유사휘발유 사용에 의한 BTX 배출량 추정 (Estimation of BTX Emission Using Pseudo-gasoline)

  • The increasing consumption of pseudo-petroleum products (PPP) has been disturbing the national petroleum market. The use of PPP lead to tax evasion, disturbance of sound trading principles, component corrosion of cars, and explosion accident. Also, PPP have emitted hazardous air pollutants (HAP) including the carcinogenic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs and aldehydes more than regular-petroleum products. It thus has potentials to cause many environmental and health care problems. In this study, benzene, toluene and xylene emissions from road transport vehicles due to the use of pseudo-gasoline are estimated for the year 2008. The results of our study provide emission estimates of benzene, toluene and xylene for the year as 405, 1,711, 717 tonne/yr, respectively for regular-gasoline. BTX emissions are calculated as 452~515, 1,882~2,264 and 732~752 tonne/yr when the amount of pseudo-gasoline is estimated to account for 6~13% for regular-gasoline consumption. BTX emissions increased as much as 12~27, 10~32, 2~5% by using pseudo-gasoline. It is found that the pseudo-gasoline should be the key component to produce HAP in urban area.

지하환경의 대기오염물질 규제에 관한 조사연구 (A Survey of the Air Quality in Underground Environment)

  • The underground living spaces have become one of the major environment of this decade in urban area. This study was carried out to examine contamination level for purpose of preservation of the pleasant underground environment. Three subway stations and three underground shopping centers in Seoul and two underground shopping centers in Busan were selected and surveyed by measuring gaseous pollutants $(SO_2,\; NO_2,\;CO,\;HC,\; HCHO,\;CO_2)$, dust, airborne microbes, and the other air condtions (temperature, humidity, air pressure, air flow, kata cooling power). These examined data were compared with four kinds of standard (building sanitation management, room air quality standards, occupational safety and health standards, ventilation equipment) as environmental hygiene.

자동차가 환경적으로 지속가능한 도시교통에 미치는 영향 (The Environmental Impact of Automobiles on Sustainable Urban Transportation)

  • As of July 1997, the registered number of automobiles exceeded 10 million and Korean auto industry produced 2,850,000 cars. Many environmentalists warn that the passenger cars are not sustainable urban transportation system in large cities. The cars produce about 80% of air pollutants, and consume 30% of petroleum imported. For the past 30 years the administration increased the road system, but the length of road per car is decreased from 813m in 1965 to 9m in 1995. The cost of traffic congestion was estimated to be \14.7 trillion in 1996, and is feared to increase without changing the present transportation system. The undesirable impact of cars include the casualties from traffic accidents, insurance loss, and separation of human relatioships. To construct sustainable urban transportation system, three principles should be followed. The first principle is to make the urban streets walkable for the people. The second principle is to encourage bicycling. Roads and traffic systems should be designed to let bicylces travel safely. The third principle is to supply more buses and construct integrated transportation system based on buses. The subway system is too expensive to construct and without the support of a well-organized bus system it may not work efficiently. The Brazilian city of Curitiba has constructed a very efficient bus system only with 1/80 of the estimated cost of subway system. The car-oriented transportation system does not seem to be an envrironmentally sustainable transportation system in most of the Korean cities.

수도권 대기환경 개선사업-진단과 제언 (Critical Evaluation of and Suggestions for a Comprehensive Project Based on the Special Act on Seoul Metropolitan Air Quality Improvement)

  • On January 1, 2005, the Korean Ministry of Environment put into operation a comprehensive program, so called 'Blue Sky 21' project, for the improvement of air quality in greater Seoul metropolitan area. This program was legally based on the 'Special Act on Metropolitan Air Quality Improvement' for Greater Seoul area, which was established in 2003, and should be updated every 10 years. The principal objective of this program is to improve the air quality in Seoul and surrounding area by 2014 to the levels of air quality in Tokyo and Paris, with particular emphases on reducing the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and $PM_{10}$. Any regulation of the emission of toxic air pollutants in general, and $NO_2$ and $PM_{10}$ in particular, should be based on human exposure levels and consequential health effects. In this article, the contents and feasibility of the special program were critically evaluated with respect to the reduction of health risks. Important issues for improving not only air quality but public health are discussed, and future requirements for the success of the special program are suggested.

