  • The purpose of this study was to develop a methodology of user participation evaluation of a scholarly information site in the field of science and technology and to enhance the site by applying a set of testing protocols. Experiments were conducted in a laboratory setting. Data from multiple sources, including eyetracking, search logs and post surveys, were collected and analyzed quantitatively. Based on the results of eyetracking, the contents and images were reorganized after removing unessential elements in the site. The resulting data from the search logs showed that the users were able to finish the tasks more quickly with the revised user interface. The results of the data analysis of post surveys indicated an overall improvement in the revised website compared to the original one.

  • This study presents the analysis results through the experiments how to increase the user participation via the user created game contents(UCGC) which user oneself can produce in a game. The experiment was carried out for whether the three elements of self-express desire, providing game money, and competitiveness can increase active participation in UCGC by using a mobile game called 'Color Pop'. Through this, we summarized the comparative results of the importance and influence for the three elements. It is expected that it will be used to improve understanding of UCGC users and plan or produce UCGC.

  • This study aims to investigate the gamification effect of the badge awards, the most popular gamification process, on users participation behavior. This study also attempts to investigate the effect of tailored gamification, which designs the system of gamification differently based on users' characteristics, focusing on the level of online user information disclosure. For this, we collect and analyze data on 557 users and 1,048,020 answers from StackOverflow, an online Q&A community for developers. The results show that providing a badge is effective for increasing the amount of user participation, whereas providing a goal through the badge is partially effective for increasing the quality of participation. However, the moderating effect of whether users disclose their SNS information on the relationship between badge gaining and participation decrease is not statistically significant. For platform operators, our findings emphasize the importance of gamification design to enhance user engagement effectively.

  • To be a good architecture, resident' needs should be defined as possible as definitely. A Multi-family housing is not easy to define of resident' needs, because the user is ambiguous and the needs is multi aspects. Byker housing project have a good approach to define ambiguous and many aspects of residence' need. In this view points, Byker redvelopment project show the process of resident' participation as a new customers, and design process architect with people, in spite of the early 1970s' project in terms of the user participations. This approach of residence participation is a good lesson how to communicate with recidence, how to identify the need, and its design is satisfied in the residence. And its project are discussed with residence how to manage of rehabilitation.

  • It is very difficult, but important, to induce and maintain voluntary user engagement in content. For example, many Internet contents provide financial rewards for the user's participation and maintenance. However, there are limitations to methods such as stimulating only external motivations, such as monetary rewards, and sophisticated design and management are needed to obtain sustained and voluntary user participation in content. For this purpose, we propose a Gamified CMS that extends the existing Content Management System (CMS) by referring to the example of the Gamified Learning Management System. This will ultimately increase the participation and commitment of users in content.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out implications which can be useful for enhancement of user participation in Korean disability services from UK community care experience. In Korea, until recently dominant issue on social services always has been the shortage of service provision. But during the recent 20 years, we experienced great expansion in quantity, as though it may be not yet enough. And more recently, disabled people and organizations began to actively argue for appropriate service in quantity and quality. Now, Korean disability policy and practice are confronted to the difficult and embarrassing task how to meet the need of disabled people with limited resources, and how to response to the disabled people's voice arguing on independence and choice. This task would require somewhat deliberate reform which might be quite different from previous one. UK's experience of implementation and development of community care system would give meaningful implications to Korean disability service policy and practice related to user participation. The results of the review on user participation issues in the UK community care give several implications to Korean disability services. Above all, consumerist approach which is the key strategy adopted by UK community care change is not appropriate for Korean disability service because of largely different service environment. The second implication is about decentralization. To enable decentralization of social service leads to enhancement of user involvement avoiding a lowering of service quality, prerequisite conditions should be secured. A third is securing and making declaration on the disabled person's right to assessment and constructing public service system operated by case management process. Fourth, formalized complaints procedure should be established. Fifth, professional education which enables professionals to encourage participation of disabled people should be developed, and the role of disability movement leading disabled users to participate on their services also should be highlighted.

  • China has the largest number of the user of web 2.0 such as messengers and blogs, as of 2008 year. Chinese Internet digital market will grow from $85 billion in 2007 to $264 billion in 2015. The importance of Chinese Internet business is increasing, because of its size and growth potential. This research is focused on following two questions. First, what are the major characteristics of social networking services in China? In order to find out the answer about this question, the case study on Tencent QQ and Sina Poco, the most representative social networking services company in China, was done. And the reason of the use of social networking services, their contents, and the attitude toward the paid service were identified. Second, what are the major factors influencing the use of social networking services in China. User participation, network effect, usefulness, and system quality were inferred as the factors influencing the use. These factors were based on motivation theory, technology acceptance model, and the related research papers. This research model was proved by data analysis using Partial Least Square. As results, the use of social networking services was influenced by usefulness, network effect, user participation, and system quality. But social influence was not significant of the use of social networking services.

Interactivity of fashion projects in Showstudio is considered by main factors such as two-way communication, participation, user control, and responsiveness. Two-way communication appears as transactional communication in the creation process and feedbacks from contents of users. The characteristic of participation appears as participation in the creation process and the practical use of contents. User control appears as control of contents, user interface and streaming media systems. The characteristic of responsiveness appears as real time and synesthesia responsiveness between the user and contents. Showstudio show free communication through digital information transmit system and also indicate the opportunity of innovative interactions among users, media, and contents.
