  • In this paper, we propose a monitoring system that can monitor gas leakage concentrations in real time and forecast the amount of gas leaked after one minute. When gas leaks happen, they typically lead to accidents such as poisoning, explosion, and fire, so a monitoring system is needed to reduce such occurrences. Previous research has mainly been focused on analyzing explosion characteristics based on gas types, or on warning systems that sound an alarm when a gas leak occurs in industrial areas. However, there are no studies on creating systems that utilize specific gas explosion characteristic analysis or empirical urban gas data. This research establishes a deep learning model that predicts the gas explosion risk level over time, based on the gas data collected in real time. In order to determine the relative risk level of a gas leak, the gas risk level was divided into five levels based on the lower explosion limit. The monitoring platform displays the current risk level, the predicted risk level, and the amount of gas leaked. It is expected that the development of this system will become a starting point for a monitoring system that can be deployed in urban areas.

  • Greenhouses gas emission due to usage of fossil fuel has been known as one of the main causes of global warming. Fundamentally, greenhouse gas is a by-product of economic activity. Since majority of economic activity happens in an urban setting, a countermeasure in an urban setting is needed. Therefore, an analysis of relationship between carbon dioxide emission and urban form will be investigated for urban planning and management in the future. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between carbon dioxide emission and urban spatial patterns, and suggesting an urban form with low carbon dioxide emission. In order to achieve this, first theoretical analysis was carried out on urban spatial patterns related to physical size, usage rate, and activity level. Secondly, Seoul's dam on electricity, natural gas, local heating, petroleum, and water usage and mapping a carbon dioxide emission map. Thirdly, relationship between carbon dioxide emission and urban spatial patterns are analyzed and urban spatial patterns that affects energy usage in urban setting was elucidated, and elicited implications on future directions on urban planning based on our analyses above.

  • In order to establish the comprehensively, quantitatively predictable program to the fire and explosion accidents in the urban gas system, and to set up domestic criteria of societal risk, the collected urban gas accident data have been deeply analyzed. The Poisson probability distribution functions with t=5 for the database of the gas accidents in recent 11 year shows that 'careless work-explosion-pipeline' item has the lowest frequency, whereas 'joint loosening & erosion-release-pipeline' item has the highest frequency. And thus the proper counteractions must be carried out. The further works requires setting up successive database on the fire and explosion accidents systematically to obtain reliable analyses.

  • The stratification phenomena of still hydrogen (20%) and methane (80%) gas mixture in a vertical urban gas pipe have been investigated by simulating the flows based on a mixture model. The stratification is accompanied with the natural convection by the buoyancy force. The hydrogen volume fraction in the upper sections of the pipe increases with time but the increasing rate gets smaller due to the weaker buoyancy force. The pipe with a smaller diameter exhibits a higher peak of hydrogen concentration. The size of vortices is proportional to the pipe diameter. The slip velocity between hydrogen and methane oscillates with a large amplitude at the earlier stage of stratification and then the amplitude decreases sharply. The slip velocity decreases with the diameter, making the stratification become slower. The length of pipe does not affect the stratification since the pipe is sufficiently long relative to the size of vortices.

  • The questionnaires about the safety of the urban gas have been carried out for the end users. about 8 of 10 persons said that the urban gas Is safe to use, whereas $35\%$ of them said there exists a hazard of an accident in thier residences. There cannot be found the clear evidences that the understandings on the safety of the urban gas have no relations to their ages, sex, and monthly incomes, while the safety is less confidential to the highly educated, the accident-experienced, or the mans who are poor at the safety inspections. Most of the questioned man know the inspection knacks for the gas utilities, but only $60\%$ of them carry out it. They said that they do not feel the necessity of the inspection because they are inspected routinely by the suppliers or the inspection companies. This says that the end user does not concern the safety inspections, and in order to improve the dependency of the user for the self-inspections, the inspection staff should educate the user for the necessity and the knack of inspections to encourage the self-inspection of the gas utilities.

  • Most of gas turbine combined cycle power plants are located in urban areas to provide peak load and district heating. However, NOx(nitrogen oxides) of exhaust gas emission from the power plants cause additional fine dust and thus it has negative impact on the urban environment. Although DLN(dry low NOx) and multi-stage combustors have been widely applied to solve this problem, they have another critical problem of damages to combustors and turbine components due to combustion dynamic pressure. In this study, the effect of different fuel ratio on NOx emission and pressure fluctuation was investigated regarding two variable conditions; combustor stages and power output on M501J gas turbine.

  • After conducting QRA(quantitative risk assessment) for the high pressure urban gas pipelines planned to be installed, RMMs(risk mitigation measures) when the societal risk is outside the acceptable region have been derived in this paper. Also risk reduction rates are calculated for each RMM. As a result of QRA, we find out that damaged distance caused by radiational heat is largely dependent upon the wind velocity and the atmospheric stability. The measure that has the highest risk reduction effect is No. 10 which includes pipeline corrosion monitoring, MOV(motor operated valve) installation and the method to protect pipeline damage caused by third-party mechanical interference, and which shows 75 % of risk reduction effect.

  • In this study, a comprehensive model developed to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from urban area with low impact development (LID) and its integrated management practices (IMPs). The model was applied to the actual urban area in Asan Tangjeong district (ATD) as a case study. A rainwater tank (1200 ton) among various LID IMPs generated the highest amount of GHG emissions ($3.77{\times}10^5kgCO_2eq$) and led to the utmost reducing effect ($1.49{\times}10^3kgCO_2eq/year$). In the urban area with LID IMPs, annually $1.95{\times}104kgCO_2eq$ of avoided GHG emissions were generated by a reducing effect (e.g., tap water substitution and vegetation $CO_2$ absorption) for a payback period of 162 years. A sensitivity analysis was carried out to quantitatively evaluate the significance of the factors on the overall GHG emissions in ATD, and suggested to plant alternative vegetation on LID IMPs.
