New methods for both color palette design and dithering based on human visual system (HVS) characteristics are proposed. Color quantization for palette design uses the relative visual sensitivity and spatial masking effect of HVS. The dithering operation for printing uses nonlinear quantization, which considers the overlapping phenomena among neighbor printing dots, and then a modified dot-diffusion algorithm is followed to compensate the degradation produced in the quantization process. The proposed techniques can produce high quality image in the low-bit color devices.

In this paper, An expert system for electric furnace with time delay is proposed. The expert system uses Fuzzy control theory. The conventional controller uses Auto-Tuning control theory. From experiment, we can obtain that the response of expert system is superior to the response of the conventional controller. In this experiment, the expert controller is implemented with the IBM PC. The 8751 One chip processor controling the electric furnace is used.

This paper describes the design of EFbus(ETRI Fieldbus), EFbus was designed from the interim results of international Fieldbus standardization in IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and proposals of many companies. The design was performed and described on the basis of three layered architecture. Application layer S/W runs on IBM PC and provides services which is similar ED MMS in MAP to user application Data linklayer runs on Intel's iDCX96 real time executive and uses centralized media accesscontrol method. Physical layer uses Manchester encoding & decoding, twisted pair fines and RS485 electrical standard.

In this paper, we introduce a new DCT based hierarchical finite state vector quantization. Our proposed scheme uses difference of DCT coefficients to find a representative vector, and classifies image blocks into different hierarchical levels depending on their structural characteristics, and uses different coding rates and different number os state codebooks at each hierarchical levels. As a result, we obtained reconstructed images having satisfiable quality objectively.

In this paper, a good fault location algorithm will be presented, which uses novel signal processing techniques and takes a new paradigm to overcome some drawbacks of the conventional methods. The main feature of the method is that it uses the high frequency components in fault signal and considers the influence of the source network by using a traveling wave concept.

Dynamic response of an elastic pendulum system under random excitations was studied by using the Lagrangian equations of motion which uses the kinetic and potential energy of a target system. The responses of random excitations were calculated by using Monte Carl simulation which uses the series of random numbers. The procedure of Monte Carlo simulation is generation of random numbers, system model, system output, and statistical management of output. When the levels of random excitations were changed, the expected responses of the pendulum system showed various responses.

Generally estimation of driving direction uses the way which uses lane detection and vanishing point in autonomous-driving system. Especially we use Sub-window for decreasing Process time when we detect lane, but fixed sub-window can not detect lane because of some factors in road image. So we suggest algorithm using one-dimension line scan method to detect an exact position of lane.

Recntly many devics print electronic images in a variety of ways. But the reproduced color, gamut mappung method and expanded nonlinear quantization are proposed. The color gamut mapping uses saturation mapping of HSI color space. Dithering operation for printing uses expanded nonlinear quantization which considers overlapping phenomena of neighboring printing dots. So the printed image is similar to the image of monitor and can produce high quality image in the low bit color devices.

Energy saving electric fan heater that uses driving part as heating part is different from general fan heater. As it uses energy that drives rotor and generate heat at the same coil. it is simpler and cheaper than fan heater. In this study, shaded-pole motor that is low cost and simple in spite of low efficiency was used for th fan heater.

The daily irrigation water intakes from five reservoirs were measured and the water management characteristics analyzed . During the irrigation seasons in 1998 , the total water supply rates ranged from 534 to 864 mm, and thedelivery losses varied from5 to 17 pervent. Major factors affecting the water supply rates were rice transplanting and water management , and rainfall distributions during the growing seasons. The consumptive uses and effective rainfall from each researvoir were compared satisfactorily with the simulated results from the Daily Irrigation Reservoir Operation Model , DIROM.
