Purpose: This study was to examine the relationship between health perception, prenatal care behaviors and health promoting behaviors of unmarried pregnant women. Method: The subjects were 97 unmarried pregnant women. The data was collected through personal interviews using a questionnaire. Adjusted instruments were the health perception scale developed by Ware, prenatal care behavior scale developed by Lee, and health promoting behavior scale developed by Pender. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and the Pearson correlation coefficient with SPSS program. Result: The mean score of health perception was 3.3, and Resistance-Susceptibility was the highest. The mean score of prenatal care behaviors was 2.9, while that of health promoting behaviors was 2.5. The relationship between health perception and prenatal care behaviors was significant(r=0.268, p=.008). The relationship between prenatal care behaviors and health promoting behaviors was also significant (r=0.633, p=.000). Conclusion: The higher the health perception of unmarried pregnant women, the more they are concerned about good prenatal care behaviors. Unmarried pregnant women did well on health promoting behaviors when they had are high degree of good prenatal care behaviors. Therefore, in order to promote positive health perceptions of unmarried pregnant women, it is necessary to develop and adjust various education and supporting programs.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify quality of sleep and health-promoting behaviors in rotating-shift nurses and to explore the influence of health promoting behaviors on quality of sleep. Method: Participants were 161 staff nurses working in an irregular three shift system in one of three general hospitals located in Kyungpook province. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile-IIand were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: The majority of the participants had very poor quality of sleep and performed a low level of health promoting behaviors. In terms of health promoting behaviors, nutrition and stress management significantly influenced quality of sleep of these nurses. Conclusion: Results indicate the importance of encouraging rotating-shift nurses to enhance their health promoting behaviors in order to improve quality of sleep.
The purpose of this study was to investigate purchasing behaviors of summer clothes using cooling textiles and clothing design preference in summer season. The subjects were 623 married women aged from 30s to 60s. The research method was a survey and the measuring instruments consisted of purchasing behaviors of summer clothes using cooling textiles, clothing design preference in summer season, and subjects' demographics attributions. The data were analyzed by frequency analysis, multiple response analysis, cross tabs analysis, and $x^2$ test, using SPSS statistical program. The results were as follows. First, important clothing selection criteria were design, price, and textiles. The main items using cooling textiles that female consumers purchased were T-shirts, pants, and outdoor & sportswear. Main information sources of summer clothes using cooling textiles were internet and store display, and purchasing places were fashion outlet, internet, brand store, and department store. Second, female consumers most preferred comfortable and casual style. They mainly preferred white and blue color, pastel and pale tone, plain pattern, and cotton and functional materials in summer season. Third, there were many important differences among 4 age groups on purchasing behaviors of summer clothes using cooling textiles and design preference in summer season.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between perceived health status and health-promoting behaviors in female college students. Method: Data were collected from December 10 to 31. 2007. In 160 female college students, perceived health status was measured using the Medical Outcomes Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), and health-promoting behaviors using the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP). Results: The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) The mean scores of the level of health promoting behaviors, physical health status, and mental health status were 2.44 (SD=0.39), 51.9 (SD=8.03), and 42.56 (SD=10.77), respectively. 2) Health-promoting behaviors were correlate with physical health status (r=-.361) and mental health status (r=.498). 3) Health-promoting behaviors were significantly associated with allowance and mental health in capability, which explained 28.9% of variance in health-promoting behaviors. Conclusion: The results suggest that it is necessary to strengthen female college students' practice of exercise and responsibility for health in order to improve their health promotion behaviors. Also, the results of this study give useful information for designing interventions and program development for female college students' appropriate health promoting life.
Relations between mother-infant interactive behaviors and parenting-related variables were analyzed in a sample of 72 infants (35 boys and 37 girls, average age=31 mo.) and their mothers in Ulsan, Korea. Parents' views on children, parenting stress, fathers' participation in parenting and social support were measured using questionnaires and mother-infant interactive behaviors were observed using the 3-bags test. Among the parenting-related variables, parents' views on children were related significantly with mothers' emotional expressions & infant's participation with mothers. Social support was correlated with mother's behaviors, including positive rewards and emotional expressions. Mother-infant interactive behaviors were closely correlated with one another: Mothers' positive behaviors such as overall reactivity and cognitive stimulation were correlated positively with infants' positive behaviors, including sustained attention and positive affect. Future studies will provide us with greater insights into the mechanisms underlying the effects of these parenting-related variables on infant behavior and development.
