Effect of BPA and Nicotine on In Vitro Maturation of Porcine Oocytes (BPA 및 Nicotine 첨가가 돼지 난자의 체외 성숙에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 연구는 BPA 및 nicotine 첨가 농도와 배양 시간이 돼지 난자의 체외성숙에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. $0.02{\sim}10.0mM$ BPA와 $0.5{\sim}10.0mM$ nicotine이 첨가된 TCM-199배양액에서 $40{\sim}52$시간 난자를 배양했을 때 체외성 숙율을 조사하였다. BPA농도가 높을수록 체외성숙율이 유의적으로 낮게 나타났다. $0.05{\sim}10.0nM$ BPA를 첨가한 TCM-199 배양액에서 난자를 44시간 배양했을 때 체외성숙율은 각각 $40.0{\pm}4.1%,\;24.0{\pm}4.7%,\;10.0{\pm}5.3%,\;6.0{\pm}3.2%,\;0.0{\pm}0.0%$로서 첨가 농도가 증가할수록 낮은 체외성숙율을 나타냈다. 난자를 $0.5{\pm}10.0mM$ nicotine를 첨가한 TCM-199 배양액에서 44시간 배양했을 때 체외성숙율은 각각 $44.0{\pm}4.5%,\;24.0{\pm}4.2%,\;18.0{\pm}4.9%,\;8.0{\pm}2.2%,\;0.0{\pm}0.0%$로서 대조군$(52.0{\pm}4.5%)$에 비해 낮은 체외성숙율을 나타냈다. 난자를 0.5 nM BPA와 2.5 mM nicotine을 첨가한 TCM-199에서 $40{\sim}52$시간 배양했을 때 체외성숙율은 $8.3{\pm}2.1%{\sim}26.0{\pm}3.9%$$11.2{\pm}2.2%{\sim}28.6{\pm}3.9%$로서, 44시간 배양이 다른 배양시간보다 가장 높은 체외성숙율을 나타냈다.

The Effects of Ag Addition on the Electrode Properties of Hydrogen Storage Alloys (Zr계 수소저장합금의 전극특성에 미치는 은 첨가의 영향)

  • The effects of Ag addition to Zr-based hydrogen storage alloys ($Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}$, $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Cr_{0.1}$ and $Zr_{0.6}Ti_{0.4}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Fe_{0.1}$) on the electrode properties were examined. Ag-free and Ag-added Ze-based alloys were prepared by arc melting, crushed mechanically, and subjected to the electrochemical measurement. In $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}$ alloy, 0.08 wt% Ag addition to the alloy improved the activation rate. Also Ag addition improved both activation property and discharge capacity in $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Cr_{0.1}$. For these Ag-added alloys, discharge capacities with the change of charge-discharge current density(10mA, 15mA and 30mA) are almost constant. Showing very high rate capability, discharge capacity of $Zr_{0.6}Ti_{0.4}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Fe_{0.1}$ alloy increased by Ag addition to the alloy. When the amount of Ag addition in $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}$ alloy increased too much, the electrode properties became worse. Unveiling mechanism of effect of Ag addition is now progressing in our laboratory.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of X Ba0-$0.15(Nd_{0.87}Bi_{0.13})_2O_3$-(0.85-X) $TiO_2$ ($X=0.13{\sim}0.17$) and 0.16Ba0-$0.15(Bi_xNd_{1-x})_2O_3-0.69TiO_2$ ($X=0.10{\sim}0.16$) ceramics were investigated. Dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of 0.16Ba0-$0.15(Nd_{0.87}Bi_{0.13})_2O_3-0.69TiO_2$ ceramics sintered at $1320^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours were 89.2, 1920(at 4GHz) and 5.2ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Meta-analysis of Associations between the MDM2-T309G Polymorphism and Prostate Cancer Risk

  • The mouse double minute 2 (MDM2) gene plays a key role in the p53 pathway, and the SNP 309T/G single-nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter region of MDM2 has been shown to be associated with increased risk of cancer. However, no consistent results were found concerning the relationships between the polymorphism and prostate cancer risk. This meta-analysis, covering 4 independent case-control studies, was conducted to better understand the association between MDM2-SNP T309G and prostate cancer risk focusing on overall and subgroup aspects. The analysis revealed, no matter what kind of genetic model was used, no significant association between MDM2-SNP T309G and prostate cancer risk in overall analysis (GT/TT: OR = 0.84, 95%CI = 0.60-1.19; GG/TT: OR = 0.69, 95%CI = 0.43-1.11; dominant model: OR = 0.81, 95%CI= 0.58-1.13; recessive model: OR = 1.23, 95%CI = 0.95-1.59). In subgroup analysis, the polymorphism seemed more likely to be a protective factor in Europeans (GG/TT: OR = 0.52, 95%CI = 0.31-0.87; recessive model: OR = 0.58, 95%CI = 0.36-0.95) than in Asian populations, and a protective effect of the polymorphism was also seen in hospital-based studies in all models (GT/TT: OR = 0.74, 95%CI = 0.57-0.97; GG/TT: OR = 0.55, 95%CI = 0.38-0.79; dominant model: OR = 0.69, 95%CI = 0.54-0.89; recessive model: OR = 0.70, 95%CI = 0.51-0.97). However, more primary studies with a larger number of samples are required to confirm our findings.

