비선형 최소자승법을 이용한 성장곡선 모형의 매개변수 추정시 초기값 설정 방법에 관한 연구 (Determination of starting values in estimating growth curves by using non-linear least squares)

  • Growth curves including Logistic and Gompertz functions are widely used in forecasting the market demand. To estimated the parameters of those functions, we use the non-linear least square method. However, it is difficult to set up the starting points for each parameter. If a wrong starting point is selected, the result reveals the local optimum or does not converge to a certain value. The purpose of this paper is to resolve the problem of selecting a starting point. Especially, rescaling the market data using the national economic index make it possible to figure out the range of parameters and to utilize the grid search method. Applications to some real data are also included.

과학기술발전(科學技術發展)패턴의 추출(抽出)을 위한 계량적(計量的) 분석(分析) (Quantitative Approaches for Classification of the Patterns on Scientific and Technological Development)

  • The purpose of this study is to extract and classify the general patterns on scientific and technological development by quantitative approaches. Indicators used for this pattern classification amounted to a total of 39. what is more, these indicators were set up with the recent data for the first half of the 1970's mainly, and 141 nations were selected as the sample of the analysis. 7 aspects which prescribe the scentific and technological activities were established, and so 3 patterns of the S & T development were extrected by means of a "two-dimensional cross section" among them. (1) A pattern showing the trend of the exponential curve from the point over a certain level (in this study, it is defined as "Threshold Valued"). (2) A pattern in which elasticity of the exponential curve is gradually reduced from the point over the threshold value. (3) A pattern not showing any trend, but forming a large variance.

두 회전 롤러 사이의 유체 Splitting Point에 관한 연구 (The Splitting Point of Liquid Film between two Rotating Rollers)

  • The liquid film behavior between two rotating rollers has been analyzed for many years. Their contributions were, however, limited almost within the areas of polymer laminar flow in there. When the slip contact of two rotating rollers is used as a role of vehicle to distribute the liquid discharged on to each roller after splitting from the nip, there was few available relationship to control the roller speed and to design system. On this work it was possible to get out a certain relationship between the discharged film thickness ratio and the roller surface seeds without any help of pressure limit at the splitting point. The hydrodynamic analyzation of Newtonian liquid behavior around the point was well proved on some manipulative experiment. The thickness ratio increases along with the roll surface speed ratio increases. And the discharged volume flow rate ratio on each roller surface varies with square of the speed ratio. Both of these relationship have a decision factor also made up by the speed ratio.

Economic Growth and Environmental Quality : A Case Study from Industrial Sulfur Dioxide Provincial Panel Data in China

  • The Environmental Kuznets Curve Hypothesis postulates an inverted-U shaped relationship between GDP per capita and various pollutants. Pollutants emission increases up to a certain level as income goes up; after that, it decreases. This paper investigates the relationship between industry pollutants taking industrial sulfur dioxide omission as example, and economic growth by using province-panel data set from 1989 to 2004 in 28 provinces of P. R. China. The result shows that the EKC hypothesis may be supported in the case of industrial sulfur dioxide, and the GDP per capital of turning point is about RMB 13,548 (at 1978 price). Except Shanghai, all the provinces GDP per capital in this study are less than RMB 13,548, indicating the amount of industrial sulfur dioxide emission will be increasing in the near future. To realize sustainable development and pollutants abatement, the central and local government should adopt an integrated strategy to protect environment.

Application of superconductor technology to electromagnetic ship propulsion system

  • The superconducting electromagnetic propulsion system has been proposed as one of new alternative propulsion systems. Especially, the helical-type propulsion system has the greatest merit that is able to use the solenoid-type superconducting magnets with high magnetic fields. In this study, calculations of characteristics of the large scale helical-type thruster are carried out on the basis of our experimental results. As a couple of results of calculations, it is found that the thruster efficiency quickly increases with the length of electrode up to about 5 m and then goes up to about 0.9. The thruster efficiency peaks at a certain point ($^{\sim}0.6\;m$) and then falls as length of pitch increases.

  • The Delaunay triangular net is primarily characterized by a balance of the whole by improving divided triangular patches into a regular triangle, which closely resembles an equiangular triangle. A triangular net occurring in certain, point-clustered, data is unique and can always create the same triangular net. Due to such unique characteristics, Delaunay triangulation is used in various fields., such as shape reconstruction, solid modeling and volume rendering. There are many algorithms available for Delaunay triangulation but, efficient sequential algorithms are rare. When these grids involve a set of points whose distribution are not well proportioned, the execution speed becomes slower than in a well-proportioned grid. In order to make up for this weakness, the ids are divided into sub-grids when the sets are integrated inside the grid. A method for finding a mate in an incremental construction algorithm is to first search the area with a higher possibility of forming a regular triangular net, while the existing method is to find a set of points inside the grid that includes the circumscribed sphere, increasing the radius of the circumscribed sphere to a certain extent. Therefore, due to its more efficient searching performance, it takes a shorer time to form a triangular net than general incremental algorithms.

