Experiments were carried out for the development of a processing method of soybean into full-fat or defatted flour, using two varieties of soybean (kwangkyo produced in Korea and Bragg produced in India) Samples were subjected to dry dehulling, size reduction and wet heat treatment processes to make soybean flours. The quality of soybean flours were evaluated, and the results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. Crude fiber content of dehulled soybean was under 3.0% which indicated satisfactory dehulling, and there was no significant difference in crude fibre content between two varieties. 2. When dehulled soybean was cracked into soy grits by a hammer mill, 98.71∼98.86% of the soy grit was in the range of 10∼18 mesh which was the optimum size of particle for quick and uniform penetration of heat into the intra-particle air spaces. 3. Moisture content of soy flour after steam treatment at 15 psig for 5 to 30 min was only 0.29∼1.68% which did not hinder the next milling operation. 4. From the color analysis of soy flours, it was observed that the dominant wavelength for all the samples are in a very narrow range from 575 to 581 nm and the color variation was from yellow to yellowish orange. Twenty to twenty five % higher reflectance was observed in the defatted flours than full fat flours. The % chroma of the defatted flour slightly increased as the duration of steaming of soy grits increased, whereas that of the full-fat flour did not. 5. The protein extractability in the defatted flour at pH 7.6 showed progressive decrease in solubility from 48.40% (Bragg), 75.20% (kwangkyo) for untreated flours to 9.75% (Bragg), 26.27% (kwangkyo) for 30 min steaming. But Kwangkyo variety showed twice higher protein extractability than Bragg variety.

Liquid urea based SCR has been used in the market to reduce NOx in the exhaust emission of the diesel engine vehicle. This system has several problems at low temperature, which are freezing below $-12^{\circ}C$, solid deposit formation in the exhaust, and difficulties in dosing system at exhaust temperature below $200^{\circ}C$. Also, it is required complicated exhaust packaging equipment and mixer due to supply uniform ammonia concentration. In order to solve these issues, solid urea, ammonium carbonate, and ammonium carbamate are selected as ammonia sources for the application of solid SCR. In this paper, basic research on reaction rate of three ammonia-transporting materials was performed. TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) and DTA (Differential Thermal Analysis) tests for these materials are carried out for various heating conditions. From the results, chemical kinetic parameters such as activation energy and frequency factor are obtained from the Arrhenius plot. Additionally, from test results of DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimeter) for these materials, chemical kinetic parameters using the Kissinger method are calculated. Activation energies of solid SCR from this experiment are compared with proper data of literature study, then obtained data of this experiment are used for the design of reactor and dosing system for candidate vehicle.
Si3N4 with 6w/o Y2O3 and 1.5w/o Al2O3 has been gas pressure sintered and its densification behavior and the effect of the sintering variables on the microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated. Densification rate was higher at temperature below 1775$^{\circ}C$ and between 187$0^{\circ}C$ and 195$0^{\circ}C$ than between 1775$^{\circ}C$ and 187$0^{\circ}C$. The faster densification at temperature between 187$0^{\circ}C$ and 195$0^{\circ}C$ was thought to be due to the increased amount of liquid phase resulting from the increased amount of Si3N4 dissolving in the liquid. $\beta$-Si3N4 and Y-disilicate at temperatures below 1775$^{\circ}C$, and only $\beta$-Si3N4 at 187$0^{\circ}C$ and above were detected by XRD analysis. Three different two-step schedules were employed to obtain sintered body with above 99% theoretical density and to investigate the effect of the sintering variables on the density, the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the sintered body. The sintered density did not change with the heating rate, and the microstructure became coarser as the temperature increased. The strength decreased with the width of $\beta$-Si3N4 grain, while the fracture toughness increased with the square root of it. A ceramic cutting tool made of the sintered body showed an uniform flank wear after the cutting test.

