A 30kW electrical power conversion system is developed for a variable speed wind turbine. In the wind energy conversion system(WECS) a synchronous generator with field current excitation converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. As the voltage and the frequency of the generator output vary according to the wind speed, a 6-bridge diode rectifier and a PWM boost chopper is utilized as an ac-dc converter maintaining the constant dc-link voltage with only single switch control. An input current control algorithm for maximum power generation during the variable speed operation is proposed without any usage of speed sensor. Grid connection type PWM inverter converts dc input power to ac output currents into the grid. The active power to the grid is controlled by q-axis current and the reactive power is controlled by d-axis current with appropriate decoupling. The phase angle of utility voltage is detected using software PLL(Phased Locked Loop) in d-q synchronous reference frame. Experimental results from the test of 30kW prototype wind turbine system show that the generator power can be controlled effectively during the variable speed operation without any speed sensor.
An active front end (AFE) is required for a three-phase induction motor (IM) fed by a voltage source inverter (VSI), because of the increasing need to derive quality current from the utility end without sacrificing the power factor (PF). This study investigates a proportional-plus-integral (PI) controller based AFE topology that uses a super-lift converter (SLC). The significance of the proposed SLC, which converts rectified AC supply to geometrically proceed ripple-free DC supply, is explained. Variations in several power quality parameters in the intended IM drive for 0% and 100% loading conditions are demonstrated. A simulation is conducted by using MATLAB/Simulink software, and a prototype is built with a field programmable gate array (FPGA) Spartan-6 processor. Simulation results are correlated with the experimental results obtained from a 0.5 HP IM drive prototype with speed feedback and a voltage/frequency (V/f) control strategy. The proposed AFE topology using SLC is suitable for three-phase IM drives, considering the supply end PF, the DC-link voltage and current, the total harmonic distortion (THD) in supply current, and the speed response of IM.
This paper describes the development of a new islanding detection method for inverter-based distributed generation systems, which uses a signal cross-correlation scheme between the injected reactive current and the power frequency deviation. The proposed method injects 1% of the reactive current to the rated current which brings about a negligible degradation of the power quality. It discriminates the islanding state, when the calculated cross-correlation index is larger than 0.5. The operational feasibility was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software and experimental research with a hardware prototype. The proposed method can detect the islanding state without degrading the power quality at the point of common connection. Further study is required to overcome the cancellation of the injected reactive current from multiple distributed generation units interconnected with the utility grid.

Multimedia applications over wireless networks have been evolving to augmented reality or virtual reality services. However, a rich data size compared to conventional multimedia services causes bandwidth bottlenecks over wireless networks, which is one of the main reasons why those applications are not used widely. To overcome this limitation, bandwidth aggregation techniques, which exploit a multi-path transmission, have been considered to maximize link utilization. Currently, most of the conventional researches have been focusing on the user end problems to improve the quality of service (QoS) through optimal load distribution. In this paper, we address the joint pricing and load distribution problem for multi-homing in heterogeneous wireless access networks (ANs), considering the interests of both the users and the service providers. Specifically, we consider profit from resource allocation and cost of power consumption expenditure for operation as an utility of each service provider. Here, users decide how much to request the resource and how to split the resource over heterogeneous wireless ANs to minimize their cost while supporting the required QoS. Then, service providers compete with each other by setting the price to maximize their utilities over user reactions. We study the behaviors of users and service providers by analyzing their hierarchical decision-making process as a multileader-, multifollower Stackelberg game. We show that both the user and service provider strategies are closed form solutions. Finally, we discuss how the proposed scheme is well converged to equilibrium points.
Conduits are commonly installed below the ground for utility conveyance around the world. Vertical load on a buried conduit is an important parameter that needs to be known to ensure its safe design and installation. Consideration of soil arching in load calculations helps achieve a more realistic and efficient design. In the past, considering the arching effect, the design charts have been presented for use by practicing engineers to calculate the vertical load on the conduit buried below the level ground. There are currently no design charts for calculating the vertical load on the conduit buried under a sloping ground. In this paper, an attempt has been made to present the derivation of a generalized analytical expression considering that the soil mass overlying the conduit has a sloping face and the arching phenomenon takes place. The developed generalized expression has been used to present some design charts considering specific values of slope geometry, soil properties and burial depths. Furthermore, analytical results for specific soil parameters have been compared with the results extracted from a commercial software PLAXIS 2D, for a developed numerical model and an independent study.

