This paper represents a portable robot for use in the welding process of the double hulls in shipbuilding yards. It has 5 degrees of freedom and 3kg of payload. Its body weight is 17.3 [kg] so that human workers can carry it by hand to the work place. Its body is mainly made of magnesium and aluminum alloys. Since the robot is placed about 25m apart from its controller, EtherCAT is adopted for reliable connection between the robot and controller through a single light cable. RTX real-time kernel and KPA EtherCAT master are used to control the robot on a Windows XP environment. The performance of the developed robot is satisfactory to the requirement in welding tasks of U-type cells in shipbuilding yards.
A noble technique has been developed for fabricating in situ formed $TiC_p/Al$ composites. In this process, fairly stable TiC particles were in situ synthesized in liquid aluminum by the interfacial reaction between an Al-Ti melt and SiC, which is a comparatively unstable carbide from the view-point of thermodynamics. It is possible in the present process to generate TiC particles of nearly 1 ${\mu}m$ in diameter, even utilizing SiC of 14 ${\mu}m$ as raw material. However, the dispersion behavior of TiC particles in the matrix depends on the size of the raw material SiC. Decomposing finer SiC makes the dispersion of TiC particles more uniform and the mechanical properties of composites are improved accordingly. The structure of in situ composites and their mechanical properties are affected by the fabrication temperature and the stirring time. It has been found that the most suitable condition for fabrication should be applied depending on the size of the raw material, even if the same kinds of carbide are used. Furthermore, although Al-Ti-Si system intermetallic compounds are detected in a $TiC_p/Al-Si$ composite which is fabricated by conventional melt-stirrng method, these compounds can not be observed in a $TiC_p/Al-Si$ composite made by this in situ production method. Hence the mechanical properties of the in situ $TiC_p/Al-Si$ composite are superior to those of the conventional $TiC_p/Al-Si$ composites.
The integration of PV modules into building facades or roof could raise their temperature that results in the reduction of PV system's electrical power generation. Hot air can be extracted from the space between PV modules and building envelope, and used for heating in buildings. PV/thermal collectors, or more generally known as PVT collectors, are devices that operate simultaneously to convert solar energy from the sun into two other useful energies, namely, electricity and heat. This paper compares the experimental performance of BIPVT((Building-Integrated Photovoltaic Thermal) collectors that applied on building roof and facade. There are four different cases: a roof-integrated PVT type and a facade-integrated PVT type, the base models with an air gap between the PV module and the surface, and the improved models for each types with aluminum fins attached to the PV modules. The accumulated thermal energy of the roof-integrated type was 15.8% higher than the facade-integrated regardless of fin attachment. The accumulated electrical energy of the roof-integrated type was 7.6% higher, compared to that of the facade-integrated. The efficiency differences among the collectors may be due to the fact that the pins absorbed heat from the PV module and emitted it to air layer.
Since vertical flame spread speed on exterior materials is much faster than horizontal fire, analysis of its fire characteristic is required. For the study of vertical fire pattern created by penetrating windows or openings from the exterior wall of buildings, the research is based on the fire simulation for an aluminum-complex-panel with which is commonly used as exterior materials and consists of polyethylene core material. As a result, the flame reaches the 2nd floor after 135 seconds in the early stage of fire, the 10the floor after 470 seconds and the 30th floor, the highest floor, after 711 seconds. The result shows that fire spread abruptly expands on upper floor due to stack effect of a turbulent flow or exterior materials. In consequence, we can confirm a serious problem that a conflagration of a building through an opening that is equipped with the exterior-materials spreads into interior of building at that same time.

Objectives: Alumina nanoparticles ($Al_2O_3$, Al-NPs) are used for various purposes, including as coating agents and paint additives. Their potential toxicity has raised concern for human health. This study focuses on exploring the toxic effects on the brain and kidneys caused by Al-NPs exposure in rats. Methods: The animals were orally administered Al-NPs at 10, 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight for 28 days following OECD TG 407. To determine the targeted toxicity of Al-NPs, histopathological examination and gene expression analysis were conducted on the rats. Results: The Al-NPs treatment induced kidney tubular dilatation. In the rat cerebrums, the expression levels of 126 genes experienced two-fold or greater increases in response to Al-NPs, including other genes encoding proteins involved in cell differentiation, transcription and signal transduction. In the rat kidneys, the expression levels of 152 genes also showed two-fold or greater increases in response to Al-NPs, including other genes encoding proteins involved in apoptosis, transcription and signal transduction. Conclusion: These results suggest that exposure to Al-NPs influences cellular signal pathways of kidney and cerebrum, and it can be a toxic indicators of nanometrials.

For high performance thin film solar cells, texturing surface, enhancing the optical absorptionpath, is pretty important. Textured ZnO:Al transparent oxide layer of high haze is commonly used in Si thin film solar cells. In this paper, novel deposition method for aluminum doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al) on glass substrates is presented to improve the haze property. The broccoli structure of ZnO:Al layer was formed on chemically etched glass substrates, which showed high haze value on a wide wavelength range. The etching condition of the glass substrates can change not only the haze values of the ZnO:Al of in-situ growth but alsothe electrical and optical properties of the deposited ZnO:Al films. The etching mechanism of the glass substrate affecting on the surface morphology of the glass will be discussed, which resulted in variation of texture of ZnO:Al layer. The optical properties of substrate morphology were also analyzed with EDS and FTIR results. As a result, the high haze value of 85.4% was obtained in the wavelength range of 300 nm to 1100 nm. Furthermore, low sheet resistance of about 5~18 ohm/sq was achieved for different surface morphologies of the ZnO:Al films.

