The Choijin Lama Temple is a representative example of 19th- to 20th-century architecture. The temple has been damaged by various development pressures and the effect of a harsh continental climate. This study digitalized the entire temple site using three-dimensional scanning to establish the basic data of conservational management and monitoring for spatial changes. A terrestrial laser scanning model of the temple was completed, which showed low registering error vectors (3.73 mm average) and dense point distances. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry was also applied to verify its applicability to the spatial and environmental monitoring of the temple. The results showed that the overall point density of the UAV photogrammetry model is similar within a 10 mm resolution. The relatively low RMSE of UAV photogrammetry from the ground to the uppermost roof indicates the high applicability of integrating it with the terrestrial laser scanning model. The digital documentation of the Choijin Lama Temple is expected to have a great ripple effect on the documentation, conservation, and utilization of Mongolian cultural heritage sites.

The main goal of this paper is to assess application of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) remote sensing and GIS based images in detection and measuring of rice field drought area in South Korea. Drought is recurring feature of the climatic events, which often hit South Korea, bringing significant water shortages, local economic losses and adverse social consequences. This paper describes the assesment of the near-realtime drought damage monitoring and reporting system for the agricultural drought region. The system is being developed using drought-related vegetation characteristics, which are derived from UAV remote sensing data. The study area is $3.07km^2$ of Wonbuk-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungnam in South Korea. UAV images were acquired three times from July 4 to October 29, 2015. Three images of the same test site have been analysed by object-based image classification technique. Drought damaged paddy rices reached $754,362m^2$, which is 47.1 %. The NongHyeop Agricultural Damage Insurance accepted agricultural land of 4.6 % ($34,932m^2$). For paddy rices by UAV investigation, the drought monitoring and crop productivity was effective in improving drought assessment method.

The application area based on UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is continuously increasing as time passing by. In particular the UAVs which consist of more than four horizontal propellers and the functionality of VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) are utilized in diverse platforms and application products due to their safety and aerodynamically simpler design and architectures. Most UAV missions are controlled by GCSs(Ground Control System). The GCSs are generally connected to the internet and get electrical map and environmental information such as temperature, humidity, wind direction and so on. In this paper, we design a system that UAV has capability of approaching to a certain ship and monitoring her efficiently by using AIS(Auto Identification System) information.
The purpose of this study is to show the possibility of 3-dimensional modeling of open-pit limestone mine by using a rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle, a drone, and to estimate the amount of mining before and after mining of limestone by explosive blasting. Analysis of the image duplication of the mine has shown that it is possible to achieve high image quality. Analysis of each axis error at the shooting position after analyzing the distortions through camera calibration was shown the allowable range. As a result of estimating the amount of mining before and after explosive blasting, it was possible to estimate the amount of mining of a wide range quickly and accurately in a relatively short time. In conclusion, it is considered that the drone of a rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle can be usefully used for the monitoring of open-pit limestone mines and the estimation of the amount of mining. Furthermore, it is expected that this method will be utilized for periodic monitoring of construction sites and road slopes as well as open-pit mines in the future.

In this era, intelligence is considered a major factor in the defense sector. As a result, securing technology for weapons systems for monitoring and reconnaissance of companies has become inevitable. As a result, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) have been developed and are actively operating around the world if the flight operation of manned aircraft is restricted, such as in environments that are too dangerous, messy or boring for the military to perform directly. The system of unmanned aerial vehicles, which has been researched and developed in Korea, includes Air Vehicle Test Equipment(AVTE). AVTE is equipment that is connected to an UAV to check its status and allows the operator to check its flightability by issuing an operational command to the UAV and verifying that it follows the command values. This study conducts fault finding on the phenomenon where the AVTE has stopped operating due to engine noise during these operations and analyzes the cause in terms of software, hardware and external environment. Present improvement measures according to the cause are analyzed and the results of verifying that the proposed measures can prevent failure are addressed.
In this paper, we propose a security framework for a cluster drones network using the MAVLink (Micro Air Vehicle Link) application protocol based on FANET (Flying Ad-hoc Network), which is composed of ad-hoc networks with multiple drones for IoT services such as remote sensing or disaster monitoring. Here, the drones belonging to the cluster construct a FANET network acting as WTRP (Wireless Token Ring Protocol) MAC protocol. Under this network environment, we propose an efficient algorithm applying the Lightweight Encryption Algorithm (LEA) to the CTR (Counter) operation mode of WPA2 (WiFi Protected Access 2) to encrypt the transmitted data through the MAVLink application. And we study how to apply LEA based on CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) operation mode used in WPA2 for message security tag generation. In addition, a modified Diffie-Hellman key exchange method is approached to generate a new key used for encryption and security tag generation. The proposed method and similar methods are compared and analyzed in terms of efficiency.