The utilization of GPUs on general-purpose computers is currently on the rise due to the increase in its programmability and performance requirements. The utility of tools like NVIDIA's CUDA have been designed to allow programmers to code algorithms by using C-like language for the execution process on the graphics processing units GPU. Unfortunately, many of the performance and correctness bugs will happen on parallel programs. The CUDA tool support for the parallel programs has not yet been actualized. The use of a dynamic analyzer to find performance and correctness bugs in CUDA programs facilitates the execution of sophisticated processes, especially in modern computing requirements. Any race conditions bug it will impact of program correctness and the share memory bank conflicts to improve the overall performance. The technique instruments the programs in a way that promotes accessibility of the memory locations accessed by different threads well as to check for any bugs in the code of a program. The instrumented source code will be used initiated directly in the device emulation code of CUDA to send report for the user about all errors. The current degree of automation helps programmers solve subtle bugs in highly complex programs or programs that cannot be analyzed manually.
Software development based on product lines has been proved a promising technology that can drastically reduce cycle time and guarantee quality by strategically reusing quality core assets that belong to an organization. However, how to measure within a product line is different from how to measure within a single software project in that we have to consider the aspects of both core assets and projects that utilize the assets. Moreover, the performance aspects of overall project lines need to be considered within a product line context. Therefore, a systematic approach to measure the performance of product lines is essential to have consistent, repeatable and effective measures within a product line. This paper presents a context-based measurements elicitation approach for product lines that reflects the performance characteristics of product lines and the diversity of their application. The approach includes both detailed procedures and work products resulting from implementation of the procedures, along with their templates. To show the utility of the approach, this paper presents the elicited measurements, especially for technical management practices among product line practices. This paper also illustrated a real application case that adopt this approach. The systematic approach enables management attributes, i.e., measurements to be identified when we construct product lines or develop software product based on the product lines. The measurements will be effective in that they are derived in consideration of the application context and interests of stakeholders.

Not only services that are provided by a single system have been various with the development of the Internet of Things and autonomous software but also new services that are not possible before are provided through collaboration between systems. The collaboration between autonomous systems is similar to the ecosystem configuration in terms of biological viewpoints. Thus, it is called the IT Ecosystem, and this concept has arisen newly in recent years. The IT Ecosystem refers to a concept that achieves a mission of each of a number of heterogeneous systems rather than a single system utilizing their own autonomy as well as achieving the objectives of the overall system simultaneously in order to meet a single common goal. In our previous study, we proposed architecture of elementary level and as well as basic several meta-models to implement the IT Ecosystem. This paper proposes comprehensive reference architecture framework to implement the IT Ecosystem by cleansing the previous study. Among them, a utility function based on cost-benefit model is proposed to solve the dynamic re-configuration problem of system components. Furthermore, a measure of using genetic algorithm is proposed as a solution to reduce the dynamic re-configuration overhead that is increased exponentially according to the expansion of the number of entities of components in the IT Ecosystem. Finally, the utilization of the proposed orchestration framework is verified quantitatively through probable case studies on IT Ecosystem for unmanned forestry management.

Recently it is being increased rapidly to install magnetic marker and RFID tag on the underground utility lines before backfilling to ensure effective it's management. However, due to changes an attitude and damages of sensors. By pressure and vibration during soil compacting, detecting rate is significantly reduced as well as it allows to use only one line of various pipes since it has an unique frequency. Also it is required too long time to reach to target point with an non-accurate navigational GPS receiver and hard to update existing data base with a manual input of new data in the field. To improve these problems, the researcher developed the field management system that apply with ball typed self-levelling marker which is free from the changes of attitude for sensors during compaction as well as has various radio frequency applicable to many kind of pipes and ensure fast positioning to target point using an incorporated system with PDA based DGPS receiver which allows loading a field GIS software and RFID detector. Further, it provides with viewing all of RFID data on the DGPS receiver screen directly and also input new data to existing data base in the field automatically.
Purpose: Recently, most hospitals are introducing the PACS system and use of the system continues to expand. But small-scaled PACS called MicroPACS has already been in use through open source programs. The aim of this study is to prove utility of operating a MicroPACS, as a substitute back-up device for conventional storage media like CDs and DVDs, in addition to the full-PACS already in use. This study contains the way of setting up a MicroPACS with open source programs and assessment of its storage capability, stability, compatibility and performance of operations such as "retrieve", "query". Materials and Methods: 1. To start with, we searched open source software to correspond with the following standards to establish MicroPACS, (1) It must be available in Windows Operating System. (2) It must be free ware. (3) It must be compatible with PET/CT scanner. (4) It must be easy to use. (5) It must not be limited of storage capacity. (6) It must have DICOM supporting. 2. (1) To evaluate availability of data storage, we compared the time spent to back up data in the open source software with the optical discs (CDs and DVD-RAMs), and we also compared the time needed to retrieve data with the system and with optical discs respectively. (2) To estimate work efficiency, we measured the time spent to find data in CDs, DVD-RAMs and MicroPACS. 7 technologists participated in this study. 3. In order to evaluate stability of the software, we examined whether there is a data loss during the system is maintained for a year. Comparison object; How many errors occurred in randomly selected data of 500 CDs. Result: 1. We chose the Conquest DICOM Server among 11 open source software used MySQL as a database management system. 2. (1) Comparison of back up and retrieval time (min) showed the result of the following: DVD-RAM (5.13,2.26)/Conquest DICOM Server (1.49,1.19) by GE DSTE (p<0.001), CD (6.12,3.61)/Conquest (0.82,2.23) by GE DLS (p<0.001), CD (5.88,3.25)/Conquest (1.05,2.06) by SIEMENS. (2) The wasted time (sec) to find some data is as follows: CD ($156{\pm}46$), DVD-RAM ($115{\pm}21$) and Conquest DICOM Server ($13{\pm}6$). 3. There was no data loss (0%) for a year and it was stored 12741 PET/CT studies in 1.81 TB memory. In case of CDs, On the other hand, 14 errors among 500 CDs (2.8%) is generated. Conclusions: We found that MicroPACS could be set up with the open source software and its performance was excellent. The system built with open source proved more efficient and more robust than back-up process using CDs or DVD-RAMs. We believe that the operation of the MicroPACS would be effective data storage device as long as its operators develop and systematize it.
