물리적 사용자 인터페이스 측면에서 김치냉장고의 사용자 만족도 조사 (Survey of Customer Satisfaction of Kimchi Refrigerators with Focus on Physical User Interfaces)

  • Kimchi refrigerator is a specific refrigerator for Kimchi, Korean traditional fermented food. It has been fast popularized since it was developed about ten years ago. In this study, a survey was conducted with 103 female voluntary respondents to understand the customer satisfaction of the Kimchi refrigerator in the aspect of physical use. The respondents showed a high satisfaction for the use of refrigerators. It was, however, shown that they felt highly uncomfortable in using the refrigerator. In particular, the high discomfort was related to the fact that the customer should bend her torso very much to put Kimchi containers into the refrigerator, take them out of it, or clean its inside. Seventy-five percent of the respondents reported the experience of body-part pains and 58.4% of them reported pain experience in the back. It is presumed that these results are highly correlated to the top-cover design of the refrigerator, which is the most popular type to improve its performance of maintaining proper temperature. Therefore, the developers should consider these usability problems related to the refrigerator and try to enhance its usability by adopting ergonomics in the design stage.

언어장애인을 위한 안드로이드 기반 의사소통보조 어플리케이션 (An Android Application for Speech Communication of People with Speech Disorders)

  • Voice is the most common means for communication, but some people have difficulties in generating voice due to their congenital or acquired disorders. Individuals with speech disorders might lose their speaking ability due to hearing impairment, encephalopathy or cerebral palsy accompanied by motor skill impairments, or autism caused by mental problems. However, they have needs for communication, so some of them use various types of AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication) devices in order to meet their communication needs. In this paper, a mobile application for literate people having speech disorder was designed and implemented by developing accurate and fast sentence-completion functions for efficient user interaction. From a user study and the previous study on Korean text-based communication for adults having difficulty in speech communication, we identified functionality and usability requirements. Specifically, the user interface with scanning features was designed by considering the users' motor skills in using the touch-screen of a mobile device. Finally, we conducted the usability test for the application. The results of the usability test show that the application is easy to learn and efficient to use in communication with people with speech disorders.

스마트폰 기반 쇼핑몰의 사용성 향상 기법 (Usability Improvement Method of Shopping Mall based on Smartphone)

  • 스마트폰 보급이 증가하고 무선 인터넷의 사용이 증가함에 따라 온라인 쇼핑 역시 모바일 쇼핑으로 그 환경이 변화하고 있다. 그러나 유선 인터넷 쇼핑몰의 이용에 비해 국내 모바일 쇼핑 서비스는 기대에 미치지 못하고 있다. 이는 모바일 기기의 제한된 화면 크기 및 입력의 불편함, 느린 인터넷 속도 등과 같은 제약사항이 주요 원인이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 국내 주요 모바일 쇼핑몰에 대하여 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. 모바일 웹 사이트 제작을 위해 고려되어야 할 사항과 모바일 사용자 배려, 쇼핑몰의 주요 기능을 고려하여 평가 항목을 정의 하였다. 휴리스틱 평가 방법을 이용하여 국내 주요 모바일 쇼핑몰 3곳에 대한 사용성 평가를 수행하였다. 사용성 평가 결과를 분석하여, 모바일 쇼핑몰의 문제점과 개선방향을 제시하였다.

중등 교사와 학생의 환경 교육 교재에 대한 의견 분석 (Secondary Teachers' and Students' Opinion on Environmental Education Textbooks)

  • This study was designed to make valuable suggestions for the development of environmental education(EE) teaching materials through teachers' and students' opinions. In the summer of 2005, an opinionnaire was sent to 1,749 secondary school EE teachers and 270 teachers of them answered. One hundred and six middle school students and 196 high school students in Kyunggi area were also participated in this survey. The opinionnaire in this study was based on the six standards, fairness and accuracy, depth, emphasis on skill building, action orientation, instructional soundness, and usability, developed by NAAEE(1998). Most teachers were totally dependent on textbooks in their teaching EE. They evaluated current EE textbooks most positively in the perspective of 'fairness and accuracy', whereas they evaluated them most negatively in the perspective of 'usability'. The problems of EE textbooks were differently recognized by teachers and students. The lack of contents stimulating students' interest was considered as the most serious problem of EE textbooks by students. Simultaneously, it was considered as the least serious problem of EE textbooks by teachers. Both EE teachers and students expect the future EE textbooks would consist of proper contents to reflect EE characteristics.

