  • To date, hundreds of fungal genomes have been sequenced, and many more are underway. Recently developed cutting-edge techniques generate very large amounts of data, and the field of fungal genomics in dermatology has consequently evolved substantially. Methodological improvements have broadened the scope of large-scale ecological studies in dermatology, including biodiversity assessments and genomic identification of fungi. Here, we aimed to provide a brief introduction to bioinformatic approaches to fungal genomics in the field of dermatology. We described the history and basic concepts of fungal genomics and presented sequencing-based techniques for fungal identification, including a list of the revised taxa of dermatophytes, as determined by current phylogenetic analysis. Finally, we discussed the emerging trends in fungal genomics in dermatology, such as next-generation sequencing.

  • Recently, the need for smart construction technologies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution has been increasing in order to improve productivity of the construction industry. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has established Smart construction technology road map to commercialize the smart construction, and research and development is also underway. However, due to the lack of cost estimation standards for such smart construction technologies to be deployed to actual sites, smart construction technologies are not actively applied to construction sites. In particular, cost estimation standards are needed for construction machinery equipment with ICT technology that is currently available for commercialization. Therefore, as a preliminary study for the development of smart construction cost estimation standards, a case study was conducted on ICT construction estimation standards in Japan and present them as basic data for standards in Korea.

  • Research is underway to incorporate water-repellent agents inside mortars to improve the durability of concrete. Therefore, in this study, the mechanical properties and absorption rate were evaluated by adding a hybrid water repellent in which a liquid and a solid were mixed at a constant ratio. As a result of the experiment, the compressive strength of the mortar added with the hybrid water repellent showed a strength reduction of about 5% than the compressive strength of the OPC, and the overall water absorption was lower than that of the water repellent used alone.

  • As an effort to reduce cost and lead-time and to increase flexibility and responsiveness, manufacturers are using digital printing in numerous process steps. Typically, these processes require the precise dispensing of various fluids. Piezo ink jet printheads are proving to be reliable tools for depositing active materials such as light emitting polymers (LEP) for mobile phone displays and color filter inks for liquid crystal displays. Ink jets are also being used to provide uniform coatings of polyimide alignment layers and spacers for LCDs. Success with legend printing on PCBs using ink jets has encouraged the design of equipment for directly printing both etch resist and solder mask for PCBs. Development of printers for passive components such as capacitors and resistors is underway. This paper will present the attributes of an ink jet printhead designed to a precision deposition tool and discuss how it is being used to digitally print electronic and flat panel display components. Status of commercialization of digital printing will be discussed along with issues to be resolved before wide adoption takes place.

  • The purpose of this study is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the cement industry and to collect carbon dioxide generated in industrial facilities such as cement factories and thermal power plants, store and utilize it, and convert high-value-added resources. While conventional Ordinary Portland Cement is characterized by hardening through hydration reactions, basic research is underway to develop cement that reacts with carbon dioxide and converts it into carbonate mineralization.

  • Tidal Flats are very important natural resource and various efforts have been made to protect it from environmental pollutions. The projects to monitor the environmental changes by periodically observing the creatures in tidal flats are underway. However, they are being done inefficiently by people directly observing. In this paper, we propose an object segmentation method that can be applied to the applications which automatically monitor the living creatures in tidal flats. In the proposed method, a foreground map representing the location of objects is obtained by using a temporal difference method, and then a superpixel method is applied to detect the detailed boundary of an object. The region of a crab is extracted finally by combining the foreground map and the superpixel information. Experimental results show that the proposed method separates crab regions from a tidal flat image easily and accurately.

  • I will describe the current progress within the Fifth Generation of SDSS. SDSS-V is an unprecedented all-sky spectroscopic survey of over six million objects. It is designed to decode the history of the Milky Way galaxy, trace the emergence of the chemical elements, reveal the inner workings of stars, and investigate the origin of planets. It will provide the most comprehensive all-sky spectroscopy to multiply the science from the Gaia, TESS and eROSITA missions. SDSS will also create a contiguous spectroscopic map of the interstellar gas in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies that is 1,000 times larger than the state of the art, uncovering the self-regulation mechanisms of galactic ecosystems. It will pioneer systematic, spectroscopic monitoring across the whole sky, revealing changes on timescales from 20 minutes to 20 years. I will highlight key areas of current scientific and technical development as well as opportunities to participate in the survey underway.

  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) research is recently actively underway. Especially, fuel cell battery hybrid systems are widely used to overcome the limitations of continuous operation. However, fuel cell systems must be operated in combination with a battery due to their low specific output characteristics. Therefore, a hybrid power system model for UAVs is developed. The rule-based strategy is applied to the model to properly distribute power to batteries and fuel cells. As a result, the designed rule-based power distribution control operates UAVs while maintaining battery state of charge(SOC) at an appropriate level.

  • Due to sporadic development projects and Korea's geographical characteristics slopes are inevitable. Consequently, widespread slope greening projects are underway, prioritizing safety and landscape integration. Experimental research is being conducted on slope greening methods and their effects; however, there is a dearth of research on the various conditions resulting from slope greening construction defects. This study examined different conditions and assessed greening methods on real-world sites to understand their correlation with slope greening. Even in the same areas, the state of slope greening varied in different conditions. This underscores the importance of pre-evaluating specific conditions to achieve efficient slope greening results across various conditions. Consequently, there is a need for guidelines and institutional frameworks to assess various conditions in future endeavors.

  • Recent advancements in cloud service virtualization technologies have witnessed a shift from a Virtual Machine-centric approach to a container-centric paradigm, offering advantages such as faster deployment and enhanced portability. Container orchestration has emerged as a key technology for efficient management and scheduling of these containers. However, with the increasing complexity and diversity of heterogeneous workloads and service types, resource scheduling has become a challenging task. Various research endeavors are underway to address the challenges posed by diverse workloads and services. Yet, a systematic approach to container orchestration for effective cloud management has not been clearly defined. This paper proposes the DRA-Engine (Dynamic Resource Allocation Engine) for resource scheduling in container orchestration. The proposed engine comprises the Request Load Procedure, Required Resource Measurement Procedure, and Resource Provision Decision Procedure. Through these components, the DRA-Engine dynamically allocates resources according to the application's requirements, presenting a solution to the challenges of resource scheduling in container orchestration.
