  • This paper presents a Case-Sort method to solve the unit commitment problem using database in electric power systems. The formulation of the unit commitment nay be described as nonlinear mixed integer programming. However, it is hard to optimize a problem with discrete and continuous variables in a large-scale system at the same time. The Case-Sort method is based on the unit[MW]generation cost considered drive hour. Then, this paper shows effectiveness and economical efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents only a matching algorithm based on Delaunay triangulation and Parametrization from the extracted minutiae points. This method maps local neighborhood of points of two different point sets to unit-circle using topology information by Delaunay triangulation method from feature points of real fingerprint. Then, a linked convex polygon that includes an interior point is constructed as one-ring which is mapped to unit-circle using Parametrization that keep shape preserve. In local matching, each area of polygon in unit-circle is compared. If the difference of two areas are within tolerance, two polygons are consider to be matched and then translation, rotation and scaling factors for global matching are calculated.

  • Analysis of structures which are composed of numerous repeated unit structures can be simplified by using homogenized properties. If the unit structure is repeated in one direction, the whole structure may be regarded as a beam. Once the effective stiffness is obtained from the analysis of the unit structure in a proper way, the effort for the detail modeling of the global structure is not required, and the real structure can be replaced simply with a beam. This study proposes a kinematical periodicity constraint to be imposed on the FE model of the unit structure, which improves the accuracy of the effective stiffness. The method is employed to a one dimensionally arrayed 3D structure containing periodically repeated unsymmetrical holes. It is demonstrated that the deformation behavior of the homogenized beam agrees well with that of the real structure.

  • A hydrologic and water quality monitoring network were established in the Balkan-reservoir watershed, which has 29.79 $km^2$ in size, to analyze the characteristics of pollutant loading from an agricultural small watershed. Soil type, land use, hydrologic soil group, population and livestock were also surveyed to make clear the pollutant sources and to calculate the pollutant loadings by the unit loading factor method which was proposed by the Ministry of Environment. From the 5-year hydrologic monitoring results, sub-watersheds located in the upstream of the reservoirs showed higher average runoff ratio. The calculated daily pollutant loadings by the unit loading factor method from HP#2 sub-watershed in the downstream of Balkan reservoir, were much greater than observed.

  • The proposed Novel OverDriving Technology with Optimum Look-up-Table(LUT)is suggested to be a better solution to reducing the occurrence of overshooting caused by the traditional overdriving method implemented to normally liquid crystal (VA mode). Chunghwa Picture Tubes, LTD. (CPT) has successfully implement this tech into 20 inch TFTLCD TV module at the present day. The proposed technology can speed up gray-to-gray response time of LCD less than one half of frame time. On the side, Optimum LUT construction apply the compression scheme to record total actual grayscale transfer characteristics instead of applying the normal spread method such as linear / non-linear interpolation. The memory space is been reduced and the distortion of the image quality is lesser.

  • This paper proposes a design method of a CDU(Control Display Unit) for commercial INS(Inertial Navigation Systems). In order to guarantee reusability and extendability, the design method is based on the class programming of the Windows operating system. Since the CDU has abstracted functions and variables, it can be interfaced with any INS. It is also easy to extend the designed functions using inheritance and polymorphism of the class. In order to show usefulness of the CDU, it has been implemented for the H-726 INS.

  • The objective of this research is to comparative LCA(life cycle assessment) between two different model of Electric Motor Unit(EMU).the environmental impact of Aluminum body Electric Motor Unit(EMU) and Stainless Steel(STS) body Electric Motor Unit(EMU). LCA process consists of four steps which are goal, scope definition, life cycle impact analysis(LCIA) and life cycle interpretation. ISO 14044 provides the LCA standard method which can be conducted by using comparative LCA. From the research it is foung that the Aluminium Body Electric Motor Unit (EMU) is 3.6ton heaver than Stainless Steel(STS) body Electric Motor Unit(EMU). The system boundary of both Electric Motor Unit (EMU) are same life span and travel same distance. These both Electric Motor Unit (EMU) has same kind of environmental impact which is maximum Ozone Depletion(OD). During using period of these two models, the Aluminium Body Electric Motor Unit(EMU) has more global warming(GW) effect but Stainless Steel(STS) body Electric Motor Unit(EMU) has more Ozone Depletion(OD) effect. The above result is obtained by using LCA software PASS verson 3.1.3.

  • A simple fault correction method for rotor position detection of a brushless DC(BLDC) motor with trapezoidal back EMF(electromotive force) using a Hall effect latch unit is presented. The reason why the Hall effect latch unit does not operate properly during the startup of a BLDC motor is thoroughly explained. To solve this problem, a simple code change method and its hardware implementation issues are proposed and discussed.
