  • Malaria is a major cause of death in tropical and sub-tropical countries, killing each year over 1 million people globally; 90% of fatalities occur in African children. Although effective ways to manage malaria now exist, the number of malaria cases is still increasing, due to several factors. In this emergency situation, prompt and effective diagnostic methods are essential for the management and control of malaria. Traditional methods for diagnosing malaria remain problematic; therefore, new technologies have been developed and introduced to overcome the limitations. This review details the currently available diagnostic methods for malaria.

  • In this paper, we consider confidence limits for steady state availability of a redundant structure with the function of switchover processing. The system considered in this paper consists of three units which are an active unit, a standby unit and a switchover device. A control module does not affect the performance of the system while the active unit is operating but causes the system failure if the active unit fails at the failure of the control module. The effect of failure of control module is included in our reliability model of the simple redundant structure. The availability of the system is obtained by using the state space method. An example is given to illustrate our results.

  • The optimum polymer gel electrolyte composition ratio was 23 : 66 : 11 wt% of P(VdF-co-HFP) : PVP =20 : 3), (PC: EC =44 : 22) and TEABF$_4$. And the optimal thickness of polymer gel electrolyte was 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The electrochemical characteristics result of unit cell were 31.41 Fig of specific capacitance, and 3.21$\times$10$^{-3}$ S/cm of ion conductivity. Ion conductivity of polymer gel electrolytes decreased according to added PVP through impedance analysis, and it was higher in 7 wt%, but electrochemical characteristics of unit cell were better in 3 wt% PVP. And for excellent ion conductivity of polymer gel electrolytes, the use of a thin layer electrolyte(20 $\mu\textrm{m}$) was an effective method, but with unit cell application, the best thickness was 50 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Unit cell showed higher capacitance and more stable electrochemical performance when hot pressed between polymer gel electrolyte and electrode. This results from enhancement of the physical contact between the electrode and the polymer gel electrolyte and good accessibility of the liquid electrolyte to the electrode surface.

  • This study is concerned with the reduction of noise radiation by an industrial fan unit. Among the noise sources involved in the fan unit, this article is focused on the noise source due to vibration of panels of the unit housing. It is shown here that noise radiation associated with the panel vibration can be as significant in some frequency ranges as that associated with other noise sources such as aeroacoustic fan noise.

  • This paper deals with feedback control of a hydraulic unit for direct yaw moment control, a method used to actively maintain the dynamic stability of an automobile. The uncertain parameters and complex structure naturally call for empirical modeling of the hydraulic unit, which readily results in a control-oriented model with high fidelity. The identified model is cross-validated against experimental data under various conditions, which helps to establish model uncertainty. Then, the $H_{\infty}$ optimization technique is employed to synthesize a controller with guaranteed robust stability and performance against the model uncertainty. The performance of the synthesized controller is verified using experimental results, which shows the viability of the proposed approach in a real-world application.

  • Since the surface temperature of the evaporating tube in an ammonia unit cooled is lower than the dew point of atmosphere, the moisture in the atmosphere condenses and the frost grows on the tube. The frost of liquid film decreases the heat transfer rate. The reliable analysis of the heat transfer is required for the prediction of the optimal design of the ammonia unit cooler. For the specific commercial model, the performance was numerical1y estimated for the variation of operating condition and geometric configuration. It is found that there exists an optimum range for the parameters such as mass flow rate of air and refrigerant, humidity, refrigerant quality, fin pitch, the number of step, the number of rows and the pattern of refrigerant path.

  • The purpose of this study was to search out an relativeness to the apartment housing unit plans and the unit plans of rural houses. Unit plans data were collected from housing registration records or field survey methods. 45 rural plans and 53 apartment plans were analyzed. The results were as follows; First, the floor planning characteristics of rural houses were 'ㅋ'type of floor plan shape, 2.5 or 3 bay arrangement, L-DK type of social space, and the front entrance. Second, the floor planning characteristics of apartment houses were '-'type of floor plan shape, 2 bay arrangement, L...DK type of social space, and the side or rear entrance. Third, 3 bay arrangement method of rural houses effected to apartment houses, and L...DK type of apartment houses effected to rural houses. Utility or balcony spaces of rural houses was inversely effected from apartment houses.

  • The fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) technology may be applied in order to decrease the energy consumption and the maintenance cost of the air conditioning system. In this study, rule bases and curve fitting models were used to detect faults in an air handling unit. Gradually progressed faults, such as the fan speed degradation, the coil water leakage, the humidifier nozzle clogging, the sensor degradation and the damper stoppage, were applied to the developed FBD system. Simulation results show good detections and diagnoses of these faults. Therefore, this method may be effectively used for the fault detection and diagnosis of the air handling unit.
