The taxonomic revision of the family Uranoscopidae from Korea was made on the basis of the speciemens collected in the coasts of the Korea from 1986 to 1994. The key to the species and genera for classification of the famiiy Uranoscopidae was provided with synonym and their distributions. The stagazer fishes from Korea are composed of 6 species in 3 genera: Uranoscopus Japonicus, U. bicinctus, U. chinensis, U. tosae, Gnathagnus eolngatus and Ichthyscopus lebeck sannio. The Korean stagazer fishes were widely distributed in the West and South Sea of Korea, but only Ichthyscopus lebeck sannio distributed in the around sea of Cheju Island.

A stargazer fish, Uranoscopus tosae of family Uranoscopidae was collected for the first time in Kunsan, Korea. The U. tosae was similar to U. oligolepis in exomorphological features but had sharply distinguishable from U. oligolepis in the several characteristics, U. tosae had the embedded cycloid scales on the nape between both lateral lines. 4 preopercular spines, anterior tubular and posterior slit of nostril pores, and narrower and longer respiratory valve than orbit. No other patterns were presented on the surface of head and body.

A stargazer fish, Ichthyscopus lebeck sannio, of family Uranoscopidae was collected for the first time in Cheju-shi, Cheju-do. Ichthyscopus lebeck sannio has several taxonomic characteristics : large white spots on the surface of body ; without cleithrum spine ; developed and branched labial fimbriae on the both lips ; triangular pectoral fin ; having fimbriated membranous projection on upper part of pectoral fin and having single dorsal fin.

A total of 46 Gnathagnus elongatus larvae, 2.7~8.7 mm BL (Body length), were collected by bongo net and trawl-shaped fish larvae net in the coastal area of Cheju Island during 1997~1999. This species was found in the coastal area of Cheju Island and the Korea Strait. This paper describes morphological features of these specimens throughout their development. 1) The soft ray of fin appeared at about 5 mm BL and attained to a fixed number at about 8.7 mm BL. 2) Pigments pattern changed suddenly about 3 mm BL. 3) A series of pigments in the upper and the lower part of the urostyle were found less than 4.3 mm BL. 4) The pigments of caudal peduncle were found more than 6 mm BL.
