  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for planning and designing Village Parks in Seoul in the future, which result from analyzing post-occupancy evaluation. For conducting this study, 10 Village Parks among 45, built between 1996 and 1997, were selected and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. The degree of satisfaction of 10 Village Parks in Seoul has been evaluated on a scale of 10, to be a 6.68 average. This result means that the most respondents are satisfied with the existing Village Parks in Seoul. The correlation of the degree of satisfaction with major planning factors for 3 types of Village Parks shows that accessibility is the most important factor. As for future directions of planning and designing Village Parks, many kinds of sitting, leaning and resting place need to be provided. It is also necessary to improve the visual quality of the parks with various spatial elements. The research also shows that various facilities for people's use should be provided in Village Parks.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the interior characteristics of the Yale center for British art by Louis I. Kahn. As his last realized project, the Yale center for British art shows Kahn's latter architectural thoughts about exterior/interior, space/structure and theory/practice. Kahn arranged unit space(room) around two interior courts and laminated them vertically. This spatial configuration is the result of solving the urban context which needed the continuity of street and complicated program including art museum, retail shop, studio and library. Although Kahn adpted severe formal configuration, he added changes to spatial relation. The visualization of architectural system is realized by revealing the relation of the unit space and structure. And this emphasized the presence of the center. The emphasis of tectonic expression is also the characteristics of interior in that structure is the logical part of whole building system rather than concealing object for the exterior of buildings. In the Yale center for British art, interior characteristics are summarized as spatial configuration based on the relation between unit space and two courts, the visualization of structural order, and the relationship between structure and light.

  • This study examines the rural village planning in North Korea after the Liberation of Korea in 1945. For conducting this study, the creation of rural villages in North Korea were investigated according to the following periods: from the Liberation of Korea to the outbreak of the Korean War, from the end of the Korean War to the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. In this study, major rural villages were also examined and common characteristics of rural village-making in North Korea were analyzed. The following are the findings from this study. In rural village planning, historic revolutionary sites and buildings, where revolutionary achievements of Kim, Ill-Sung and Kim, Jung-Ill were reached, are well preserved and actively created. (2) Rural villages are intended to be a place for ideological education, productive activities and cultural refreshment. (2) In rural village-making, inclined planes are utilized, in consideration of climatic and topographic conditions. (4) The construction of residential areas with modern private houses is considered to be important in the making of socialistic and communist rural communities in North Korea. (5) For economic reasons, existing villages, buildings and facilities are preserved and local building materials are broadly used.

  • In this study, design characteristics of Village Parks in Seoul are investigated through an analysis of structuring themes expressed in spatial design. The goals and objectives of this study are: to emphasize the significance of design themes; and to demonstrate an approach to the design of landscapes through an analysis of structuring themes. For conducting this study, geometric forms and naturalistic forms were examined first. That is, the following 15 structuring themes were examined, as guiding themes: the 90$^{\circ}$rectangular theme; the 45$^{\circ}$/90$^{\circ}$angular theme; the 30$^{\circ}$/60$^{\circ}$ angular theme; circles on circle; concentric circles and radii; arcs and tangents; circle segments; the ellipse; the spiral; the meander; the free ellipse and scallops; the free spiral; the irregular polygon; the organic edge; and clustering and fragmentation. Forty five Village Parks in Seoul, built between 1996 and 1997, were analyzed through these 15 structuring themes. An analysis of Village Parks was conducted by the following two categories: land shape and structuring themes; and design directions and structuring themes. The research results are as follows; 1) Geometric forms are more frequently applied than naturalistic forms. 2) Regardless of land shape, geometric forms derived from simple primary shapes, the square and the circle, are frequently used. And the meander and the irregular polygon among naturalistic forms are frequently used. 3) Regarding design directions and structuring themes, design concepts, symbolic meanings and spatial forms are, to some degree, integrated. 4) The spiral is not applied among geometric forms. And the meander and the irregular polygon, as naturalistic forms, are frequently utilized. Research findings obtained from this study could be used in the designing of future Village Parks. For a profound study, future, research is needed in two-dimensional plans and three-dimensional elements of Village Parks.

  • Domestic industrial complexes have more loss competitiveness due to their deterioration length and environmental problems. Therefore, it is necessary to suggest the direction of realignment as advanced industrial estates and establish new alternative plans for improving the quality of public and environmental designs as well as reinforcing the competitive power. This study examined the design planning factors affecting the service users' satisfaction in the Seoul Digital Industrial Complex through a PLS regression model. The research result showed that 12 crucial design planning factors out of a total 31 planning factors have a more than 1.0 VIP. In addition, 8 comparatively important planning aspects that were measured between 0.9 and 1.0 were also investigated. These factors were the strategic design planning factors estimating the quantitative priority while enforcing the design improvement project and they should be considered as a useful material for strengthening the competitive power of the Seoul Digital Industrial Complex.