[ $Sr_xBa_{1-x}Nb_2O_6$ ] (SBN, $0.25{\leq}x{\leq}0.75$) ceramic is a ferroelectric material with tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) type structure, which has a high pyroelectric coefficient and a nonlinear electro-optic coefficient value. In spite of its advantages, SBN has not been investigated well compared to other ferroelectric materials with perovskite structure. In this study, SBN thin film was manufactured by ion beam sputtering technique using the prepared SBN target in $Ar/O_2$ atmosphere. SBN30 thin film of $1000{\AA}$ was pre-deposited as a seed layer on $Pt(100)/TiO_2/SiO_2/Si$ substrate followed by SBN60 deposition up to $3000{\AA}$ in thickness. As-deposited SBN60/SBN30 layer was heat-treated at different temperatures of 650, 700, 750, and $800^{\circ}C$ in air, respectively The crystallinity and orientation behavior as well as electric properties of SBN60/SBN30 multi-layer were examined. The deposited layer was uniform and the orientation was shown primarily along (001) plane from XRD pattern. There was no difference in the crystal structure with heat-treatment temperature, but the electric properties depended on the heating temperature and was the best at $750^{\circ}C$. In electric properties of Pt/SBN60/SBN30/Pt thin film capacitor prepared, the remnant polarization (2Pr) value was $15{\mu}C/cm^2$, the coercive field (Ec) 75 kV/cm, and the dielectric constant 1075, respectively.

Carbon nanotubes have drawn attention as one of the most promising emitter materials ever known not only due to their nanometer-scale radius of curvature at tip and extremely high aspect ratios but also due to their strong mechanical strength, excellent thermal conductivity, good chemical stability, etc. Some applications of CNTs as emitters, such as X-ray tubes and microwave amplifiers, require high current emission over a small emitter area. The field emission for high current density often damages CNT emitters by Joule heating, field evaporation, or electrostatic interaction. In order to endure the high current density emission, CNT emitters should be optimally fabricated in terms of material properties and morphological aspects: highly crystalline CNT materials, low gas emission during electron emission in vacuum, optimal emitter distribution density, optimal aspect ratio of emitters, uniform emitter height, strong emitter adhesion onto a substrate, etc. We attempted a novel approach to fabricate CNT emitters to meet some of requirements described above, including highly crystalline CNT materials, low gas emission, and strong emitter adhesion. In this study, CNT emitters were fabricated by filtrating an aqueous suspension of highly crystalline thin multiwalled CNTs (Hanwha Nanotech Inc.) through a metal mesh. The metal mesh served as a support and fixture frame of CNT emitters. When 5 ml of the CNT suspension was engaged in filtration through a 400 mesh, the CNT layers were formed to be as thick as the mesh at the mesh openings. The CNT emitter sample of $1{\times}1\;cm^2$ in size was characteristic of the turn-on electrical field of 2.7 V/${\mu}m$ and the current density of 14.5 mA at 5.8 V/${\mu}m$ without noticeable deterioration of emitters. This study seems to provide a novel fabrication route to simply produce small-size CNT emitters for high current emission with reliability.
The behaviour of alloys in the semi-solid state strongly depends on the imposed stress state and on the morphology of the phase which can vary from dendritic to globular. To optimal net shape forging of semi-solid materials, it is important to investigate for filling phenomena in forging process of arbitrarily shaped dies. To produce a automotive part which has good mechanical property, the filling pattern according to die velocity and solid fraction distribution has to be estimated for arbitrarily shaped dies. Therefore, the estimation of filling characteristic in the forging simulation with arbitrarily shaped dies of semi-solid materials are calculated by finite element method with proposed algorithm. The proposed theoretical model and a various boundary conditions for arbitrarily shaped dies is investigated with the coupling calculation between the liquid phase flow and the solid phase deformation. The simulation process with arbitrarily shaped dies is performed to the isothermal conditions of two dimensional problems. To analysis of forging process by using semi-solid materials, a new stress-strain relationship is described, and forging analysis is performed by viscoelastic model for the solid phase and the Darcy's law for the liquid flow. The calculated results for forging force and filling limitations will be compared to experimental data. The filling simulation of simple products performed with the uniform billet temperature(584$^{\circ}C$) from the induction heating by the commercial package MAGMAsoft. The initial step of computation is the touching of semi-solid material with the end of die gate and the initial concept of proposed system just fit with the capability of MAGMAsoft.