전자도서관 웹사이트의 품질향상을 위한 사용성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Usability Evaluation for Improving Quality of University Digital Library Website in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 호서대학교 전자도서관 웹사이트를 대상으로 하여 웹사이트 사용성 평가도구를 이용한 분석(Doctor HTML 및 Web Site Garage)을 적용하여 웹브라우즈의 호환성 및 접속속도를 분석하였고, 온라인 설문조사를 실시하여 네비게이션, 기능성, 이용자의 통제, 언어 및 컨텐츠, 시스템 및 이용자 피드백, 일관성, 구조적 및 시각적 명료성 등의 주요 속성에 관한 분석 및 평가를 통하여 문제점 및 개선방안을 도출하였다. 그리고 분석 및 평가결과를 반영하여 사용성에 기반한 우리나라 대학의 전자도서관 웹사이트 구축에 적용할 수 있는 일반적 지침을 제시하였다.

제품의 사용성이 사용자의 감성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The effects of the usability of products on user's emotions)

  • 본 연구에서는 심리적 측정방법의 한계점을 보완할 수 있는 효과적인 감성 측정방법의 일환으로 감성어휘 로깅 소프트웨어 'VideoTAME'을 개발하여 제품을 사용하는 도중에 표출되는 사용자의 감성변화를 측정하였다. 이를 통해 제품의 사용성이 사용자의 감성에 어떤 영향을 미치는 지에 대하여 밝혀내는 것이 본 연구의 궁극적인 목적이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 실험실에서 피실험자 30명을 대상으로 그들이 휴대폰을 가지고 일련의 태스크를 수행한 장면을 녹화한 동영상을 'VideoTAME'을 통해 재생해 보면서 자신의 감성변화를 평가하게 하였다. 실험 분석 결과, 사용성에 문제가 있어서 수행하기 어려운 태스크에서는 '불편성'과 같은 부정적 감성이 많이 표출되었고, 아직 그 근거가 다소 미약하기는 하지만 사용성에 문제가 없어서 수행하기 쉬운 태스크에서는 '사용적 만족성'과 같은 긍정적 감성이 많이 표출되었다. 또한 제품 사용 중 사용자의 감성변화가 태스크의 전체적인 속성 보다는 각 태스크를 수행하는 시점에서의 상황에 의해 유발된다는 것을 발견할 수 있었다. 향후 개발한 'VideoTAME'을 활용하여 보다 많은 실험데이터의 수집과 분석을 통해 제품의 사용성이 사용자의 감성에 어떤 영향을 미치는 지에 대하여 보다 더 명확하게 밝혀낼 수 있으리라 기대한다.

  • There have been vigorous studies on smart home appliances with ubiquitous technologies overseas as well as in Korea. Kookmin university has provided a one-room type test bed as one of many experienced-type test beds and has applied many smart home appliances with ubiquitous technologies to the test bed to examine their interrelations and usability over a year. This article scrutinize applied situations and their problems of the appliances and based on the findings we suggest smart home appliances with ubiquitous technologies in various housing types.

  • The change of digital convergence service environment converted the subject of design into user -centric one instead of developer-centric one, and changed the existing design environment focused on product development into the new user -centric design environment. Accordingly, GUI considering user's usability come to take big shares in those contents being used for multimedia equipments. However, as the present educational contents provide complex interface due to its design produced based on the existing e-learning system, they have many problems in that they don't consider user's usability. Thus this paper aimed to analyze actual examples through GUI elements of educational contents being used for multimedia equipments and attempt to suggest some directions for development. additionally, consider the various characteristics of digital convergence environment and educational contents, and try to set up strategic directions possible to utilize user'-centric interface elements more usefully and properly at the time to produce designs.

PDA를 위한 스크롤 및 정보 제시 방법의 인간공학적 설계 (Ergonomic Design and Evaluation of Scroll and Information Presentation Methods on a PDA)

  • Mobile internet access using such devices as PDAs and cellular phones becomes popular as mobile technologies grow. However, the characteristics of small screen devices such as small screen size and pen-based input cause many usability problems. In this study, a human factors experiment was conducted to identify the factors affecting the usability of information search on a PDA. Factors manipulated in the experiment included use of wheel equipment, scroll dimension, and screen orientation. Task completion time, error frequency, and subjective satisfaction level were measured. In addition, various users' behavioral patterns such as scanning routes and mainly used scrolling methods were analyzed. Scroll dimension has a significant effect on task completion time. Scroll equipment and screen orientation affect subjective satisfaction level. The results could be applied to designing information structure of web sites for mobile use by providing vertical scroll and using external scroll equipments.

  • In the nuclear industry, in order to keep pace with the 4th industrial revolution era, they are trying to improve the construction and maintenance ability by utilizing the technologies such as digital twin and VR/AR from the construction stage. However, the nuclear 3D CAD model, which is used as the base in the latest technology, is heavy due to a large number of facilities per unit space compared to other industrial companies, and it is difficult to directly incorporate the latest technology into the results of CAD programs for design purposes. In this study, in order to improve usability, we tried to lighten the 3D model. First, we analyze the existing nuclear power plant 3D model and draw out the problems and features. Secondly, we derived the factors to consider when we make the 3D CAD models lightweight.
