The objectives of this study were to investigate the present of agricultural extension education implemented in agricultural colleges since 1993 and to explore the development directions for strengthening the agricultural extension education in Korea. The Advanced Agricultural Management Program (AAMP), College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, Seoul National University is a rural adult education program for selected young farmers as a part of university extension education. The AAMP offers classes to farmers to improve their managerial skills in farming including high-technology agriculture, farm management, communication and information, and also offers various classes in the area of social, economic, and cultural affairs to improve leadership. Since the innovative AAMP started in March 1993 at the Seoul National University, 18 local national and private universities have adopted this model within six months to a year period. The AAMPs are integration of formal education with extension education, and expected develop understanding of the problems of rural areas and a strategic model for rural development. The programs are expected to contribute to develop human resources in agriculture and rural society, activate university extension, and lead the balanced development between urban and rural sectors in Korea.
Background and objective: The vitalization of urban agriculture has increased various forms of experience-based education using school gardens, which raised the importance of school gardens in terms of value as well as the need to develop an implementation system for education-based agricultural experience service using school gardens. Thus, we reset the evaluation indicators from the previous study to establish objective evaluation indicators that enable quantitative comparison of school garden education services. Methods: Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and direct question (DQ) surveys were conducted on 20 experts from October 12 to 19, 2020 after establishing the purpose and subjects of evaluation, and then the weights were calculated using the Expert Choice 2010 program. Results: First, we analyzed the problems of the previous indicators by categorizing the performance indicators and comparing and verifying them with six requirements of valuation. Then, we added 'welfare values' and established sub-indicators accordingly. The importance of value indicator in AHP was in the order of education values (0.544), health values (0.182), welfare values (0.164), environmental values (0.062), and economic values (0.049). The importance of environmental and economic values was relatively low, less than 0.1. The importance of sub-indicators was highest in cultivating character (0.144), followed by enhancing ecological sensitivity (0.141) > promoting mental health (0.134) > cultivating agricultural literacy (0.120) > improving social skills (0.104). And mitigating climate change in environmental values was lowest (0.009). Increase in income was the lowest (0.036). This can be regarded as the expression of change to increase the educational effect based on collective life and the connotative meaning of 'school'. In the case of DQ, the AHP weight and order were the same, but the environmental and economic values were relatively low, and the result was different from AHP weight. For sub-indicators, the importance in DQ was highest in promoting mental health (0.136), followed by promoting physical health (0.085), ]cultivating character (0.082), social integration (0.072), and enhancing ecological sensitivity (0.071). After reviewing related experts, we came up with 5 evaluation indicators and 16 sub-indicators for school garden education service, which are objective evaluation indicators that enable quantitative comparison. Conclusion: In the future, we will validate the socioeconomic values of school garden education services and contribute to revitalizing school gardens by establishing policy alternatives for effective operation and management of school gardens.

This research aimed to propose an organizational system that implements a planning agreement in local small and medium sized city, Korea. To conduct this research, three successful cases were deduced using integration systems to investigate purpose and background of the planning agreement. Articles, reports, media, and participation in meetings and workshops related on this topic are used for collecting data and interview of regional activists and experts, and public officials were carried out. Among them, the case of Yeongju city that used the new integration system instead of pre-adminstration system was examined in detail. There are three local governments; Yeongwol-gun, Jeungpyeong-gun, and Yeongju city which have successfully fulfilled projects from various departments of central adminstration not projects of planning agreement. The similarity noticed between those three cases is to continue various projects from several departments of central adminstration for numerous years and contribute to regional revitalization. A successful factor was to establish organizational system and manage it for the integration plan and performance for appropriate regional and administrative characteristics. In particular, in the case of Yeongju city, organization for urban architectural management composed of civilian experts were formed, authorized status on administrative organization was established, and the function and role were identified. It is helpful to other local governments to carry out the projects of planning agreement as the case of Yeongju city is now a new method.
