  • We have developed a biologist-friendly, stand-alone Java GUI application, IdBean, for ID conversion. Our tool integrated most of the widely used ID conversion services that provide programmatic access. It is the first GUI ID conversion application that supports the direct merging as well as comparison of conversion results from multiple ID conversion services without manual effort. This tool will greatly help biologists who handle multiple ID types for the analyses of gene or gene product lists. By referring to multiple conversion services, the number of failed IDs can be reduced. By accessing ID conversion service online, it will potentially provide the most up-to-date conversion results. The application was developed in modular form; however, it can be re-packaged into plug-in form. For the development of a bioinformatics analysis tool, the module can be used as a built-in ID conversion component. It is available at http://neon.gachon.ac.kr/IdBean/.

  • For a rule-based conversion of Hangout into the Roman alphabet rather than a word-for-word conversion, one must come up with a faultless model for the Korean standard pronunciation rules, which are the basis of the Romanization. It is on this foundation that the Korean-Roman alphabet conversion table can be created. For linguistic modeling using PetriNet, modeling boundary and notation of modeling can be defined. In order to describe PetriNet, which is a dynamic modeling tool, as a static one, one can model the standard Korean pronunciation rules and the Hangout-Roman alphabet notation by conversion into incident matrix Thus, this research attempts to develop a mathematical modeling tool for a natural language using PetriNet, and create a Korean-Roman alphabet conversion table.

  • A new on-the-fly conversion algorithm is proposed, and high-speed array multipliers with the on-the-fly conversion are presented. The new on-the-fly conversion logic is used to speed up carry-propagate addition at the last stage of multiplication, and provides constant delay independent of the number of input bits. In this paper, the multiplication architecture and the on-the-fly conversion algorithm are presented and discussed in detail. The proposed architecture has multiplication time of (n +1)$t_{FA}$, Where n is the number of input bits and $t_{FA}$ is the delay of a full adder. According to our comparative performance evaluation, the proposed architecture has shorter delay and requires less area than the conventional array multiplier with on-the-fly conversion.

  • $YNbO_4:Yb^{3+}/Er^{3+}$ is synthesized using a solid-state reaction process with a LiCl flux. The effects of the Er/(Yb+Er) ratios ($R_{Er}$) on the up-conversion (UC) and down-conversion (DC) spectra are investigated. The XRD data confirm that the $Yb^{3+}$ and $Er^{3+}$ ions are fully substituted for the $Y^{3+}$ sites. The UC emission spectra activated by 980 nm consists of green and red emission bands, which originate from the $Er^{3+}$ ions through an energy transfer (ET) process from $Yb^{3+}$ to $Er^{3+}$. The UC emission intensity depends on the $R_{Er}$ value, and the findings demonstrate that $R_{Er}{\leq}0.14$ is suitable for an effective UC process. The DC emission spectra under 269 nm radiation of the synthesized powders exhibits not only a strong blue emission assigned to the $[NbO_4]^{3-}$ niobates, but also green peaks that originate from the $Er^{3+}$ ions through an ET process between $[NbO_4]^{3-}$ and $Er^{3+}$.

  • To enhance the performance of SEWGS system by holding the WGS catalyst in a SEWGS reactor, a spring type bed insert was developed. In this study, effects of operating variables such as steam/CO ratio, gas velocity, syngas concentration on CO conversion were investigated in a fluidized bed reactor using the spring type bed insert to hold the WGS catalyst as tablet shape. CO conversion increased initially as the steam/CO ratio increased. But further increment of the steam/CO ratio caused decreasing of CO conversion because of increment of gas velocity and decrement of syngas concentration. Moreover, CO conversion decreased as the gas velocity increased and the syngas concentration decreased at the same steam/CO ratio. Continuous operation up to 48 hours (2 days) was carried out to check reactivity decay of WGS catalyst supported by spring type bed insert. The average CO conversion was 99.04% and we could conclude that the WGS reactivity at those conditions was maintained up to 48 hours.

  • A novel high step-up converter is presented herein, which combines the conventional buck-boost converter, the charge pump capacitor and the coupling inductor. By doing so, a quite high voltage conversion ratio due to not only the turns ratio but also the duty cycle, so as to increase design feasibility. It is noted that the denominator of the voltage conversion ratio is the square of one minus duty cycle. Above all, there is no voltage spike across the switch due to the leakage inductance and hence no passive or active snubber is needed, and furthermore, the used switch is driven without isolation and hence the gate driving circuit is relatively simple, thereby upgrading the industrial application capability of this converter. In this paper, the basic operating principles and the associated mathematical deductions are firstly described in detail, and finally some experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed high step-up converter.

  • A new technology on video frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) is presented by combining the median filter and motion estimation (ME) with an occlusion detection (OD) method. First, ME is performed to have a motion vector. Then, the OD method is used to refine motion vector in the occlusion region. Since the wrong motion vector can be obtained with high possibility in the occluded area, a median filtering that less depends on the motion vector is applied to that area, and since the motion vector is continuous and robust in the non-occluded area, BDMC(Bi-Directional Motion Compensated interpolation) is applied to obtain interpolated image in that area. BDMC using the bi-directional motion vectors achieves good results when continuity and robustness of the motion vector is higher. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than the conventional approach. The average gain of PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) is approximately 0.16 dB in the test sequences compared with BDMC.

  • In this paper, a new predistortion linearizing method using frequency up-conversion operation of mixer is proposed. This linearizing method doesn't require any additional signal sources in spite of frequency up-conversion mixing operation. This method extracts the 2nd low frequency intermodulation distortion signal from input signals and uses the extracted 2nd low frequency intermodulation distortion signal as mixing signal source. To show validation of the proposed predistortion method, we made K-PCS power amplifier. On 2-tone signals amplification process, the (C/I) ratio of amplifier is improved 26 ㏈ (@Po=22 ㏈m/tone), where two tones are 1.8544 ㎓ and 1.8556 ㎓, respectively. And (C/I) ratio is improved more than to 20 ㏈ for 17 ㏈ output signal dynamic range. On IS-95A CDMA 1FA amplification process, the improvements of adjacent channel power ratio(ACPR) are 10.8 ㏈ and 6.4 ㏈ at ${\pm}$885 ㎑ and ${\pm}$1.25 ㎒ offset points, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a blocking artifacts detection algorithm in frequency domain for MC-FRUC (Motion Compensated Frame Rate Up-Conversion). Conventional MC-FRUC algorithms occur blocking artifacts near interpolated block boundaries since motion compensation is performed from block-based motion vector. For efficiently decreasing blocking artifacts, this paper analyses frequency characteristics of the interpolated frame and reduces blocking artifacts on block boundaries. In experimental results the proposed method shows better subjective quality than some conventional FRUC method and also increases the PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) value on average 0.45 dB compared with BDMC(Bi-Directional Motion Compensation).