교통흐름에 기인하는 미세먼지 노출 도시인구에 대한 시.공간적 분석 (Spacio-temporal Analysis of Urban Population Exposure to Traffic-Related air Pollution)

  • 자동차를 중심으로 하는 도로교통량이 크게 늘면서 교통에 기인한 다양한 피해 현상들이 나타나고 있다. 특히 교통량이 집중되는 대도시에서는 교통에 기인한 도시민의 건강피해가 심각한 것으로 밝혀지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 교통에 기인한 미세먼지의 피해를 직접적으로 받는 도시인구는 미세먼지의 주 발생원인 교통흐름이 있는 도로변에 가까이에 노출되는 도시민들이라고 보고 도시 공간 내에서 교통흐름과 미세먼지, 그리고 도시 통행인구의 공간적 분포를 분석하였다. 특히 본 연구에서는 대기오염문제가 심각한 서울을 대상으로 교통에 기인한 미세먼지의 실태를 살펴보고, 서울을 둘러싸고 있는 경기도 일대에 대단위 주거지들이 밀집된 신도시들이 개발되면서 나타나는 인구분포와 통행패턴, 그리고 교통흐름 및 미세먼지 농도에 나타나는 공간적 변화와 이들 간의 공간적 관계를 종합적으로 파악하기 위하여 GIS를 적용하였다. 또한 교통카드 트랜잭션 데이터베이스에서 데이터마이닝기법으로 추출해낸 통행흐름 자료를 이용하여 통행시간별 통행인구분포도를 작성하고, 이를 바탕으로 교통에 기인한 미세먼지에 직접 노출하게 되는 도시인구를 산정하는 시 공간적 모형개발을 시도하였다.

CFD analysis of ventilation efficiency around an elevated highway using visitation frequency and purging flow rate

  • The concentration of air pollution along roads is higher than the surrounding area because ventilation efficiency has decreased due to the high-density use of space along roads in recent years. In this study, ventilation efficiency around a heavily traffic road covered by an elevated highway and hemmed in along its side by buildings is evaluated using Visitation Frequency (VF, the frequency for pollutant to return to the objective domain) and Purging Flow Rate (PFR, the air flow rate for defining the local domain-averaged concentration). These are analyzed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based on the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. The VF and PFR characteristics of four objective domains are analyzed in terms of the changes in wind direction and arrangements of the fencing dividing up and down direction in the road center under the elevated highway. The resulting VFs are more than 1.0 for all cases, which means that pollutants return to the objective domain restricted by the elevated highway and side buildings. The influence of the arrangement of the buildings around the objective domain and the structure in the domain on the VF is substantial. In cases where there are no obstacles under the elevated highway, the local air exchange rate in the domain tends to be improved. Using these indices, the urban ventilation efficiencies between different urban areas can be compared easily.

오염농도의 공간적 분포를 고려한 도시림의 대기정화기능 계량화 (A Quantitative Analysis of Air Purification Effectiveness on Urban Forest Considering the Spatial Distribution of Pollutant Concentration)

  • 본 연구는 도시의 대기환경과 관련하여 도시림의 정화 기능을 평가해보고 개선방안에 대해 고찰해 보는 것이 목적이다. 대기오염은 도시화가 특히 심화되어 있는 지역일수록 심각하기 때문에 우리나라의 대도시 중 하나인 대구광역시를 대상으로 도시림의 대기정화기능을 추정하였다. 오염물질의 흡수량을 산정함에 있어 기존에는 고려되지 못했던 오염농도의 공간적 차이를 적용하였으며, 크리깅을 통해 대기확산모델링 자료의 해상도를 향상시켰다. 도시림의 유형 및 분포를 파악해 본 결과, 대상지역 도시림 내의 식생군락은 총 26개 유형이었으며, 소나무군락, 소나무-신갈군락, 소나무-상수리군락 등 다양한 수종이 분포하고 있었다. 도시림의 대기정화기능을 알아보고자 $CO_2$의 흡수량을 파악해 본 결과, 연간 흡수량은 총 108,155t/yr인 것으로 분석되었다. 도시림의 대기오염물질 흡수량의 경우 $SO_2$ 흡수량은 총 183.5t/yr이었으며, $NO_2$ 흡수량은 총 410.2t/yr인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 오염농도에 대한 공간적 분포를 고려하지 않아 확인이 불가능했던 농도에 따른 흡수량의 차이를 확인해 볼 수 있었다.

