Background: Obesity is associated with menstrual disorder. Especially, upper-body obesity affects on female reproductive function. Objectives: The goals were to investigate relation between fat distribution and menstrual disorder in obese pre-menopausal Korean females. The hypothesis were tested that there is a relation between upper body obesity and menstrual disorder. Design: A cross-sectional evaluation of 66 Females (baseline age $32.15{\pm}7,32)$ with body mass index $31.22{\pm}4.05\;kg/m^2$. Body composition was measured using bioimpedence analysis (BIA) and anthropometry was done by same observer. VAS and Multidimensional verval rating scale(MVRS) were checked for menstrual pain. Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) was measured for evaluating body fat distribution. Menstrual disorder and body fat distribution were compared using statistical methods. Results: TLFR and WH ratio was higher in menstrual cyclic disorder group than controls. There was negative relationship between VAS and TLFR. Conclusions: The data shows that disorder of menstrual cycle was associated with upper body obesity. WH ratio could be one of the factor of menstrual disorder. VAS was correlated with lower body obesity. Further studies for role of upper body fat distribution on female reproductive function and relationship between menstrual pain and fat distribution thought to be needed.

The purpose of this study was to provide fundamental data of characterizing for age group of obese women's body shape. The subjects were 132 obese women, age of 20~59. The criteria of obestity based on Vervaeck index ($\geq$92.3), Rohrer index ($\geq$ 1.6), and bust girth ($\geq$90 cm). Thirty eight measurement items were used for F-test. Forty two transformed variables (including 4 additional variables) were used for cluster analysis The results were as follows: 1. Characteristics for age group were described that 20's was narrow shoulder, flesh contoured shape in upper body. 30's was rounded upper back, 40's was the slightest fatty shape, and 50's was the fattest round shape among four age groups. 2. Four types of obese women's body shape were classified by cluster analysis. Body shape of type 1 was fatty abdomen, and rounded upper back in 50's mainly. Body shape of type 2 was slightly fatty. Body shape of type 3 was round shape. Body shape of type 4 was the smallest girth in the obese women in 40's mainly.
This study was intended to figure out the effects of the amount and the distribution of body fat on the risk fators of adult disease. Sixty-four male college students paticipatied in this study, whose to find out body fat distributions were classified on the basis of Waist/hip ratio(WHR) into three groups-upper body type(UBTM), intermediate body type (IBTM) and lower body type(LBTM). Various risk factors such as adiposity, body fat ammount, serum lipid amount and blood pressure and their intercorrelations were analyzed. The three bodys type groups showed significant differences each other in weight(P<0.001), WHR showed considerable correlations with BMI and the percentage of body fat. The frequency of obesity assessed by BMI$\geq$25 and body fat percentage were the highest in the UBTM of the three groups. Thus, we could conclude that the closer the body fat distribution is to the upper body type, the higher the BMI and body fat percentage. Waist/girth ratio(WTR, P<0.01) and BMI(P<0.05) were positively correlated with serum triglyceride levels, and % of body fat was positively correlated with both serum triglyceride (P<0.01) and serum total cholesterol(P<0.05) levels. WHR (P<0.05), BMI(P<0.01) and % of body fat(P<0.01) also showed positive correlations with systolic blood pressure. From the above results, we could conclude that body fat distribution was a good index reflecting adiposity and body fat amount and that blood and serum amount of triglyceride was highest in the upper body type group showing the highest frequency of obesity.
The purpose of this study is to collect data for he improvement of the accuracy of upper garments construction of the old whose bodies have been changed due to their age. In this study the body measurements with 61 items were taken from 226 men(aged fro m 60 to 80) living in Seoul by the R. Martin's method in 1992. The data were calculate by computer and analyzed by the multivariate method, especially factor and cluster analysis. The results of the study were as follows; 1. The average stature of elderly males was 163.6cm, chest circumference 91.6cm, waist circumference 9\\85.5cm. hip circumference 92.8cm, neck circumference 37cm, arm length 55.4 cm, back length 42.6cm, shoulder breadth 42.9cm and the Roher's Index 1.39, which was a standard body shape. 2. The items of factor analysis were explained to seven, namely, the degree of fatness of the upper body, the size of the frame of body, the length of the upper body, the degree of curve of the front body, the size of shoulder, the shape of the back, and the slope of shoulder. 3. The body types of subjects were classified into four types. The majority was type 4, which was 67% of subjects and considered as balanced body type. The distinctive features of those types are as follows; Type 1. The subjects of this type had a slight skeletal structure and were the thinnest of all the subjects with thin and forward-bent arm. Type 2. The subjects of this type were the tallest of all the subjects. they had the straightest side of body and a well-developed upper arm. The thigh length of this type was longer than the length of trunk. Type. 3. The subjects of this type was only one, so ti could be excluded. Type 4. The subjects of this type had a long trunk, well-developed shoulder, and a crook in their neck and back. The arm length and thigh of this type were short and those circumferences were thick. Type 5. The subjects of this type were the shortest of all, but had the highest degree of fatness in the waist and abdominal. They had well-developed front muscles of body and projected hip.
This study conducted a survey to compare the size of ready-made clothes for different body shapes and body sizes, and to discover the differences in satisfaction with the size of ready-made clothes. The subjects were women in their 208 and 308 from Busan and Gyeongnam. The women were classified into groups: normal weight, overweight, and obese, using the Body Mass Index (BMI). The comparison of the body size showed a significant difference among the shapes; the average BMI in overweight women was 24.2 while that of obese women was 27.6. For the clothing size for each body shape, obese women most often wore size 77 and size 88, regardless of the sizes of upper and lower garments. The size consistency of upper and lower garments was the lowest in obese women. However, in most of the shapes, women tended to choose larger-sizes for lower garments than for upper ones. The more obese the subject, the less inclined they were to wear garments for their real body size. Satisfaction with the clothing size was significantly different between body shapes; the more obese, the lower the level of satisfaction with the size. As well, satisfaction with the fit of clothing at certain parts was shown to be low especially in the bust measurement, shoulder width, upper garment length, crotch length, and thigh circumference. When surveyed about the use of alterations for different body shapes, the results were that over 65% of subjects did not alter upper garments regardless of their body shape. Comparatively, 68% or above of all body shapes did do alterations to lower garments for example, the length of pants or skirts.

