  • The objective of this paper is to present a methodology for the classification of spatial patterns considering the parameters of urban form which play a significant role in the formation of the urban climate. The urban morphological parameters, i.e. building coverage, impervious pavement, vegetation, water, farmland and landuse types were used to classify the spatial patterns by a K-means cluster analysis. And the presented methodology was applied on Changwon city, South Korea. According to the results of cluster analysis, the total spatial patterns were classified as 24 patterns. First of all, The spatial patterns(A-1, A-2, A-3, B-1, B-2, B-3, C-1, C-2, C-3, D-1, D-2, D-3, E-1, E-2, E-3, F-1, F-2, F-3, G-1, G-2, G-3), which distributed in the rural area and the suburban area, can have the positive impacts of cold air generation and wind corridor on an urban climate environment, were distributed in the rural area. On the other hand, the spatial patterns of the downtown area including A-4, B-4, C-4 and D-4 are expected to have the negative impacts on urban climate owing to the of artificial heat emission or the wind flow obstruction. Finally, it will require the future research to analysis the climatic properties according to the same spatial patterns by the field survey.

  • Objectives: The study aim was to analyze the regional differences in dietary protein intake and protein sources of Korean older adults and their association with metabolic syndrome. Methods: Study participants were 1,721 older adults aged 65 and over who participated in 2016-2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Using 24-hour recall dietary intake data, protein intake and their food sources were examined. The association between protein intake and metabolic syndrome, obesity, and abdominal obesity were analyzed by multiple logistic regression. Results: Total protein and animal protein intakes were higher in urban area (60.0 g, 24.4 g, respectively) than in rural area (54.6 g, 19.6 g, respectively). With increase of protein intake level, animal to total protein proportion was increased in both areas. Total protein and plant protein intake was negatively associated with the risk of obesity, abdominal obesity in both areas. Animal protein intake was negatively associated with the risk of obesity in both areas, and with abdominal obesity only in urban area. In urban area, plant protein intake was also negatively associated with the risks of metabolic syndrome, elevated triglyceride, and reduced high density lipoprotein-cholesterol. In urban area, the risk of metabolic syndrome was decreased when their protein intake was more than 0.91 g/kg and was lowest when their protein intake was more than 1.5 g/kg (P for trend < 0.001). Conclusions: Korean older adults showed inadequate protein intake and those in rural area showed lower animal protein intake than in urban area. The risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome was decreased with the increase of protein intake level. These findings may help develop effective nutrition support strategy for older adults to reduce regional health disparity.

  • The purpose of this study, the trend of renewable energy, domestic and foreign renewable energy policies, and the flow of the legal system related to renewable energy location were identified, and a location analysis using public data was studied when solar energy was located. First, renewable energy is leading to energy conversion by reducing the proportion of existing fossil fuel-centered energy sources in the global trend and increasing the proportion of renewable energy, an eco-friendly energy source, and changing the institutional and market structure. Second, large-scale solar energy power plants are installed and operated in rural areas where there is no change in insolation and land prices are cheaper than in urban areas where there are many changes in insolation due to surrounding high-rise buildings and street trees. Third, if a preliminary location review is conducted using public data at this time, it will be easy to identify the optimal location for area and size calculation. Fourth, the solar energy location functional area was studied in area A, and the total area of the target area was 624.5km2, with 392.7km2 and 62.9% of the avoidance area where solar power cannot be located.

  • In Korea, rural village improvement has mainly been led by goverment investment. This approach, however, has its own limit since there are so many village to be improved while the budgetary sources are restricted, As an alternative, inducement of private investments to these area is considered in order to promote rural village improvement. The possibility of inducing private investments to the rural village improvement depends on the location of the village. The possibility may be highest in the sub-urban area since expected benefits from land development is usually high. One desirable approach to induce private investment to these area is the cooperative development system. Residents, private investors and governments plays its own role, independently and cooperatively, But benifits from the investment to improve rural village in general plain area are so low that it is difficult to induce the private investments to these area. In that case, indirect development system will be a proper strategy which maintaining government-led development method as usual, expanding the participation of private developers such as the construction companies. In general, rate of returns from investment to the rural sectors is lower than that to the other sectors, therefore financial support such as the long- term, low loan rate and a partial value-added tax exemption should be given to the investors to the rural village improvement projects.

The concept of rural planning in Korea have been confronted with many problems and need to make new paradigm being able to develop depressed rural area. The highest valve in rural planning have been changed from economic development oriented to environmentally sound and sustainable development oriented. Also, the strategy of rural development have been changed rapidly. The growth pole theory and agricultural economic development strategy have been replaced by the urban-rural linkage theory and multi-sectoral development strategy including economic. social and spatial development. In recent, The implementation instruments for rural development focus on the participation of residence in rural area.

  • Rural area is not only majority area of national territories but also conservative area of traditions. But, rural area is, compare to the urban area, keep at a distance from the progression of industrialization and construction of infrastructures, and depopulation by push/pull effect of industrialization caused aged residents of the rural area. vacated space of the rural region, and ruined the rural amenity. And the other side, investment for the agriculture and rural area was focused to development of water and land reclamation for improvement of rice cultivation since late of 1960. As same steps, the rural settlement regional planning project was implemented with nation wide scale ever since the 1990. But, there was no guidance and technique firmly settle down for the rural planning. The rural planning that have rationality and reasonability must be set by systematical approach of planning hierarchies and interdisciplinary of multiple area of research. Hence, the guidance compilation was proposed and implemented for the rural planner and engineers, although timely late.

  • Recently the rural women's role has been changed from assisting men to leading major farm work. However, contribution of women in the rural area has not beers fairly evaluated. Hence, it has been difficult for the rural women to receive the reasonable compensation if they injured, had some disasters or were divorced. Therefore this study tried to suggest economic methods such as market cost approach, opportunity cost method and shadow wage method for evaluating rural women's labor. It might provide some information for helping to establish the status of rural women as a income earner through estimating money value of labor contributed by rural women and furthermore, be useful information to improve the efficiency of farm labor by exploring the relationship between value of labor and actual income. Hence, it might help improve the economic situation and life at home of rural women, solve difficulties in the real life and reduce disparity of economic distribution between urban and rural area.
