  • Pregancy is a part of women's life and is common process experienced by most women. On the other hand, a few cannot be pregnant. There are many reasons of infertility and myoma uteri of pelvic mass is a rare reason of infertility. Complication of pregnancy accompanied with myoma uteri is largely affected by the size or location of mass and the incidence by myoma uteri in pregnancy rarely happened, but mass with long pedunculus causes torsion as uterus is getting bigger. In labor myoma uteri causes the abnormal condition of fetal presentation and results in the abnormal childbirth. In case of myoma uteri, maternal mortality is low and there by medical hazards also decrease, but as the life insurance medical is the extensive prediction science, we believe that the prediction of perinatal or the condition of afterbirth by knowing the location, size of myoma uteri contributes to the medical examination. We experienced one case of Elderly primigravida with myoma uteri in Med Dept of Dae Han Kyouk life Insurance Co. Ltd. which the insured with medical examination believe herself as menopause. So we report the observations with studies.

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the distribution of major histocompatibility complex class II positive (MHC II+) (HLA-DP-like) cells in the cow uterus (cervix, corpus and cornu uteri) and to compare these cells between the estrus and diestrus phases of the estrous cycle. Twenty-nine multiparous cows were used. Tissue samples from the middle of the cervix, the corpus and the right cornu were taken immediately after slaughter at the estrus or diestrus phase. Streptavidin-biotin peroxidase complex staining was used to detect MHC II+ cells. The number of MHC II+ cells per unit area of tissue was counted using image analysis software under a light microscope. Numerous MHC II+ cells were found in the endometrium (cervix, corpus and cornu uteri) in both estrus and diestrus. MHC II+ cells were found in the surface epithelium of the cervix uteri in diestrus, but in the corpus uteri in both estrus and diestrus and in the cornu uteri in estrus. MHC II+ cells were also found freely in the lumen of the glands and between the gland epithelia of the corpus and cornu uteri in both estrus and diestrus. There were also MHC II+ cells in the connective tissue of the myometrium and perimetrium (outside the endometrium) and around the blood vessels. Endothelial cells were frequently positive for MHC II staining. More MHC II+ cells were found in the endometrium than outside the endometrium in both estrus and diestrus (p<0.001). However, there was no difference in the numbers of positive cells between estrus and diestrus either in the endometrium or outside it. These results are the first evidence for HLA-DP-like MHC II+ cells in the bovine uterus. They indicate that antigen presentation by HLA-DP-like MHC II+ cells of the uterus is not influenced by hormonal status.

  • The author studied the adrenotropic receptors of the non-pregnant uteri of the rabbit and rat, using epinephrine (alpha and beta activator), phenoxybenzamine(alpha blocking agent) and nethalide (beta blockade), and obtained the following results: 1. The spontaneous motility of isolated non-pregnant uteri from rabbits were stimulated by epinephrine, whereas that of isolated non-pregnant rat uterus was inhibited by epinephrine. 2. Both alpha and beta adrenergic receptors were present in the uterine muscle of both animals. 3. In the non-pregnant rabbit uterus, alpha receptors were predominant, whereas in the non -pregnant rat uterus, beta receptors preponderated over alpha receptors.

  • Objective: In this study, we investigated the adverse effects of dietary zearalenone (ZEA) (0.5 to 1.5 mg/kg diet) on the localization and expression of the growth hormone receptor (GHR) in the uteri of post-weaning gilts and explored alternative mechanism of the reproductive toxicity of ZEA on piglets. Methods: A total of forty healthy piglets (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Large White) aged 28 d were selected for study. Piglets were transferred to single cages after 10 days' adaptation on an obstetric table. The animals were allocated to one of four treatments: a normal basal diet supplemented with 0 (Control), 0.5 (ZEA0.5), 1.0 (ZEA1.0), or 1.5 (ZEA1.5) mg/kg purified ZEA, and fed for 35 d after the 10-d adaptation. Analyzed ZEA concentrations in the diets were 0, $0.52{\pm}0.07$, $1.04{\pm}0.03$, and $1.51{\pm}0.13mg/kg$, respectively. At the end of the feeding trial, piglets were euthanized after being fasted for 12 h. Two samples of uterine tissue from each pig were rapidly collected, one of which was stored at $-80^{\circ}C$ for analysis of the relative mRNA and protein expression of GHR, and the second was promptly fixed in Bouin's solution for immunohistochemical analysis. Results: The relative weight of the uteri and thickness of the myometrium and endometrium increased linearly (p<0.001) and quadratically (p<0.001) with an increasing level of ZEA. The results of immunohistochemical analysis indicated that GHR immunoreactive substance was mainly localizated in the cytoplasm of uterine smooth muscle, glandular epithelial, luminal epithelial, stromal, and vascular endothelial cells. In contrast, nuclear staining was rarely observed. The immunoreactive integrated optic density of GHR in the myometrium, luminal epithelium, glandular epithelium, and whole uteri of weaning gilts increased linearly (p<0.001) and quadratically (p<0.05) with an increasing level of ZEA. The mRNA and protein expression of GHR in the uteri of weaning gilts increased linearly (p<0.001) and quadratically (p<0.05) with an increasing level of ZEA. Conclusion: In conclusion, ZEA at a concentration of 0.5 mg/kg was sufficient to significantly thicken the myometrium and endometrium, and at a concentration of 1.0 mg/kg induced a high level of GHR expression to promote growth and development of the uteri. This revealed an alternative molecular mechanism whereby ZEA induces growth and development of the uteri and provides a theoretical basis for the revision of Chinese feed hygiene standards.