  • The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of $Gd_{1-x}Ce_xAl_2$ (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) intermetallic compounds alloys have been investigated in detail for the first time. XRD patterns indicated that all the samples were crystallized in a single phase with $MgCu_2$-type structure (Laves phase). Ce substitution for Gd increased the lattice parameters and decreased the Curie temperature from 163 K for x = 0 to 37 K for x = 0.75. A maximum entropy change of 3.82 J/kg K was observed when a 2 T magnetic field was applied to the x = 0 sample. This entropy change decreased with increasing Ce content to 2.04 J/kg K for the x = 0.75 sample.

Three Crystal Structures of Dehydrated $Cd^{2+}$ and $Rb^+$ Exchanged Zeolite A, $Cd_xRb_{12-2x}-A,$ x=4.0, 5.0 and 5.95

  • Three crystal structures of dehydrated Cd(II) and Rb(I) exchanged zeolite A, $Cd_{4.0}Rb_{4.0}-A (a = 12.204(3) {\AA}), Cd_{5.0}Rb_{2.0}-A (a = 12.202(1) {\AA}),$ and $Cd_{5.95}Rb_{0.1}-A (a = 12.250(2) {\AA}),$ have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Their structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C.$ All crystals were ion exchanged in flowing streams of mixed $Cd(NO_3)_2·4H_2O$ and $RbNO_3$ aqueous solution with total concentration of 0.05 M. All crystals were dehydrated at ca. $450^{\circ}C$ and $2×10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days. In all of these structures, $Cd^{2+}$ ions are found on threefold axes, each nearly at the center of a 6-oxygen ring. The first three $Rb^+$ ions per unit cell preferentially associate with 8-oxygen rings, and additional $Rb^+$ ions, if present, are found on threefold axes in the large cavity. The final $R_1$ and $R_2$ values for the three structures are 0.087 and 0.079, 0.059 and 0.067, and 0.079 and 0.095, respectively.

Antimicrobial and anti-gingivitis effect of chewing gum containing grapefruit seed extract and xylitol (자몽종자추출물과 자일리톨이 배합된 껌의 치은염 예방 및 항균효과)

  • Grapefruit seed extract has been reported to have antimicrobial effect. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial and anti-gingivitis effect of chewing gum containing grapefruit seed extract and xylitol. 40 healthy subjects with gingivitis or early periodontitis were divided into two groups. Subjects in the experimental group chewed gum containing grapefruit seed extract and xylitol while subjects in the control group chewed gum containing only xylitol. All subjects received scaling and tooth brushing instruction. 1 week after scaling was set as baseline. Gingival index and plaque index were scored at baseline, 1 week, 2 week, 3 week and 4 week. Bleeding index, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level were scored at baseline, 2 week and 4 week. The number of total bacteria and Streptococcus mutans in unstimulated saliva of experimental group were counted at 1 week, 2 week, 3 week and 4 week. Gingival indices of experimental group and control group at baseline, 1 week, 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 0.850${\pm}$0.298, 0.575${\pm}$0.345, 0.533${\pm}$0.332, 0.459${\pm}$0.311, 0.408${\pm}$0.224 and 0.758${\pm}$0.379, 0.592${\pm}$0.276, 0.563${\pm}$0.281, 0.454${\pm}$0.194, 0.413${\pm}$0.199 (mean${\pm}$SD), respectively. Plaque indices of experimental group and control group at baseline, 1 week. 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 0.497${\pm}$0.500, 0.375${\pm}$0.484, 0.332${\pm}$0.471, 0,286${\pm}$0.452, 0.210${\pm}$0.407 and 0.411${\pm}$0.492, 0.375${\pm}$0.484, 0.354${\pm}$0.479, 0.313${\pm}$0.463, 0.193${\pm}$0.395, respectively. Bleeding indices of experimental group and control group at baseline, 2 week and 4 week were 0.377${\pm}$0.177, 0.298${\pm}$0.152, 0.192${\pm}$0.108 and 0.383${\pm}$0.124, 0.318${\pm}$0.153, 0.225${\pm}$0.126, respectively. Probing pocket depth of experimental group and control group at baseline, 2 week and 4 week were 2.56${\pm}$1.00, 2.40${\pm}$0.65, 2.23${\pm}$0.64 and 2.45${\pm}$0.682.37${\pm}$0.57, 2.19${\pm}$0.57, respectively. Clinical attachment level of experimental group and control group at baseline, 2 week and 4 week were 2.58${\pm}$1.01, 2.43${\pm}$0.67, 2.26${\pm}$0.65 and 2.49${\pm}$0.70, 2.40${\pm}$0.59, 2.22${\pm}$0.62, respectively. The % of reduction of total bacteria in saliva of experimental group at 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 46 ${\pm}$ 53%, 53 ${\pm}$ 5% and 69 ${\pm}$ 33%. The % of reduction of Streptococcus mutans count in saliva of experimental group at 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 52${\pm}$69%, 88${\pm}$30% and 89${\pm}$17%. From these findings, it can be concluded that regular use of grapefruit seed extract /xylitol chewing gum may be effective to control and prevent gingivitis and may have caries-preventive effect.