The shearing process for the sheet metal is normally used in the precision elements such as a frame of TFT-LCD or lead frame of If chips. In these precision elements, the burr formation prevents the system assembly and needs the additional burr removing process. In this paper, we developed the small size NC punching system which has an aligning kinematics between the rectangular shaped punch and die. The punch is driven by an ai cylinder and the sheet metal is moving on the X-Y table system which is driven by two stewing motors. The microprocessor control the whole system and communicate with the monitoring PC by RS232C serial communication protocol. The graphic user interface program in PC monitors nil control the punching system. The cross shaped joint hinge supports the punching die and positioned by two differential screws, whose are installed in perpendicular directions. The aligning between the punch and die is performed using the sheets of half thickness(0.1mm Brass) of the real process for the frame of the TFT-LCD. Using half thickness Brass, the burr formation is magnified and we can decide the aligning direction more easily then using the real thickness(0.2mm) Aluminum. In this paper, the aligning results are measured manually using the SEM photographs and we hope to make the automated aligning procedures using some kinds of image processing techniques.
Background : Skin injuries, such as lacerations due to trauma, are relatively common, and patients are very concerned about the resulting scars. Recently, the use of ablative and non-ablative lasers based on the fractional approach has been used to treat scars. In this study, the authors demonstrated the efficacy and safety of ablative fractional resurfacing (AFR) for traumatic scars using a 2,940-nm erbium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser for traumatic scars after primary repair during the early posttraumatic period. Methods : Twelve patients with fifteen scars were enrolled. All had a history of facial laceration and primary repair by suturing on the day of trauma. Laser therapy was initiated at least 4 weeks after the primary repair. Each patient was treated four times at 1-month intervals with a fractional ablative 2,940-nm Er:YAG laser using the same parameters. Posttreatment evaluations were performed 1 month after the fourth treatment session. Results : All 12 patients completed the study. After ablative fractional laser treatment, all treated portions of the scars showed improvements, as demonstrated by the Vancouver Scar Scale and the overall cosmetic scale as evaluated by 10 independent physicians, 10 independent non-physicians, and the patients themselves. Conclusions : This study shows that ablative fractional Er:YAG laser treatment of scars reduces scars fairly according to both objective results and patient satisfaction rates. The authors suggest that early scar treatment using AFR can be one adjuvant scar management method for improving the quality of life of patients with traumatic scars.
Two kinds of humidity sensor are made, one by anodizing pure aluminum and the other by evaporation Sn02 on the anodized pure alumia film, and their electrical characteristics are investigated in various humidity atmosphere. The change of surface resistance with humidity of $AI_2O_3/AI$ and $SnO_2-AI_2O_3/Al$ sensors are found to be $1.40 \times 10^{-2}\Omega$/RH and $1.56 \times 10^{-2}\Omega$/RH, respectively. The hysteresis phenomena associated with the irreversibility of surface resistance-humidity is less in $SnO_2-AI_2O_3/Al$ sensor than in $AI_2O_3/AI$. It is concluded that $SnO_2-AI_2O_3/Al$ film can be used as humidity sensor in room temperature region because temperature dependence of surface resistance of the film is found to be as $0.56 \times 10^{-2} \Omega /^{\circ}C$ in O~ $20^{\circ}C$ range, where as $2.50 \times 10^{-2} \Omega /^{\circ}C$ in 40-$50^{\circ}C$.

TFT-LCD consists of LCD panel on the top, circuit unit on the side and BLU on the bottom. The recent development issues of BLU-dependent TFT-LCD have been power consumption minimization, slimmerization and size maximization. As a result of this trend, LED is adopted as BLU instead of CCFL to increase brightness and to reduce thickness. In liquid crystal displays, the light efficiency is below 10% due to the loss of light in the path from a light source to an LCD panel and presence of absorptive polarizer. This low efficiency results in low brightness and high power consumption. One way to circumvent this situation is to use a reflective polarizer between backlight units and LCD panels. Since a nano-wire grid polarizer has been known as a reflective polarizer, an idea was proposed that it can be used for the enhancement of the brightness of LCD. The use of reflective polarizing film is increasing as edge type LED TV and 3D TV markets are growing. This study has been carried out to fabrication of the nano-wire grid polarizer(NWGP) and investigated the brightness enhancement of LCD through polarization recycling by placing a NWGP between an c and a backlight unit. NWGPs with a pitch of 200nm were fabricated using laser interference lithography and aluminum sputtering and wet etching. And The NWGP fabrication process was using by the UV imprinting and was applied to plastic PET film. In this case, the brightness of an LCD with NWGPs was 1.21 times higher than that without NWGPs due to polarization recycling.