Purpose: This study aims to explore the distribution of work-life integration against COVID-19 and its Implications by analyzing remote work in Switzerland. Research design, data and methodology: The study performed literature review and descriptive analyses using various data such as perception surveys, statistics, and related documents. Results: The infectious disease was a turning point for many people in Switzerland by changing where and how people want to live. Since the COVID-19 crisis demonstrated that disease could be spread by proximity, negative perception about urban areas expanded, and rural areas are increasingly preferred due to fresh and clean air and a more ecological lifestyle. In addition, increased remote work, a change brought about by COVID-19, has subsequently led to changes in household habits and needs. Distance from work is no longer an important factor when someone chooses where to live. A trend is now emerging where households wanting to improve the quality of life leave the city center and move to the suburbs. Conclusions: Paradoxically, such trend accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis has an unintendedly positive impact on the distribution of work-life integration across society while providing more flexibility in terms of place and time management and lowering the burden on roads and infrastructure.
The purpose of this study is to explore social supports for elderly housing and their residential lives in small cities along rural counties of the United States and Canada, and suggest future implications for age-concentrated rural villages in Korea. In this study, five small and medium cities in non-metropolitan counties of California and Ontario province were visited and elderly residents and service experts were interviewed about their perceptions of community integrated social support networks for senior residences. The senior housing complexes were built due to influx of both metropolitan and rural residents seeking warm localities, traffic connections, business purposes in active production areas. and leisure attractions. There are five main social support networks for senior housing issues in these areas. First, the areas are claimed for senior zones and accordingly health industries are encouraged by local authorities. Second, the community is homogeneously constructed as a senior friendly environment and include features such as an RV park and mobile cottages. Third, senior-helping seniors are offered active work through golf-cluster active retirement communities. Fourth, traditional theme production camps are mobilized by the elderly workers. Lastly, an information system is maintained for screening volunteers and for senior abuse prevention. On the other hand, residential lives are occasionally negatively influenced by unbalanced concentrations of elderly facilities such as nursing stations and funeral homes. For the future of Korean rural elderly policies, suggestions are made as follows: first, an integrated urban and rural township that contains attractive places for early retiring people who seek a warm atmosphere in later life needs to be constructed. Second, an integrated model retirement village of urban and rural retirement life needs to be initiated as a measure of evaluating the adaptation process of movers in senior concentrated zones. Third, a cooperation system among governmental ministries needs to be formed with the long- term goal of establishing a traditional rural town of independent housing districts and medical facilities in rural areas. Fourth, productive and active lifestyles need to be maintained as the local community and government develop successful retirement rural villages, by limiting the expansion of nursing related facilities. Finally, generation integrated visiting welfare programs and services need to be further developed for the housing areas especially in the winter, when social integration and activity are relatively low.

In this study, five low cost small housing zones such as cottage and mobile home parks in non-metropolitan counties of California and Ontario State such as Weed, Paradise, Sun City,, Wellington on the Lake, and Trenton were visited and the elderly residents and service experts were interviewed. The senior concentrating housing clusters were formed primarily from influx of both metropolitan and rural residents for the purpose of seeking warmful localities, traffic connections, and business purposes in theme focused production areas. On the other hand, residential lives in the zones are occasionally negatively influenced by unbalanced concentrations of elderly facilities such as nursing stations and funeral homes. For the future of Korean rural elderly policies, suggestions are made as follows: first, integrated forms of urban and rural township need to be settled as attracting places for early retiring people who seek low cost pastoral oriented but culturally activated environment. Second, a model town of mobile housing structures needs to be initiated as a measure of evaluating adaptation process of those movers. Third, a cooperation system among governmental ministries needs to be formed in order to integrate a long term master plan of establishing traditional rural town of independent housing districts. fourth, productive and active lifestyles need to be maintained for government lead retirement rural villages by limiting expansion of nursing related facilities around the independent areas. Fifth, visiting welfare service programs and volunteer groups need to be further developed for the housing area especially in winter time, when social integration and emotional comforts are extremely limited.