Social commerce is a new type of e-commence that is based on social networking technologies and aggressive marketing strategies, such as one-deal-a-day. However, although social commerce has become very popular, little is known of customers' substantive purchasing behaviors when using social commerce sites. These behaviors, namely visiting and purchasing behaviors, are the focus of this study. Hence, this study aims to provide comprehensive understanding of the visiting and purchasing behaviors of customers in relation to social commerce sites. A research model based on the utilitarian and hedonic values of shopping, social influence, and convenience, which represent social commerce features, was developed and empirically analyzed using data from social commerce site users. The results revealed that purchasing behaviors of consumers when they use social commerce sites are affected directly by the utilitarian value (perceived usefulness) of the site as well as their purchase intention. Purchase intention is affected by perceived usefulness, subjective norm, and visiting behaviors. The visiting behaviors of consumers in relation to social commerce sites are also affected directly by the hedonic value (playfulness) of the site as well as their intention to visit the site. The findings of this study have implications for practitioners with regard to understanding and promoting the use of social commerce sites.
We investigated the effects of maternal parenting behavior and social supports on children's problem behaviors. The participants are 148 elementary school children and their teachers from one elementary school in Seoul. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, t-test, and multiple regression. The major findings are summarized as follows: (1) there were differences in maternal parenting behavior(warmth), teacher support, and internal problem behaviors according to children's gender; (2) mothers's parenting behavior(warmth) and teachers' support explained children's overt problem behaviors; and (3) mothers' parenting behaviors(supervision) and friends' support explained children's internal problem behaviors. In conclusion, there were differences between the subscale of maternal parenting behavior and social supports influencing overt problem behaviors and internal problem behaviors.
This study examined the role of maternal attribution in parenting behaviors of mothers who have a child with developmental disabilities. Using an attributional model, it assessed whether maternal attributions about the child's knowledge, capacity, expectation, and responsibility for behavior problems have effects on maternal behaviors of affect, authoritarian control, and overprotect. The sample consisted of 161 mothers of elementary children with developmental disabilities. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that maternal attribution about the child's capacity for misbehavior had positive influence on maternal affect and negative influence on authoritarian control behaviors, and that maternal attribution of responsibility for misbehavior positively influenced maternal authoritarian control and overprotect behaviors. Also, maternal attribution about the child's knowledge for misbehavior had negative influence on maternal overprotect behaviors. In addition, such background factors as number of disability, maternal education, and job of mother were significant predictors for maternal attribution, while maternal self-esteem was a strong significant predictor for mothering behaviors. The findings suggest the importance of maternal attributions in parenting.
Purpose : This study was done for reviewing problems in surveys on youth health risk behaviors in Korea and for looking for strategies to improve surveys of youth health risk behaviors through literature review. Method : This study reviewed foreign and domestic literatures. Results : The main problems were as follows; 1) lack of health risk behavior surveys focused on health behaviors, 2) differences in health risk behaviors surveyed, 3) inconsistency in the measurement on health risk behaviors, 4) lack of representativeness of the sample, using convenient sampling. Conclusions: Several suggestions were made for the future research, including establishment of systems for youth health risk behavior survey nationwide, introduction of internet survey, maintenance of consistency in health risk behaviors surveyed, investigation of relating factors relevant to health risk behaviors, and uses of survey results.
Using data from an ongoing study of 170 children aged 4-6 years in low-income families, this study tests how mothers' parenting behaviors and teacher-child relationship influences the adjustment to child-care centers of young children. The mothers' parenting behaviors were measured by the mothers of surveyed children, while the teacher-child relationship and children's adjustment were rated by teachers. Measurements were recorded from using the Iowa Parent Behavior Inventory(Crase et al. 1987), Student-Teacher Relationship Scale(Pianta et al. 1995) and the Adjustment to Child-care Centers Scale(Lee 2004). The collected data was analyzed by hierarchical regression using the SPSS Program. Results indicate that mothers' parenting behaviors in the low-income families controlled characteristics of children and are positively associated with one area of early school adjustment, learning readiness. In other words, mothers who are more involved and demonstrate supportive parenting, have children with better learning readiness. The teacher-child relationship is strongly related to all areas of children's adjustment. The interaction effect of parenting behaviors and the teacher-child relationship on children's learning readiness is observed. These results highlight the importance of the teacher-child closeness as well as the quality of parenting behaviors during the preschool period for the low-income family in improving early school adjustment.
