  • Prediction of 3-D permeability tensor for multi-axial preform is critical to model and design the manufacturing process of composites by considering resin flow through the multi-axial fiber structure. In this study, the in-plane and transverse permeabilities for braided preform are predicted numerically. The flow analyses are calculated by using 3-D CVFEM(control volume finite element method) for macro-unit cells. To avoid checker-board pressure field and improve the efficiency of numerical computation, a new interpolation function for velocity is proposed on the basis of analytic solutions. Permeability of a braided preform is measured through unidirectional flow experiment and compared with the permeability calculated numerically. Unlike other studies, the current study is based on more realistic unit cell and prediction of permeability is improved.

  • Conceptual design of the next generation PET with both high sensitivity and high spatial resolution has been performed. A detector unit using a depth encoding scheme was designed and constructed for trial. The unit consists of four Gd$_2$SiO$\sub$5/:Ce crystal blocks in a 2x2x4 array coupled to a position-sensitive photomultiplier tube having metal channel dynodes and 4x4 multi-anodes. Our proposed detector is a very reliable and simple solution suitable for volume PET devices since the proposed depth encoding scheme does not need additional photo-detectors.

  • This paper describes a reliability/durability test of the remanufactured steering gear units. There used to be government restrictions to remanufacture certain types of automotive components regarding safety of passengers. Nevertheless, scientific approach to sustainability and remanufacturing process provided solid evidence of highly beneficial sides of reusing the products. Failure mode analysis of the steering gear unit is performed and main failure is found out. The unit is remanufactured by fixing the failure and its quality is assessed through designing a new sequence of loading events. Oil leakage is witnessed as a possible failure and its volume is measured. Conclusions based on laboratory condition durability test are given at the end.

  • In high speed railway, event recorder is essential system for analyzing the cause of train accident. It stores train operation sent by train control system in safe memory unit. Crash protected memory, the safe memory unit for event recorder, keeps the stored contents from severe environment. For crash protected memory, we have designed the architecture of concrete enclosure and controller board. Proposed system provides large volume of memory capacity and fault tolerance architecture. For checking the characteristics of proposed crash protected memory specification, the simulation is executed. Simulation results shows the designed crash protected memory meets all requirements.

  • An AS/RS construction cost minimization model under throughput rate requirement constraint has been developed, whose objective function includes S/R machine cost, storage rack cost, and interrace conveyor cost. S/R machine cost is a function of the storage rack height, the unit load weight, and the control logic used by the system, while storage rack cost is a function of the storage rack height, the weight and the volume of the unit load. Since the model is a nonlinear integer programming problem which is very hard to solve exactly with large problem size, a solution procedure is developed to determine the height and the length of the storage rack with a fixed number of S/R machines, while increasing the number of S/R machines one by one to meet the throughput rate requirement.

  • The economic and environmental friendliness analysis of the nuclear fuel cycle options that can be expected in Korea were performed. Options considered are direct disposal, reprocessing and DUPIC (Direct Use of Spent PWR Fuel In CANDU Reactors). By considering the result of calculation of the annual uranium requirement and nuclear spent fuel generation by analysis of nuclear fuel material flows in the nuclear fuel cycle options, we decided the time of back-end nuclear fuel cycle processes and the volume. Then we can analyze the economic and environmental friendliness by applying the unit cost and unit value of each process, respectively.

  • The methodology of micromechanical finite element method (MFEM) is proposed to calculate the micromechanical strains on fiber and matrix under mechanical and thermal loadings. For micromechanical analysis, composite structure is idealized the square and hexagonal unit cells. Boundary conditions are determined to calculate the effective material properties of composites and the strain magnification matrix. And they are verified by comparing with the results from multi cells, and the strain distributions of the unit cells are in accordance with those of the multi cells. Finally, the effective material properties of composite structure are obtained with respect to its fiber volume fraction and compared with results from rules-of-mixture.

  • A class of functions involving divided differences of the psi and tri-gamma functions and originating from Kershaw's double inequality are proved to be completely monotonic. As applications of these results, the monotonicity and convexity of a function involving the ratio of two gamma functions and originating from the establishment of the best upper and lower bounds in Kershaw's double inequality are derived, two sharp double inequalities involving ratios of double factorials are recovered, the probability integral or error function is estimated, a double inequality for ratio of the volumes of the unit balls in $\mathbb{R}^{n-1}$ and $\mathbb{R}^n$ respectively is deduced, and a symmetrical upper and lower bounds for the gamma function in terms of the psi function is generalized.

  • It is always necessary to high performance power supplies for the magnet system in the accelerator, especially when the number of power supplies are large. When have developed the compact power supply using switching technology instead of SCR phase control. We adopt the pulse width modulation(PWM) method with a half bridge DC/DC converter. In this way, we can make a compact system with light weight and small volume. Actual system we developed is 1.2kW, 35V/35A bipolar DC power supply current precision of +/-0.02%. It is possible to mount 10 unit in a conventional 19 rack. The built in controller has an RS422 protocol to drive 10 unit by one serial port up to 1.2km distance. If we adopt RS485 protocol, one serial port can control 32 power supplies. In this paper, we will report the design and performance of the prototype power supply.

  • To determine the optimum pressurizer water level during normal operation for Kori unit 1, performance and safety analysis are peformed. The methodology is developed by evaluating "decrease in secondary heat removal" events such as Loss of Normal Feedwater accident. To demonstrate optimum pressurizer level setpoint, RETRAN-03 code is used for performance analysis. Analysis results of RETRAN following reactor trip are compared with the actual plant data to justify RETRAN code modelling, The results of performance and safety analyses show that the newly established level setpoints not only improve the performance of pressurizer during transient including reactor trip but also meet the design bases of the pressurizer volume and pressure. pressure.