Pine wilt disease occurred for the first time in Busan in 1988 and the damage has since been increasing. In 2005, a special law was enacted for pine wilt disease by Korea Forest Service. Incidences relating to the forest pest had been frequent and chemical control as well as physical control techniques had been applied to control it. Therefore, there is a need to reduce the damage caused by the pine wilt disease through intensive management such as continuous monitoring, control, and monitoring based on active control as well as management measures. In this study, the UAV-based monitoring method was proposed as an economical way of monitoring the forest pest. The efficiency of the existing method and UAV method had been analyzed, and as a result the study suggested that UAV can be used for forest pest monitoring and indeed improve efficiency. The UAV-based forest pest monitoring method has a cost reduction of about 50% compared with the conventional method and will also help to reduce the area where the survey was omitted.

In this paper, new tethered aerial robots including roaming tethered aerial robots (RTARs) for radioactive material sampling and stationary tethered aerial robots (STARs) for environment monitoring are proposed to meet extremely-long-endurance missions of nuclear power plants. The flight of the proposed tethered aerial robots may last for a few days or even a few months as long as the tethered cable provides continuous power. A high voltage AC or DC power system was newly adopted to reduce the mass of the tethered cable. The RTAR uses a tethered cable spooled from the aerial robot and an aerial tension control system. The aerial tension control system provides the appropriate tension to the tethered cable, which is accordingly laid down on the ground as the RTAR roams. The STAR includes a tethered cable spooled from the ground and a ground tension control system, which enables the STAR to reach high altitudes. Prototypes of the RTAR and STAR were designed and successfully demonstrated in outdoor environments, where the load power, power type, operating frequency, and flight attitude of the RTAR and STAR were: 180 W, AC 100 kHz, and 20 m; and 300 W, AC or DC 100 kHz, and 80 m, respectively.
In this paper, we classified a flight pattern of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) which will be operating in UTM system and analyzed its flight pattern by purpose of use. Flight patterns of UAV are sorted into three patterns which are circling, monitoring and delivery. We considered four cases of industry areas using UAV which are agriculture, infrastructure monitoring, public safety & security(p.s.s) and delivery. It is necessary to build a simulation model as a verification tool for applying the flight pattern according to the use of UAV to the real UTM system. Therefore, we propose the simulation model of UAV with updating states over time. We applied simulation to UAV monitoring flight pattern, and confirmed that the flight was done by the given input data. The simulation model will be used in the future to verify that the UAV has various flight patterns and can operate safely and efficiently for the intended use.
As large scaled natural or man-made disasters being increased, the demand for rapid responses for such emergent situations also has been ever-increasing. These responses need to acquire spatial information of each individual site rapidly for more effective management of the situations. Therefore, we are developing a close-range real-time aerial monitoring system based on a low altitude unmanned helicopter. This system can acquire airborne sensory data in real-time and generate rapidly geospatial information. The system consists of two main parts: aerial and ground parts. The aerial part includes an aerial platform equipped with multi-sensor(cameras, a laser scanner, a GPS receiver, an IMU) and sensor supporting modules. The ground part includes a ground vehicle, a receiving system to receive sensory data in real-time and a processing system to generate the geospatial information rapidly. Development and testing of the individual modules and subsystems have been almost completed. Integration of the modules and subsystems is now in progress. In this paper, we w ill introduce our system, explain intermediate results, and discuss expected outcome.