  • Background: Reproductive cancers are those that affect the human organs that are involved in producing offspring. An attempt is made in the present communication to assess the magnitude and pattern of reproductive cancers, including their treatment modalities, in India. The cancer incidence data related to reproductive cancers collected by five population-based urban registries, namely Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, for the years 2006-08 were utilized. The reproductive cancers among females constituted around 25% of the total and around 9% among males. Among females, the three major contributors were cervix (55.5%), ovary (26.1%) and corpus uteri (12.4%). Similarly among males, the three major contributors were prostate (77.6%), penis (11.6%) and testis (10.5%). For females, the AAR of reproductive cancers varied between 30.5 in the registry of Mumbai to 37.3 in the registry of Delhi. In males, it ranged between 6.5 in the registry of Bhopal to 14.7 in the registry of Delhi. For both males and females, the individual reproductive cancer sites showed increasing trends with age. The leading treatment provided was: radio-therapy in combination with chemo-therapy for cancers of cervix (48.3%) and vagina (43.9%); surgery in combination with chemo-therapy (54.9%) for ovarian cancer; and surgery in combination with radio-therapy for the cancers of the corpus uteri (39.8%). In males, the leading treatment provided was hormone-therapy for prostate cancer (39.6%), surgery for penile cancer (81.3%) and surgery in combination with chemo-therapy for cancer of the testis (57.6%).

  • This experiment was carried out to study the behavior of the estrus cycle in sows shortened uterine horns and to see whether the embryos could be recovered nonsurgically. The uteri of sows(n=4) were surgically shortened. It took about 3 hours to surgically remove the middle section of both uterine horns. The lengths of the shortened uterine horns were 18.7 to 29.5cm. After treatment, two sows exhibited natural estrus and the intevals from surgery to estrus were 8 days and 15 days, respectively. But the sows were not successful on synchronization and superovulation with PMSG and PGF$_2$$\alpha$. In the resurgery for confirmative examination, the sows had 6 and 7 corpus lutelin in ovaries, respectively. One sow had a small adhesion between the infundibulum and ovary, and the other sow had unilateral uterine obstruction at the sutured position and purulent materials in the uterus.

  • When goat spermatozoa were preincubated for 4-6 h and 6 h in the uteri isolated from hamster and rat, and for 6 h in the hamster uterus in situ, they developed the ability to penetrate zona-free hamster eggs in vitro. Zona-free hamster eggs were not penetrated after insemination with goat spermatozoa preincubated in the isolated hamster uterus 4 h before and 2 h after expected time of ovulation, respectively. Zona-free hamster eggs were not penetrated after insemination with goat spermatozoa preincubated for 4 h in the isolated hamster uterus, but 10 and 18% of eggs were penetrated by spermatozoa preincubated for 5 and 6 h in the isolated uterus.

  • This report aimed at investigating the differential gene expressions of the adhesion receptors between ovariectomized (OVX) and estrus stage rat uteri (OVX vs. estrus pair) using the cDNA expression away analysis. In addition, this report aimed at confirming of the differential gene expressions of the adhesion receptors between OVX and progesterone (P$_4$) injected OVX rat uteri (OVX vs. OVX+P$_4$ pair). RNA samples were extracted from the uterus and reverse-transcribed in the presence of [$\alpha$$^{32}$ P]-dATP. Membrane sets of Rat Atlas array 1.2 II (Clontech) were hybridized with CDNA probe sets. RT-PCR was employed to validate the relative gene expression patterns obtained by the cDNA array. The results were well consistent to cDNA array analysis data except the fold changes of gene expression. Among a total of 1176 cDNAs, 5 genes of adhesion receotor including embigin protein, activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule, afadin, neuroligin 2, semaphorin Z showed significant (more than 2-fold) changes in the OVX vs. late estrus pair. All of these genes were up regulated in estrus stage than OVX rat uterus. In the OVX vs. OVX+P$_4$ pair, 4 genes including osteonectin, afadin, neuroligin 2, semaphorin Z showed significant changes. All of these genes were also up regulated in OVX+P$_4$ injected rat uterus than OVX control. Three genes including afadin, neuroligin 2, semaphorin Z which were up regulated in estrus and OVX+P$_4$ injected rat uteri of both experimental pairs than OVX rat uteri. These genes seem to be under the control of P$_4$.
