It is a proven fact with the opening of the Seoul metro line number 1 in 1974 traffic congestion on the roads has decreased and the efficiency of people transportation in general has greatly been enhanced in the downtown and surrounding areas of Seoul. Even today construction of new subway lines are under way and many more are being planned due to the easy access to stations, short waiting and average travel times, compared with personal vehicles, contributing to the efficiency of the public transportation systems that are linking the downtown areas and also the intercity systems in moving passengers during rush hour and times of special event. Since the labour costs of the train operator in any large city based subway system accounts for a major part of the operating costs per kilometer and to ensure cost efficient operations, especially during non-peak hours, it is necessary to implement an unmanned(auto-driven) subway system. In order to implement such a system it is imperative that the on-board and wayside signalling control systems be fully automated as well. Only through proper examination of safety procedures not only by the AUGT(Automated Urban Guided Transport)system but also by ail the international standards organizations involved can safely and stability be ensured.
As recent production facilities are usually operated with unmanned material-handling system, the development of an efficient schedule with deadlock avoidance becomes a critical problem. Related researches on deadlock avoidance usually focus on real-time control of manufacturing system using deadlock avoidance policy. But little off-line optimization of deadlock-free schedule has been reported. This paper presents an optimization method for deadlock-free scheduling for Job-Shop system with no buffer. The deadlock-free schedule is acquired by the procedure that generates candidate lists of waiting operations, and applies a deadlock avoidance policy. To verify the proposed approach, simulation resultsare presented for minimizing makespan in three problem types. According to the simulation results the effect of each deadlock avoidance policy is dependent on the type of problem. When the proposed LOEM (Last Operation Exclusion Method) is employed, computing time for optimization as well as makespan is reduced.
The development of flexible automation in the manufacturing industry is concerned with production activities performed by unmanned machining system A major topic relevant to metal-cutting operations is monitoring toll wear, which affects process efficiency and product quality, and implementing automatic toll replacements. In this paper, the measurement of the cutting force components has been found to provide a method for an in-process detection of tool wear. The static com-ponents of cutting force have been used to detect flank wear. To eliminate the influence of variations in cutting conditions, tools, and workpiece materials, the force modeling is performed for various cutting conditions. The normalized force dis-parities are defined in this paper, and the relationships between normalized disparity and flank were are established. Final-ly, artificial neural network is used to learn these relationships and detect tool wear. According to proposed method, the static force components could provide the effective means to detect flank wear for varying cutting conditions in turning operation.
A smart dust monitoring system is useful for obtaining information on rough terrain that is difficult for humans to access. One of ways to deploy sensors to gather information in smart dust environment is to use an aircraft in the Amazon rainforest to scatter an enormous amount of small and cheap sensors (or smart dust devices), or to use an unmanned spacecraft to throw the sensors on the moon's surface. However, scattering an enormous amount of smart dust devices creates the difficulty of managing such devices as they can be scattered into inaccessible areas, and also causes problems such as bottlenecks, device failure, and high/low density of devices. Of the various problems that may occur in the smart dust environment, this paper is focused on solving the bottleneck problem. To address this, we propose and construct a three-layered hierarchical smart dust monitoring system that includes relay dust devices (RDDs). An RDD is a smart dust device with relatively higher computing/communicating power than a normal smart dust device. RDDs play a crucial role in reducing traffic load for the system. To validate the proposed system, we use climate data obtained from authorized portals to compare the system with other systems (i.e., non-hierarchical system and simple hierarchical system). Through this comparison, we determined that the transmission processing time is reduced by 49%-50% compared to other systems, and the maximum number of connectable devices can be increased by 16-32 times without compromising the system's operations.

As the fourth industrial revolution, in which people, objects, and information are connected as one, various fields such as smart energy, smart cities, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, unmanned cars, and robot industries are becoming the mainstream, drawing attention to big data. Among them, Smart Grid is a technology that maximizes energy efficiency by converging information and communication technologies into the power grid to establish a smart grid that can know electricity usage, supply volume, and power line conditions. Smart meters are equient that monitors and communicates power usage. We start with the goal of building a virtual smart grid and constructing a virtual environment in which real-time data is generated to accommodate large volumes of data that are small in capacity but regularly generated. A major role is given in creating a software/hardware architecture deployment environment suitable for the system for test operations. It is necessary to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the software according to the characteristics of the collected data and select sub-projects suitable for the purpose. The collected data was collected/loaded/processed/analyzed by the Hadoop ecosystem-based big data platform, and used to predict power demand through deep learning.
With the advancement of intelligent vehicles and unmanned systems, there is a growing interest in underwater surveys using autonomous marine vehicles (AMVs). This study presents an automated planning strategy for a long-term survey mission using a fleet of AMVs consisting of autonomous surface vehicles and autonomous underwater vehicles. Due to the complex nature of the mission, the actions of the vehicle must be of high-level abstraction, which means that the actions indicate not only motion of the vehicle but also symbols and semantics, such as those corresponding to deploy, charge, and survey. For automated planning, the planning domain definition language (PDDL) was employed to construct a mission planner for realizing a powerful and flexible planning system. Despite being able to handle abstract actions, such high-level planners have difficulty in efficiently optimizing numerical objectives such as obtaining the shortest route given multiple destinations. To alleviate this issue, a widely known technique in operations research was additionally employed, which limited the solution space so that the high-level planner could devise efficient plans. For a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed method, various PDDL-based planners with different parameter settings were implemented, and their performances were compared through simulation. The simulation result shows that the proposed method outperformed the baseline solutions by yielding plans that completed the missions more quickly, thereby demonstrating the efficacy of the proposed methodology.
Due to the restriction of movement caused by the Corona epidemic and the expansion of the "big face" through human distance, the "unmanned system" based on artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things has been widely used in modern life. "Self-driving," one of the transportation systems based on artificial technology, has taken the initiative in the transportation system as the spread of Corona has begun. Self-driving technology eliminates unnecessary contact and saves time and manpower, which can significantly impact current and future transportation. Accidents may occur, however, due to the performance of self-driving technology during transportation albeit the U.S. allows ordinary people to drive automatically through experimental operations, and the product liability law will resolve the dispute. Self-driving has become popular in the U.S. after the experimental stage, and in the event of a self-driving accident, product liability should be applied to protect drivers from complicated self-driving disputes. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether disputes caused by defects in ordinary cars can be resolved through arbitration through U.S. precedents and to investigate whether disputes caused by defects in autonomous cars can be arbitrated.

After 'emphasizing the development of the precision reconnaissance drone' in 2021, North Korea unveiled two strategic drones in July 2023, just two years later. Despite the majority of experts offering negative assessments and stating that "the performance may not be good," North Korea can be seen as having not only enhanced its routine surveillance capabilities through strategic drones but also possessing limited long-range strike capabilities. In other words, although the performance of North Korea's strategic unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), namely the 'Satbyol-4' and '9' models, may not match that of U.S. drones, they appear to play a significant role in offsetting North Korea's considerable aerial and surveillance inferiority compared to the joint forces of South Korea and the United States. Based on these trends, North Korea seems to be concentrating on drone development to counterbalance its considerable aerial power and surveillance capabilities deficit compared to the joint forces of South Korea and the United States, especially as the global use of drones continues to increase.