Since the village maintenance type public housing project was introduced in 2015, the resident needs for regional revitalization and pleasant living conditions are not being met due to the poor performance of the public housing complexes that reflect the surrounding area maintenance plan (village plan) and regional characteristics. The purpose of this study is to suggest a plan to revitalize the village maintenance type public housing project in consideration of regional characteristics as a result of analyzing the needs of local residents through the problems of the village maintenance type public housing project being promoted so far and resident satisfaction. As a result of the analysis based on the public housing project implementation status analysis and resident satisfaction, the plans to activate the village maintenance type public housing project are as follows. First, in order to secure the effectiveness of the village plan, it is desirable to promote the public housing project and the village plan at the same time. It is necessary to secure a budget according to the selection of public offering projects in the village plan, such as promoting public housing projects without setbacks by prioritizing land purchases for public housing sites and establishing specialized strategies considering regional characteristics. Second, a public housing project that responds to local demand is required. The evaluation factors such as continuous promotion of the urban architecture integration plan and strengthening of regional linkage plans such as specialization of regionally tailored designs should be supplemented so that regional resources and village plans are linked with the public housing specialization plan. Third, surrounding area maintenance plan (village plan) should be secured by the strengthen of the legal status or establishing related provisions. It is also necessary to promote system improvement for area maintenance plan (village plan) when selecting a publicly funded public project.
The present study examined the cultural sensitivity of community members to migrant wives in Korea. A total of 12 community members: 4 neighbors, 4 practitioners, and 4 public officials from both urban and rural area were interviewed about their prior experiences with migrant wives. The participants provided their personal feelings and thoughts on a variety of issues involving migrant wives, such as cultural integration, cultural knowledge, opportunity equality, cultural originality, language usage, openness, and the movement toward a more multicultural society. Interview results indicated that the participants had perceived others' prejudice toward migrant wives in Korean society; the results also indicated that they wanted to participate in cultural festivals and gain knowledge of other cultures. The majority of the participants endorsed a uni-directional perspective on cultural adaption, and they thought of migrant wives as community members. The participants' attitudes toward a multicultural society were both positive and negative, and they suggested that Korean society is moving toward a broader perspective. Implications of the study and directions for future research were discussed.

A living environment of filming and fishing village is on the serious conditions because of the situation of rural exodus, import of farm products from advanced nations and various other factors. This study devised an improvement project of a group village and computerized related data connected with one in order to promote poor living conditions of farmers and fishermen to the urban level. In this study, we show that we can give necessary information when we build up integration system as well as we can expect quickness and correctness of a work management with computer for related data about an production project of a group village at farming and fishing village. In addition it is show that is possible to guide management data when we undertake revision and repair of facilities rapidly and can support an intensive decision among alternative plans.
Short rotation woody crops belonging to the genera Populus L., Salix L., Pinus L., and Eucalyptus L'Her. have provided broad economic and ecological benefits throughout the world, including afforestation and reforestation along urban to rural gradients. Within the genus Populus, cottonwoods, poplars, aspens, and their hybrids (hereafter referred to as poplars) have been shown to exhibit favorable genotype ${\times}$ environment interactions, especially in the face of changing climates. Similar growth responses have been reported for Pinus, especially with white pine (Pinus strobus L.) in the North Central United States. This has led to current research priorities focused on ecosystem services for both genera. The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (2005) defines cultural, supporting, provisioning, and regulating ecosystem services. The overarching objective of this paper was to synthesize information about the potential of poplars to provide multiple ecosystem services when grown at sites with varying soil and climate conditions across landscape gradients from urban to rural areas. Specific objectives included: 1) providing background of the United States Forest Service and its Research and Development branch, 2) integrating knowledge of current poplar breeding and development with biomass provisioning and carbon regulating ecosystem services as they relate to changing climates in the North Central United States, and 3) providing a case study illustrating this integration through comparisons of poplar with white pine. Our results were evaluated in the context of climate change mitigation, with specific focus on selection of favorable genotypes for sequestering atmospheric carbon and reducing fossil fuel carbon emissions.