The purpose of this study is to provide a basic data of clothing development that can improve the satisfaction of the body shape by examining the subjective evaluation and characteristics of each type. The types of body shape of middle-aged women were analyzed as four types: elasticity loss ladder type, flat rectangular type, thin reverse ladder type, and upper body obesity inverted triangle type. The elasticity loss ladder type was developed with the lower body, and it was analyzed that the legs size such as the thighs and claves were large, the abdomen was protruded, and especially the underbelly appeared. The flat rectangular type was the largest of the four types, and was the skinny type. The width was larger than the thickness of the body, and the difference between the hip circumference and the waist circumference was small, and it was classified into a flat rectangular shape. The thin reverse ladder type was the smallest of the four types, the upper body was developed, the back had weight, and the body was leaning forward. And the lower body and leg were poor and the abdomen was protruding. Finally, the upper body obesity inverted triangular was the highest type of BMI index among 4 types. All of subjects belong to the mild and middle obesity, and the second was the smallest but the most weighted type among 4 types. They had the fat body and big bust, the upper body was developed, and the lower body and legs were analyzed to be poor body shape. Based on the body shape of middle-aged women, it is necessary to develop designs and patterns that can cover the shortcomings of body shape.
The aim of this study was to investigate the change in women's somatotype with aging. The subjects were 1,123 women aged 40~69. Their anthropometric data were from the 6th Size Korea. The data were analyzed by factor analysis and cluster analysis. Seven factors were extracted: body mass, body length, back shoulder, arm length factor, front interscye factor, body rise factor, and shoulder angle. The upper body types of middle-aged and elderly women were classified into five types: skinny, short stout body type with forward posture, composite, tall & full body type, and short & skinny. The skinny and composite body type appeared more often than the short stout body type in the early 40s of Korean women. Starting in the mid-50s, composite body type was less often found. However, the number of women with short stout body type increased. In the 60s, the number of women with short stout and tall & full body types decreased. These results reveal that the body types of middle-aged and elderly women changed with some pattern with aging. And women in their early 40s, mid-50s, and 60s women had different body shapes and postures.

This study aims to analyze middle-aged men's frontal body shape asymmetry by measuring the left and right body dimensions and angles of 388 middle-aged men aged 40 to 59 using 3D body scan data and comparing the measured values. The study also compares the measured values of width, height, and angle and their relationships using Size Korea's anthropometric measurement and posture index of the New York Posture Rating Scale. The results confirm that the asymmetric shape characteristics of the upper and lower body appear differently. In addition, the asymmetrical characteristics between the upper and lower body differed, indicating that the close parts of the body affect each other. Similar to the difference in the left and right frontal body shapes and the average angle distribution, the asymmetrical upper and lower body characteristics also are found to be dissimilar when the correlations are examined. In contrast, there is no asymmetry in the width, height, and angle considering the age and BMI groups. Finally, the study classifies three body types and identifies their asymmetric characteristics. Overall, this study contributes primary data for further research on pattern production for asymmetric and unique body types and the development of customized apparel products.
This research studied several somatotypes for children's upper bodies in order to suggest the basic data of bodice patterns of children's clothing. By extracting the component factors from the children's bodices, they were classified into several somatotypes to recognize an individual body type. Three hundred and fifty eight children's wears were estimated as research objects to analyze their somatotypes for the 44 items representing upper bodies through anthropometric measurement and photometric measurement. The results are as follows : 1. Seven factors were extracted as a result of factor analysis. 2. Data were classified into three types as a result of cluster analysis : Type 1 was characterized as low fat body, small skeleton size, and forward belly ; type 2 as high fat body, normal hight, backward shoulder, and the lowered shoulders ; type 3 as medium fat body, tall height, somewhat crouching back, and the rising shoulders. 3. As a results of the discrimination analysis for the three types, the highly discriminated items were height, width of bosom, front center length. weight, width of waist or the length of waist. One could discriminate one's own body type by obtaining the classification function from these five items.
The purpose of this study was to compare the somatometric characteristics obtained from the factor scores of both upper and lower body by regional differences. The sample group was drawn from boys at the ages 7 to 12 living in Pusan and Kyungsangnam-do. Data from each boy comprised 57 anthropometric measurements and 11 photographic measurements. The study reached following conclusions. 1. According to the result of factor analysis, five indicative factor's were obtained from the upper body measurements and four indicative factors were obtained from the lower body measurements. 2. According to the comparision of factor scores on measurements of the upper body between Pusan and Kyungsangnam-do, there were differences in all five factors. Boys in Pusan had higher stature, bigger frame, more protruded chest and shoulder blades, more sloping curve along with the backbone, more protruded belly, narrower and sloping shoulders than boys in Kyungsangnam-do. 4. According to the comparision of factor scores on measurements of the lower body between Pusan and Kyungsangnam-do, there were differences in factor 1 and factor 4. Boys in Pusan had bigger frame and flatter hip than boys in Kyungsangnam-do.