A mono-disperse Ni powders for multilayer ceramic capacitors were prepared in a large scale by solution reduction method using $NiSO_{4}$$N_{2}$$H_{4}$and NaOH. The exothermic reactions such as Ni-complex formation between highly concentrated $NiSO_{4}$ and $N_{2}$$H_{4}$ and the reduction of $Ni^{2+}$ into Ni provided thermal energy sufficient for spontaneous solution-reduction reaction. Because well-defined Ni particles could be prepared without external heating, the present method was named as 'auto-thermal method'. The formation of Nicomplex, the precipitation of $Ni(OH)_{2}$ gel triggered by NaOH addition, and its reduction into Ni by dissolution-recrystallization route were the reaction mechanism. The preparation of mono-disperse and spherical Ni powder was attributed to uniform distribution of reducing agent $N_{2}$$H_{2}$ within $Ni(OH)_{2}$ gel due to the decomposition of$NiSO_{4}$-$N_{2}$$H_{4}$ complex.

The superconducting NMR magnets have used cryogen such as liquid helium for their cooling. The conduction cooling method using cryocoolers, however, makes the cryogenic cooling system for NMR magnets more compact and user-friendly than the cryogen cooling method. This paper describes the thermal and structural analysis of a cryogenic conduction cooling system for a 400 MHz HTS NMR magnet, focusing on the magnet assembly. The highly thermo-conductive cooling plates between HTS double pancake coils are used to transfer the heat generated in coils, namely Joule heating at lap splice joints, to thermal link blocks and finally the cryocooler. The conduction cooling structure of the HTS magnet assembly preliminarily designed is verified by thermal and structural analysis. The orthotropic thermal properties of the HTS coil, thermal contact resistance and radiation heat load are considered in the thermal analysis. The thermal analysis confirms the uniform temperature distribution for the present thermal design of the NMR magnet within 0.2 K. The mechanical stress and the displacement by the electromagnetic force and the thermal contraction are checked to verify structural stability. The structural analysis indicates that the mechanical stress on each component of the magnet is less than its material yield strength and the displacement is acceptable in comparison with the magnet dimension.
This paper aims to focus on the microwave processing of thick films which is a fast, cheap technique and could be the alternative to the currently used conventional high temperature processing technique. Microwave processing has gained worldwide acceptance as a novel method for heating and sintering a variety of materials, as it offers specific advantages in terms of speed, energy efficiency, process simplicity, finer microstructures and lower environmental hazards. Silver conducting thick films were prepared and processed in the household microwave oven. The films sintered at different time period by keeping the other parameter such as microwave power, film thickness etc constant. The microstructure analysis revealed that the surface morphology of the microwave processed films become compact with respect to the processing time. The sheet resistance for microwave sintered silver films is in the range of 0.003 to $1.207{\Omega}/{\Box}$ where as the films fired at 750 and $850^{\circ}C$ showed the resistance of 0.009 and $0.003{\Omega}/{\Box}$ which can be comparable. The results revealed that the microstructure of the microwave sintered films has more uniform and compact surface than that of the conventionally fired films. The paper reports upon the preparation of silver thick film by screen printing technique and processing the same by microwave which also compared with the conventionally processed thick films.

This paper describes some computational results of various energy and environmental systems using Patankar's SIMPLE method. The specific topics handled in this study are jet bubbling reactor for flue gas desulfurization, cyclone-type afterburner for incineration, 200m tall stack for 500 MW electric power generation, double skin and heat storage systems of building energy saving for the utilization of solar heating, finally turbulent combustion systems with liquid droplet or pulverized coal particle. A control-volume based finite-difference method with the power-law scheme is employed for discretization. The pressure-velocity coupling is resolved by the use of the revised version of SIMPLE, that is, SIMPLEC. Reynolds stresses are closed using the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ and RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ models. Two-phase turbulent combustion of liquid drop or pulverized coal particle is modeled using locally-homogeneous, gas-phase, eddy breakup model. However simple approximate models are incorporated for the modeling of the second phase slip and retardation of ignition without consideration of any detailed particle behavior. Some important results are presented and discussed in a brief note. Especially, in order to make uniform exit flow for the jet bubbling reactor, a well-designed structure of distributor is needed. Further, the aspect ratio in the double skin system appears to be one of important factors to give rise to the visible change of the induced air flow rate. The computational tool employed in this study, in general, appears as a viable method for the design of various engineering system of interest.
