Among the activities of 3GPP for operating 5G-based unmanned aerial vehicles, we introduce several use cases of UAVs in 5G mobile communication such as radio access node onboard UAV, simultaneous support data transmission for UAVs and eMBB users, autonomous UAVs controlled by AI, isolated deployment of radio access through UAV, and separation of UAV service area. From this, we further summarize 5G mobile communication requirements for UAVs, including definition and operational criteria of UAS, UAS remote identification requirements, UAS usage requirements, and performance requirements. Finally, regarding 5G mobile communication-based UAS connectivity, identification and tracking support, we discuss the 3GPP UAV architecture, seven major problems, the proposed solutions to each problem, and propose the results for future specification work.
Recent advancements in autonomous flight technologies for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have greatly expanded their applicability for various tasks, including delivery, agriculture, and rescue. This article presents a comprehensive survey of path planning techniques in autonomous navigation and exploration that are tailored for UAVs. The robotics literature has studied path and motion planning, from basic obstacle avoidance to sophisticated algorithms capable of dynamic decision-making in challenging environments. In this article, we introduce popular path and motion planning approaches such as grid-based, sampling-based, and optimization-based planners. We further describe the contributions from the state-of-the-art in exploration planning for UAVs, which have been derived from these well-studied planners. Recent research, including the method we are developing, has improved performance in terms of efficiency and scalability for exploration tasks in challenging environments without human intervention. On the basis of these research and development trends, this article discusses future directions in UAV path planning technologies, illustrating the potential for UAVs to perform complex tasks with increased autonomy and efficiency.

The collision-free flight planning method based on the extended collision map is proposed for cooperation of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a common 3-dimensional workspace. First, a UAV is modeled as a sphere, taking its 3-D motions such as rolling into consideration. We assume that after entering the common workspace, the UAVs move along their straight paths until they depart from the workspace, and that the priorities of the UAVs are determined in advance. According to the assumptions, the collision detection problem between two spheres in $R^3$ can be reduced into the collision detection problem between a circle and a line in $R^2$. For convenience' sake and safety, the collision regions are approximated by collision boxes. Using the collision boxes, the entrance times of the UAVs are scheduled for collision avoidance among the UAVs. By this way, all UAVs can move in the common workspace without collisions with one another. For verifying the effectiveness of the proposed flight planning method, the simulation with 12 UAVs is carried out.

Currently, the operation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is regulated to be able to fly only within the visible range, but in recent years, the needs for operation in the invisible area, in the urban area and at night have increased. In order to operate UAVs in the invisible area, at night, and in the urban area, a flight path for UAVs must be prepared like those operated by manned aircraft, and for this, it is necessary to establish an unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM). In order to establish the UTM, information on the minimum separation distance to prevent collisions with UAVs and buildings is required, and accordingly, information on the navigation performance of UAVs is required. In order to analyze the navigation performance of an UAV, total system error (TSE), which is the difference between the planned flight path and the actual location of the UAV, is required. If the collected data are insufficient and classification according to integrity, independence, and direction is not performed, accurate navigation performance is not derived. In this paper, propose a navigation performance analysis method of UAV that is derived TSE using flight data and modeled with normal distribution, analyze performance.
This letter proposes a tapered stacked microstrip antenna for application in small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which has advantages in mountainous terrains. With its tapered structure and increased bandwidth designed to operate at the resonance frequency of 2.4 GHz, the proposed antenna improves directivity, accuracy, and precision of small UAVs. The test flight results show the proposed tapered antenna has a three times higher impedance capability of 350 MHz based on VSWR<2. The transmission pattern is also more reliable than that of previous antenna designs.

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) refer to the aircraft which carries no human pilot and is operated under remote control or in autonomous operational mode. As the UAVs can perform the dull, dangerous and difficult missions, various kinds of UAVs with different sizes and weights have been developed and operated for both civil and military application. As the avionics and communication technology related to the UAVs are matured, the demand for the UAVs is dramatically increased. Therefore, It is important to develope airworthiness process and regulations of the UAVs to minimize related risk to the man and environment. This paper describes related regulations and classification of the small UAVs for different international airworthiness authorities. The analysis of the CS-LURS verses Stanag 4702 and Stanag 4703 can provide guidelines for the generation of the airworthiness certification criteria for the small UAVs in civil sector. This paper conducted kinetic impact energy analysis of the loss of the small UAVs control scenarios and of the very small UAVs under 66 joules. Based on the analysis, the energy impact analysis can be considered before the design certification approval for the small UAVs.

This paper presents an algorithm for planning waypoints for the operation of a surveillance mission using cooperative unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a given map. This algorithm is rather simple and intuitive; therefore, this algorithm is easily applied to actual scenarios as well as easily handled by operators. It is assumed that UAVs do not possess complete information about targets; therefore, kinematics, intelligence, and so forth of the targets are not considered when the algorithm is in operation. This assumption is reasonable since the algorithm is solely focused on a surveillance mission. Various parameters are introduced to make the algorithm flexible and adjustable. They are related to various cost functions, which is the main idea of this algorithm. These cost functions consist of certainty of map, waypoints of co-worker UAVs, their own current positions, and a level of interest. Each cost function is formed by simple and intuitive equations, and features are handled using the aforementioned parameters.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) research is recently actively underway. Especially, fuel cell battery hybrid systems are widely used to overcome the limitations of continuous operation. However, fuel cell systems must be operated in combination with a battery due to their low specific output characteristics. Therefore, a hybrid power system model for UAVs is developed. The rule-based strategy is applied to the model to properly distribute power to batteries and fuel cells. As a result, the designed rule-based power distribution control operates UAVs while maintaining battery state of charge(SOC) at an appropriate level.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are a new and yet constantly developing part of forest inventory studies and vegetation-monitoring fields. Covering large areas, their extensive usage has saved time and money for researchers and conservationists to survey vegetation for various data analyses. Post-processing imaging software has improved the effectiveness of UAVs further by providing 3D models for accurate visualization of the data. We focus on determining the coniferous tree coverage to show the current advantages and disadvantages of the orthorectified 2D and 3D models obtained from the image photogrammetry software, Pix4Dmapper Pro-Non-Commercial. We also examine the methodology used for mapping the study site, additionally investigating the spread of coniferous trees. The collected images were transformed into 2D black and white binary pixel images to calculate the coverage area of coniferous trees in the study site using MATLAB. The research was able to conclude that the 3D model was effective in perceiving the tree composition in the designated site, while the orthorectified 2D map is appropriate for the clear differentiation of coniferous and deciduous trees. In its conclusion, the paper will also be able to show how UAVs could be improved for future usability.
An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is a powered pilotless aircraft, which is controlled remotely or autonomously. UAVs are an attractive alternative for many scientific and military organizations. UAVs can perform operations that are considered to be risky or uninhabitable for humans. UAVs are currently employed in many military missions and a number of civilian applications. For accomplishing the UAV's missions, guarantee of survivability should be preceded. The main objective of this study is to suggest a mathematical programming model and a $A^*PS$_PGA (A-star with Post Smoothing_Parallel Genetic Algorithm) for Multiple UAVs's path planning to maximize survivability. A mathematical programming model is composed by using MRPP (Most Reliable Path Problem) and MTSP (Multiple Traveling Salesman Problem). After transforming MRPP into Shortest Path Problem (SPP),$A^*PS$_PGA applies a path planning for multiple UAVs.
