  • In this paper, an adaptive robust decentralized excitation control scheme is proposed to enhance the transient stability of a multi-machine power system. We employ a state model where the terminal voltage of each generator is regarded as part of the state. Using this state model, the proposed controller is obtained in two steps: firstly, a robust controller is designed for the nominal system with no interconnection terms; then an adaptive compensator is proposed to deal with those interconnection terms, whose upper bounds are estimated. The resulting adaptive scheme guarantees the practical stability of the closed-loop, and also the uniform ultimate boundedness in the presence of disturbances.

  • This paper is concerned with the theoretical and experimental study on the force control of a miniature robotic finger that grasps an object at three other positions with the fingertip. The artificial finger is a uniform flexible cantilever beam equipped with a distributed set of compact grasping force sensors. Control action is applied by a piezoceramic bimorph strip placed at the base of the finger. The mathematical model of the assembled electro- mechanical system is developed. The distributed sensors are described by a set of concentrated mass-spring system. The formulated equations of motion are then applied to a control problem in which the finger is commanded to grasp an object. The H$_{\infty}$-controller is introduced to drive the finger. The usefulness of the proposed control technique is verified by simulation and experiment..

  • Robot is composed of various devices but, those are incompatible with each other and hardly developing reusable control software. This study suggests standard abstract interface for robot software component to make portable device and reusable control software of robot, based on familiar techniques to abstract device in operating systems. This assures uniform abstracted interface to the device driver software like sensor and actuator and, control program can be transparent operation over device. This study can separately and independently develop devices and control software with this idea. This makes it possible to replace existing devices with new devices which have an improved performance.

  • In this study, normal, log-normal, triangular, uniform. Weibull, Erlang and unit beta probability density functions are tried to represent the behaviour of frequency distributions of workpiece dimensions collected from various manufacturing firms. Among the distribution functions, the unit beta distribution function is found to be the best fit using the chi-square test of fit. An attempt is made for the adoption of the unit beta model to x-bar charts of quality control in manufacturing. In this direction, upper and lower control limits (UCL and LCL) of x-bar control charts of dimension measurements are estimated for the beta model, and the observed differences between the beta and normal model control limits are discussed for the measurement sets.

  • Vibration generated by the non-uniform road profile propagates though each tire and the suspension and finally generates structure born noise in the interior of the passenger vehicle. In this paper, the road-booming-noise which has strong correlation with the vibration signals measured at the suspension system was compensated. Active noise control of the road-booming-noise is rather difficult to achieve because of its non-stationary characteristics. CMFX LMS (Constraint Multiple Filtered-X Least Mean Square) algorithm, which can track non-stationary process rather well, is applied. Comprison of the proposed method and the conventional MFX LMS (Multiple Filtered-X Least Mean Square) algorithm is made through the hardware-in-the-loop simulation and the feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated with the experiment.

  • In this paper insertion of numerous control points to be performed by using the Chebyshev polynomial root at the selection of knot vector. This method introduces a simple method of knot refinement and it is applied in a developed program. The Chebyshev roots exist densely in broth ends of the range and are proposed more effective knot refinement to modify a surface. Therefore, generated control points are relatively uniform in specified knot interval. In the surface generation, a local insertion of numerous control points are easily inserted by using the characteristic of Chebyshev polynomial roots at knot refinement. It is possible to create a complex surface with a single surface. The number of control point can be reduced by using the local insertion of control points in a required shape

  • This paper presents a new method for generating smooth free-form surface by local correction. B-spline surface is used for its convenience of local correction, and the direction of surface correction is fixed to the average-surface-normal direction. The surface to be corrected is approximated into a uniform cubic B-spline surface. Then, the smoothness (curvature arrows, iso-parametric lines) of the approximated surface is displayed with B-spline control points. When a control point near the region that needs correction is selected, a new point 1 mm higher than the original control point in the direction of the average surface normal is displayed. And the surface is corrected by giving the amount of control point movement interactively. Since the direction of correction is given by the program and the amount of correction is selected by the user, the method is called semiautomatic. sufficiently smooth surface can be obtained by this method. Examples are given to illustrate the method.

  • A rapid thermal annealing system using tungsten halogen lamp has been designed and assembled. A control scheme where the temperature control is executed with calculated wafer temperature by considering the thermocouple delay rather than measured thermocouple temperature,is proposed. This control scheme gives more accurate control of the wafer temperature. In addition, the distribution of transmitted light power to the wafer in the system has been simulated, and lamp interval modification has been able to give more uniform light power distribution. Considering incident light spectrum, absorption, reflection, radiation of silicon, etc., temperature profile has been simulated. When the light power uniformity on the 3" wafer is below 1%, the temperature uniformity is about 2%.

  • A new feedback control system based on system identification is proposed and preliminarily tested on Van der Pol equation which has a similar characteristic to circular cylinder. The same principle is applicable to circular cylinder in a uniform flow for suppresing the vortex shedding. The feedback controller is designed to impose feedback signal at the phase which is located outside the range of lock-on. The lift coefficient (CL) is employed as a feedback signal and the control forcing is given by a rotational oscillation of the cylinder. By applying the feedback control system, the lift coefficient is reduced.

  • We discuss the feed back control of the on-line QC in the Taguchi method. Taguchi(1982) used the assumptions that the quality characteristics follow an uniform distribution and the Brownian motion to draw the loss function and proposed ${\Delta}/3$ or ${\Delta}$ for the initial control limit. Adams and Woodall(1989) also proposed a different procedure but using the same loss function. We propose, in this paper the new loss function under the assumption of mainly Brownian motion and compare the results with the results of the above.