  • We investigated the dielectric relaxation properties $0.5Ba(Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.8})O_3-0.5(Ba_{0.7}Ca_{0.3})TiO_3$ ceramics with CuO addition. With increasing CuO addition, the lattice parameter was increased by substitution of small amount $Cu^{2+}$ ion in B-site of $0.5Ba(Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.8})O_3-0.5(Ba_{0.7}Ca_{0.3})TiO_3$ ceramics. Also the grain size and the maximum dielectric constant of $0.5Ba(Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.8})O_3-0.5(Ba_{0.7}Ca_{0.3})TiO_3$ ceramics was decreased with increasing amounts of CuO addition. Moreover, the diffused phase transition properties (${\gamma}$) of $0.5Ba(Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.8})O_3-0.5(Ba_{0.7}Ca_{0.3})TiO_3$ ceramics was increased by compositional fluctuation with increasing of CuO amount, changed from 1.45 at 1 wt% CuO addition to 1.94 at 7 wt% CuO addition.

Comparative Analysis of Three Subgroups in Stage II Stomach Cancer (제2기 위암에서 3 Subgroup간의 비교 분석)

  • Purpose: Three subgroups of stage II stomach cancer (T1N2M0, T2N1M0, T3N0M0) by UICC-TNM staging system show obvious survival difference to each other, which becomes the pitfall of the current staging system. We analyzed the survival and relapse pattern of stage II stomach cancer patients in three subgroups retrospectively to prove the need for change in staging system. Materials and Methods: From July 1989 to December 1995, curative gastric resection was performed in 1,037 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, and among them 268 patients ($26\%$) were in stage II. The number in each of subgroups (T1N2M0, T2N1M0, and T3N0M0) were 17, 139 and 112 respectively. Survival and relapse pattern were analyzed and median follow up period was 46 months. Results: The 3-year cumulative survival rates of T1N2M0, T2N1M0, and T3N0M0 were $50\%,\;80\%,\;and\;76\%$ respectively (p=0.001). And the 3-year cumulative survival rates of T1N2M0 was comparable to those of 2 subgroups of stage IIIa (T2N2M0, T3N1M0), $47\%\;and\;45\%$ (p>0.05). Peritoneal recurrence was the most frequent in T3N0M0. And hematogenous spread was more frequent in T2N1M0 while nodal spread was more frequent in T1N2M0. Ten out of 17 cases of T1N2M0 died of recurrence. Most of them showed submucosal tumor with depressed lesion and mean tumor size was 3.3 cm. Conclusions: Up-staging of T1N2M0 should be considered because it has the lowest survival rate and the worst prognosis among the three subgroups of Stage II stomach cancer patients. In early gastric cancer patients with high-risk factors (large tumor size, invasion into the submucosal layer, and lymphatic vessel involvement), lymph node dissection and postoperative adjuvant therapy is recommended in an attempt to prevent recurrence in the form of lymph node metastasis.

An important factor for the water gas shift reaction activity of Cu-loaded cubic Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 catalysts

  • The Cu loading of a cubic $Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$-supported Cu catalyst was optimized for a single-stage water gas shift (WGS) reaction. The catalyst was prepared by a co-precipitation method, and the WGS reaction was performed at a gas hourly space velocity of $150,494h^{-1}$. The results revealed that an 80 wt% $Cu-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic performance and 100% $CO_2$ selectivity ($X_{CO}=27%$ at $240^{\circ}C$ for 100 h). The high activity of 80 wt% $Cu-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalyst is attributed to the presence of abundant surface Cu atoms and the low activation energy of the resultant process.
