  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between shopping styles, promotion usage behaviors, and consequential switching behaviors. Specifically, it examined: 1) the effects of shopping styles on promotion usage and switching behaviors; and 2) the effects of promotion usage on switching behaviors. A total of 378 responses collected from a questionnaire survey were analyzed. Multiple regression analyses showed that loyalty, fashion prone, brand prone, brand prone, value prone, and hedonic shopping prone styles among the 7 shopping styles affected promotion usage behaviors, and brand prone, hedonic shopping prone, and price prone styles affected switching behaviors. Also, sales and sweepstakes among the 6 promotion usage behaviors affected switching behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the college students'frequent usage groups of Western style restaurant in Ansan city. 200 samples among subjects were utilized for the analysis, and 150 samples were reserved far validating the discriminant function. Crosstabs, reliability analysis, stepwise discriminant analysis, and anova analysis were used for this study. The findings from this study were as follows. First, the result suggested that the four variables were important in discriminating the frequent usage group. Second, the result suggested that each discriminating variable between frequent usage groups was different significantly. Third, the result suggested that each usage situation between frequent usage groups was different significantly. Finally the study indicated the implications that could be provided some insight into the types of marketing strategies that can be successfully used by operators who manage Western style restaurants.

  • This study presents a logging method to trace the usage patterns of existing smartphone apps. The actual smartphone app itself, not a specially developed similar app with usage logging, would be used best for the experiment of observing the usage patterns. For this purpose, we used a method of injecting logging codes into existing smartphone app. Using this method, we conducted an experiment to trace usage patterns of a commercial IPTV app, and found that the method is very useful for acquiring detail usage log without influencing participants.

  • This paper confirms the risk of using smartphone through the analysis of collected usage pattern and proposes the smartphone intervention system in risk situations. In order to check the risk of smartphone usage, we made information collecting application and collected smartphone usage pattern from 11 experiment participants for two months. By analyzing smartphone usage pattern, we confirmed that about 12% of smartphone usage is being used in driving, walking, and on the street. In addition, we analyzed the response rate of smartphone notification in risk situations and confirmed that user responds the smartphone notifications in real-time even in risk situations. Therefore, it is required to present a system that intervenes the use of smartphone in order to protect smartphone users in risk situations. In this paper, we classify risk situations of using smartphone. Also, the proposed smartphone intervention system is designed to periodically detect risk situations. In risk situations, smartphone function can be restricted according to user setting of smartphone. And smartphone can be used normally when safe situation is restored.

  • Purpose: To find out the appropriate probability distribution of credit card usage behavior by considering the relationship among income, expenditure and credit card usage amount. Such relationship is enabled by Korea's especially high penetration of credit card. Method: Goodness-of-fit test and effect size statistic W were used to identify the distribution of income and credit card usage amount. A simulation model is introduced to generate the credit card transactions on individual user level. Result: The three data sets for testing had either passed the chi-square test or showed low W values, meaning they follow the exponential distribution. And the exponential distribution turned out to fit the data sets well. The r values were very high. Conclusion: The credit card usage behavior, denoted as the counts of users by usage amount band, follows the exponential distribution. This distribution is easy to manipulate, has a variety of applications and generates important business implications.

  • This study examines whether English users at a U.S. university apply avoidance strategy in using English articles. All participants had learned English for at least 10 years and had used English for at least 15 years at the time of the data collection, so they made an ideal sample to examine the differences between native speakers of English and non-native speakers of English, in terms of avoidance strategy usage of English articles. To examine whether non-native speakers avoid using a certain feature when unsure of the correct usage, the mean differences of each article usage between NS and NNS groups were calculated and compared. On the basis of results showing that there are no statistically significant differences in terms of article usage between the groups, it is concluded that the highly advanced level participants did not use avoidance strategy in English articles, and that the type of English article and the task type did not affect learners' avoidance strategy usage. This research is expected to provide teachers and researchers with information about highly advanced level L2 language speakers' usage patterns with regards to avoidance strategy.

  • Recently, predicting personality with the help of smartphone usage is become very interesting and attention grabbing topic in the field of research. At present there are some approaches towards detecting a user's personality which uses the smartphones usage data, such as call detail records (CDRs), the usage of short message services (SMSs) and the usage of social networking services application. In this paper, we focus on the predicting user attitude based on MBTI theory by using their smartphone usage data. We used Naïve Bayes and SVM classifier for classifying user personalities by extracting some features from smartphone usage data. From analysis it is observed that, SVM classifier works well as compared to Naïve Bayes.

  • Initially, the word 'usage' in the rule of Korean orthography was used to indicate the whole grammatical knowledge to separate between stems and inflectional affixes and nominals and case markers. Nowadays the word 'usage' in the rule of Korean orthograph is understood to indicate both 'usage' as the principles of the orthographic rule and 'grammar.' Even though 'usage' and 'grammar' can be understood as two different words, the discrepancy between them is not clear. In fact, if examining the rule of Korean orthography, it is not difficult to find that the principles of the orthography is written based on the grammar rules. Thus, the original principle is damaged because the rule of Korean orthography depends on the grammar rules too much. In addition, the rule of Korean orthography forces to change the grammar rules when describing them. Incorrect description of the grammar rules often causes the spelling mistakes. Therefore, it is necessary to divide two areas such as 'usage' and 'grammar' when dealing with 'the orthographic rules' and describing them.
