  • Some insulating materials are tested and analyzed with variables to obtain the reliable pressboard which is located to core and coil of high voltage transformer. The high voltage transformer is used in electrical power system and operating reliability. Optimization possibility of pressboard shape including electrical insulation performance could be achieved by analysis simulation. Using insulating pressboard, which is made by mold applied eddy current loss, it could be measured the influences of moisture content for electrical properties. As a result, it is to contribute to improve the performance and ensure the reliability of the pressboard by investigating electrical strength according to the variation oil temperature. In addition pressboard thickness is important design factor to ensure electrical strength in high voltage transformer.

  • Since partial discharges in power transformers weaken their insulation performance the detection of partial discharge is very important for prevention of fatal incidents. This study describes use of electromagnetic coupler for measurement of partial discharge of transformers. Spiral antennas of which bandwidth is 0.5GHz to 3GHz were used as coupler and setup in chamber for partial discharge tests. Test results showed that outputamplitudes are increased with PD increase and frequencies of signal measured by these antennas are mostly distributed below about 800MHz.

  • In general, for the condition monitoring of a power transformer using the UHF PD measuring technique, detection of any partial discharge, identifying the defect in the transformer and locating the insulation defect are necessary. In this paper one of the most frequent detects which can result in turn to turn fault in power transformer was examined for identifying the defect. In order to model the defect, as a discharge source, a partial discharge cell was used for experimental activity. Magnitude of electromagnetic wave signals and corresponding amount of apparent discharge were measured simultaneously against phase of applied voltage to the discharge cell. Frequency range and phase resolved partial discharge signals were measured and analyzed. The results will be contributed to build the defect database of power transformer and to decrease the occurrence of transformer faults.

  • South Korea's OF cable is reaching its expected design life of 30 years, and as a result, the risk of failure is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to diagnose the long-term operating OF cables through accurate diagnosis at the right time to prevent the failure. Currently, the KEPCO periodically conducts DGA. However, the gas found in DGA is caused by oil deterioration as well as insulation paper. Therefore, the analysis of the degree of polymerization and furan compounds which is an evaluation of insulation paper considered to be the life of OF cables is required. In addition, the results of the evaluation of deterioration of insulation paper need to be checked for correlation with the results of DGA. In this study, DGA carried out through GC, the degree of polymerization was analyzed using an automatic viscometer, and HPLC was used to detect the furan compounds. In addition, the obtained results were applied to the SVM technique, which was recently introduced to determine abnormalities in OF cable. And the results which were accurate and reliable were obtained.

  • The effect of reactive diluents on the ac electrical treeing in epoxy/nanosilicate systems was studied, in a needle-plate electrode geometry. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) type epoxy was used as a base resin, and layered silicate was used as a nano-sized filler. Polyglycol (PG) or 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDGE) was introduced as a reactive diluent to the DGEBA/nanosilicate system, in order to decrease the viscosity of the nanocomposite system. PG acted as a flexibilizer, and BDGE acted as a chain extender, after the curing reaction. To measure the treeing propagation rate, a constant alternating current (ac) of 10 kV/4.2 mm (60 Hz) was applied to the specimen, in a needle-plate electrode arrangement, at $30^{\circ}C$ of insulating oil bath. When 10 kV/4.2 mm (60 Hz) was applied, the treeing propagate rate in the DGEBA system was $1.10{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min, and that in the DGEBA/PG system was $1.05{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min. As 1.5 wt% of nanosilicate was added to the DGEGA/PG system, the propagation rate was $0.33{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min. This meant that the nano-sized layered silicates would act as good barriers to treeing propagation. The effect of chlorine content was also studied, and it was found that chlorine had a bad effect on the electrical insulation property of the epoxy system.

  • Relatively being economical in installation and easy in operation, hot-air heating system has been generally used in greenhouse for heating system regardless of high cost in maintenance and uneven distribution of air temperature. Therefore to overcome the disadvantages in maintenance and in distribution of air temperature and to improve efficiency of heating system, this experimental study is performed. This experimental study aims to improve the character of uneven temperature distribution in vertical direction and to reduce energy consumption for heating in a greenhouse. The experiment had been performed to investigate change of thermal environment and effects on reducing energy consumption for heating in greenhouse by additional surface insulation and reduction of indoor-air volume that come by installing transparent vinyl membranes with different height in each house. The results show that there is a wide difference in oil-energy consumption between houses according to condition of surface insulation and change of indoor-air volume. Furthermore, the results show that the efficiency of dual surface is higher than that of change of indoor-air volume in terms of energy saving.

  • Structural pipe-in-pipe cross-sections have significant potential for application in offshore oil and gas production systems because of their property that combines insulation performance with structural strength in an integrated way. Such cross-sections comprise inner and outer thin walled pipes with the annulus between them fully filled by a selectable thick filler material to impart an appropriate combination of properties. Structural pipe-in-pipe cross-sections can exhibit several different collapse mechanisms and the basis of the preferential occurrence of one over others is of interest. This paper presents an elastic analyses of a structural pipe-in-pipe cross-section when subjected to external hydrostatic pressure. It formulates and solves the static and elastic buckling problem using the variational principle of minimum potential energy. The paper also investigates a simplified formulation of the problem where the outer pipe and its contact with the filler material is considered as a 'pipe on an elastic foundation'. Results are presented to show the variation of elastic buckling pressure with the relative elastic modulus of the filler and pipe materials, the filler thickness and the thicknesses of the inner and outer pipes. The range of applicability of the simplified 'pipe on an elastic foundation' analysis is also presented. A brief review of the types of materials that could be used as the filler is combined with the results of the analysis to draw conclusions about elastic buckling behaviour of structural pipe-in-pipe cross-sections.