중부 지역 도시 자연녹지 토양중 $NO_3\;^-,\;SO_4\;^{2-}$ 및 중금속 분포 (Distribution of $NO_3\;^-,\;SO_4\;^{2-}$ and Heavy Metals in Some Urban-forest Soils of Central Korea)

  • 본 연구는 도시자연녹지토양의 오염여부와 특성을 구명하기 위해 강원도 오대산을 대조구로 하여 남산, 창덕궁 후원 및 부천 성주산의 도시자연녹지 토양의 대기오염물질과 중금속 및 이화학적 성분을 비교${\cdot}$분석하였다. 토양 pH는 표토, 심토 모두 오대산>남산>창덕궁>성주산 순으로 나타났으며 대기오염물질인 음이온 $(NO_3\;^-,\;SO_4\;^{2-})$ 함량은 남산, 성주산>창덕궁>오대산 순으로 나타났다. pH와 대기오염물질과의 상관관계를 분석해본 결과 강한 부의상관을 보여 대기오염물질에 의한 토양산성화가 진행되고 있음을 보였다. 토양산성화에 따른 양이온 용탈 정도는 크게 나타나지 않았으나 계속 진행될 것으로 보인다. 남산, 부천 성주산, 창덕궁 후원 도시자연녹지 토양의 중금속 함량은 오대산에 비해 높게 나타났으며 표토가 심토에 비해 집적이 심하였다. 따라서 도시자연녹지 토양은 자동차 배기가스 등의 대기오염물질의 만성적인 노출로 토양산성화와 중금속 축적 등에 의한 산림생태계 악화가 우려된다.

포천시 공단지역 미세먼지 중 중금속농도 특성 (Characteristics of Heavy Metals in the Industrial Complex Area of Pocheon City)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this survey was to assess the concentrations of heavy metals in the atmosphere of Pocheon City by measuring heavy metals in the industrial complex area and at the city air measuring station, and also to assess the degree of impact that the industrial area has on urban air quality. Methods: Sampling was carried out between February 2018 and November 2018 at two sites in the industrial complex and in the city air monitoring stations. Results: At the industrial complex in Pocheon City, air pollutant emitting businesses were emitting concentrations of fine dust (PM10) between 45 and 60 ㎍/㎥ higher than in the city air. The daily maximum concentrations of lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), and cadmium (Cd) in the industrial complex are below the WHO recommendation standard (annual average), and the impact on the urban atmosphere is judged to be insignificant. Three to five percent of fine dust (PM10) consists of metallic materials, and as the fine dust increased, metals were detected proportionally. Although cadmium (Cd) and beryllium (Be) were not detected in the city air in Pocheon and chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), and arsenic (As) were found to be 50 percent or less, it is deemed that copper (Cu) was detected at unusually high levels due to unknown air pollutants, which requires regular heavy metal measurement and cause verification. Conclusions: An analysis of the heavy metals in the industrial zone and the urban atmosphere in Pocheon City in this study showed that the linear relationship of heavy metals in the industrial zone, or the direct impact relationship, on the heavy metals in the urban atmosphere could not be estimated. The sampling device for equivalent assessment of particulate matter installed at air pollution monitoring stations is highly likely to be used for analysis of fine dust and heavy metals.

열환경 향상을 위한 아파트 주동배치계획 (Planning Apartment Complexes to Enhance Thermal Environment)

  • Environmental pollution becomes a serious problem in urban areas. Moreover, densely constructed strictures can be problematic to cities due to the rising temperature they cause as well as the increasing accumulation of air pollutants they generate by interrupting airflow. In order to improve residential amenity, it is necessary to improve the thermal environment by preserving wind corridors. To do so requires consideration to important aspects such as building arrangement, scale, vegetation, and land cover, which all have an effect on wind corridors. In this study, a typical arrangement-complex, which is the primary form of housing in Korea, was selected as a case ENVI-met. As a result of empirical analysis, the optimal apartment-complex arrangement that is most suitable for mitigating urban heat-islands phenomenon was determined, The outcome of this study can be utilized as a planning technique for apartment-complex construction in consideration to type of buildings, scale of buildings, and land cover.