확장칼만필터를 사용한 사판식 피스톤펌프의 파라메타 추정 (Estimation of Parameters in a Swash Plate type Piston Pump Using the Extended Kalman Filter)

  • Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) is used to estimate friction and spring characteristics on the swash plate of a variable displacement pump. In earlier studies, the feasibility of the approach was established using simulation studies to establish limits of accuracy for the EKF approach when it was applied to an ideal situation. In this study, the EKF is applied to an experimental system and the issue of re liability in estimation of certain pump parameters is addressed. In addition, an approach to assign values to accommodate convergence of the EKF is considered. A special experimental system was set up to facilitate the measurement of certain states to enhance the EKF approach. Estimated parameters show ed some scatter about a specified operating point but in general, were reasonably repeatable. The study also showed that changes in the system parameters could be accurately tracked.

Development of an R-based Spatial Downscaling Tool to Predict Fine Scale Information from Coarse Scale Satellite Products

  • Spatial downscaling is often applied to coarse scale satellite products with high temporal resolution for environmental monitoring at a finer scale. An area-to-point regression kriging (ATPRK) algorithm is regarded as effective in that it combines regression modeling and residual correction with area-to-point kriging. However, an open source tool or package for ATPRK has not yet been developed. This paper describes the development and code organization of an R-based spatial downscaling tool, named R4ATPRK, for the implementation of ATPRK. R4ATPRK was developed using the R language and several R packages. A look-up table search and batch processing for computation of ATP kriging weights are employed to improve computational efficiency. An experiment on spatial downscaling of coarse scale land surface temperature products demonstrated that this tool could generate downscaling results in which overall variations in input coarse scale data were preserved and local details were also well captured. If computational efficiency can be further improved, and the tool is extended to include certain advanced procedures, R4ATPRK would be an effective tool for spatial downscaling of coarse scale satellite products.

영화에 나타난 악인 캐릭터의 시각적 이미지 분석 - 2000년대 이후 사례를 중심으로 - (An Analysis of the Visual Image of Villain Characters - Focusing on Korean Films Since 2000 -)

  • The villains in recent films are given interesting roles not only through the actual contents of the story but also by attractive personal characteristics including internal and psychological aspects. The purpose of this paper is to take a deeper look into the image styling process of villain characters. The cases will focus on seven representative Korean films that have attracted over one million audiences as of the year 2000, and the leading and supporting actors within those films. Analysis will be made mainly on the visual image creations of those villains. The visual images are categorized by the make-up, hair-do, clothing and accessories relevant to the psychological personality type of each actor's role and their background based on the given scenarios. The results are as follows: First, villain characters are portrayed as an individual with multiple personalities with regards to psychological, economical, and vocational aspects. Second, fashion trends of the character is an important element to keep pace with the times or to visualize the sense of the times in which the villain exists. Third, a specific point that characterizes the villain's character are expressed through various touches using noticeable accessories, specific colors in make up, hair style, and a certain fashion.

선박용 체크밸브의 최적설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimization Design of Check Valve for Marine Use)

  • The check valves are mechanical valves that permit fluids to flow in only one direction, preventing flow from reversing. It is classified as one way directional valves. There are various types of check valves that used in a marine application. A lift type check valve uses the disc to open and close the passage of fluid. The disc lift up from seat as pressure below the disc increases, while drop in pressure on the inlet side or a build up of pressure on the outlet side causes the valve to close. An important concept in check valves is the cracking pressure which is the minimum upstream pressure at which the valve will operate. On the other hand, optimization is a process of finding the best set of parameters to reach a goal while not violating certain constraints. The AMESim software provides NLPQL(Nonlinear Programming by Quadratic Lagrangian) and genetic algorithm(GA) for optimization. NLPQL is the implementation of a SQP(sequential quadratic programming) algorithm. SQP is a standard method, based on the use of a gradient of objective functions and constraints to solve a non-linear optimization problem. A characteristic of the NLPQL is that it stops as soon as it finds a local minimum. Thus, the simulation results may be highly dependent on the starting point which user give to the algorithm. In this paper, we carried out optimization design of the check valve with NLPQL algorithm.
