  • CAMPfonn2D is a Finite Element Method (FEM) based process simulation system designed to analyze two dimensional (2D) flow of various metal forming processes. It enables designers to analyze metal forming processes on the computer rather than the shop floor using trial and error and provides vital information about material and thermal flow during the forming process to facilitate the design of products. CAMPfonn2D can be used by companies, research institutes and industrial applications to analyze forging, extrusion, drawing, heading, upsetting and many other metal forming processes. Also, process simulation using CAMPfonn2D can be instrumental in cost, quality and delivery improvements at leading companies. Today's competitive pressures require companies to take advantage of every tool for rapid manufacturing of well-designed product. So, the preprocessor of simulation program must be easy to use to speed-up design. In this paper, we introduce new version of Preprocessor and show how easy to use it. And, Preprocessor will prove itself to be easy and extremely effective.

열간분말단조 공정의 열탄소성 유한요소해석 (Thermo-Elasto-Plastic Finite Element Analysis of Powder Hot Forging)

  • A finite element analysis to solve the coupled thermomechanical problem in the plane strain upsetting of the porous metals was performed. The analysis was formulated using the yield function advanced by Lee and kim and developed using the thermo-elasto-plastic time integration procedure. The density and temperature dependent thermal and mechanical properties of porous metals were considered. The internal heat generation by the plastic deformation and the changing thermal boundary conditions corresponding to the geometry were incorporated in the program. The distributions of the stress, strain, pressure, density and temperature were predicted during the free resting period, deformation period and dwelling period of the forging process.

  • Simultaneous forward-backward extrusion upsetting has been carried out by ratray forging. Two materials has been used commericaly 6.61 aluminium ally and 0.2% steel. The effects of working conditions ; spiral feed ; initial aspect ration of specimen and lubricating condition on the backward and forward extrusion were clarified. The extrusion length increases a sthe aspect rationof the specimen increases, the backward extrusion lengthbeing relatively larger than the forward one. The effects of the spiral feed and the material on the extrusion lengthis remarkably large for the large spiral feed.

  • This paper suggests the scheme to simultaneously accomplish prediction of fracture initiation and analysis of deformation in metal forming processes. the Cockcroft-Latham criterion is used to estimate whether fracture occurs during the deformation process. The numerical predictions and experimental results of simple upsetting are compared. The proposed scheme successfully predicted the fracture initiation found experimentally.

  • The occurrence of ductile fracture is the working limit of many metal forming processes. It is necessary to predict the criteria and to apply the condition in a process design. Over the years. the way for clarifying conditions have been studied and presented. However such a way needs lots of experiments and analysis. In this study, in order to determine the critical damage value of a used material Cu 4N, it was performed a tensile test and FEM analysis by using DEFORM 2D. For applying the obtained critical damage value it was also performed a upsetting test by using DEFORM 2D. The way of determining a critical damage value which is presented in this study will make possible to find easily it which is one of the working limit factor. And the way of determining a critical damage value will make possible to find in multi-pass drawing process.

  • For semi-solid forging, it is necessarily required to prepare a workpiece with globular microstructure. Among several processes to obtain golbular microstructure, SIMA process is very simple and advantageous with respect to equipment. This paper presents the influence of effective strain on the globularization with aluminium 2024 alloy in cold working stage by SIMA process. Upsetting and forward extrusion are tested for cold working and induction heating is also carried out for reheating to obtain golbular microstructure. Microstructure is observed with an optical microscope. And finite element simulations to obtain effective strain in cold working stage are performed by using commercial finite element code, DEFORM.

A Oen-step Hot-forming Process for the Preparation of Anisotropic Nd-Fe-B Based Magnets

  • A new hot-forming process has been studied to produce anisotropic Nd-Fe-B based magnets from melt-spun ribbons. The ribbon fragments were inserted in a Cu tube and hot-deformed together with one-stroke. At a height reduction ratio of 0.44, the melt-spun ribbons were densified into a magnet with a density of 7.14 g/cm3, and showed a (BH)max of 14.6 MGOe. With further deformation, the magnets were plastically deformed with Cu tubes in the lateral direction, and crystallographic anisotropy was introduced. The magnets with a height reduction ratio of 0.75 exhibited magnetic properties of (BH)max = 32.1 MGOe, Br = 11.7 kG, and iHc = 10.6 kOe. This process shows the possibility that the conventional hot-pressing and subsequent die-upsetting for anisotropic magnets can be simplified into a one-step process.

  • The outer race of BJ type C.V.Joint has a complicated shape and ball grooves. It is produced by cold or warm precision forging. Especially, the precision level of the ball grooves determines the quality of the part. The objective of the present study is to develop process conditions of the cold forging using the plasticine. Because the cold forging consists of forward extrusion, upsetting, backward extrusion and cold sizing, the study was focused on finding the best perform for each process. The data obtained from the study will be used in the design of the cold forging process for the outer race.

온간단조금형의 수명연장에 관한 연구 (A Research on Lengthening the Life of Warm Forging Die)

  • 자동차의 A.C 제너레이터(alternating current generator) 부품으로 사용되는 로터폴(rotor pole)을 가공할 때는 트랜스퍼온간단조금형(transfer warm forging die)으로 성형한다. 소재를 온간가공 영역으로 가열한 후 즉시 금형안으로 이송시켜 제1스테이지(1st stage)에서 업세팅가공(upsetting work)하고 제2스테이지(2nd stage)로 이송하여 측방압출(lateral extrusion)가공을 한다. 이때 측방압출 스테이지의 금형에서 다이블록(die block), 다이부싱(die bushing), 센터펀치(center punch), 사이드펀치(side punch)의 접촉면이 압출시의 과혹(過酷)한 조건에 견디지 못하여 쉽게 마멸(abrasion)되어 금형수명(die life)을 단축시키고 있다. 이 때문에 생산량 감소로 인한 납기지연, 금형의 수리보수시간 과다, 제품의 정밀도 저하 등의 문제점이 발생되고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 금형재질 선정과 열처리 작업 싸이클 개선, 방전가공시의 트러블 해소, 핵심부품의 구조변경 등을 연구하여 금형수명을 40~50% 연장 하고자 하였다.

업셋 단조의 좌굴 및 소성 불안정 유동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Buckling and Plastic Instable Flow in Upset Forging)

  • The plastic instable flow phenomenon happens in practical forming process, I. e. upsetting, backward extrusion, piercing, indentation. And also, it is difficult to control precisely the shape and dimensions of forming process. It is found that instabilities of the process are mainly connected with imperfections in the lubrication, billet eccentricity, inclined punch alignment. In view of the direct relationship between instable material flow and quality defects of the products and for better control of forming operation, we should necessarily find out their phenomena. In this study, we introduced the friction disturbance due to inclined punch angle. Analysis of upset forging is carried out using the rigid plastic FEM and slab method with eccentricity. Also, we considered the buckling parameters of billet with the large aspect ratio in upset forging.
