Performance of convolutional coding using block interleaving in underwater frequency-selective channel (수중 주파수 선택적 채널에서 블록 인터리빙 기법을 적용한 길쌈부호화 기법의 성능)

  • In this paper, we evaluate the communication performance of convolutional code with block interleaving in a frequency-selective channel. Block interleaving is a technique for spreading and rearranging digital data streams. A block interleaving technique is applied to improve the performance by dispersing the concentration of burst errors in a frequency-selective channel. As a result of evaluating the performance of the convolutional code with block interleaving in the water tank experiment, There was no difference in the performance of convolutional codes using block interleaving in a frequency-selective channel. However, in the frequency-selective channel, the convolutional code with block interleaving has a gain of 2dB, and it is confirmed that the underwater acoustic communication performance is improved.

  • In this paper we achieve experimental data evaluation using SSB(Single-side band) modulation in the ocean. Present research in underwater communication is applying digital modulation, OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Modulation) and MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) system. However, Commercial modems using analog modulation techniques in oceans. So, we achieved experimental for modem appliance development of correct high quality in South Korea sea characteristics. This experimets achievd useing SSB analog modulation in Jin-hae shore of shallow water condition. We analyzed Doppler effects, reverberation and transmission characteristics for real channel effect analysis. As a result, reverberation and ships self-noise are disturbed factors for underwater communications.

Pre-Coding Method for Underwater Digital Communications in a Multipath Channel (다중 전달 경로 채널에서의 수중 디지털 통신을 위한 선 처리 기법)

  • Signals in an underwater channel get distorted by multipath propagation. In this paper, pre-coding method is suggested which helps comprehending the signals with minimum equalization. The signals are transformed based on the knowledge of the impulse response of the channel. Proposed pre-coding method is tested by simulations based on the ray theory and through water tank experiments. In weak multipath environment, in case of an SNR of about 20 dB, BER is 103104, while in strong multipath environment, similar BER is achieved with SNR of about 30 dB. In order for the pre-coding method to be used for underwater vehicles, channel prediction method utilizing the waveguide invariant is suggested and tested.

  • Crowd behaviors on cyber underwater environment are often produced in entertainment contents, such as films and games. It is easy for us to come in contact with the scenes appearing a lot of characters as digital films and animation works are increased gradually, owing to developing of computer graphics. Though the processing a scene of crowd and the behavior system of crowd, related to the processing techniques of crowd behavior in cyber space, have been implemented so far, the research for developing the natural crowd behavior simulator can not be still satisfying. In this paper, we designed a realistic and efficient Fish Schooling Behavior Simulator for the contents production of cyber underwater environment, which showed each type of fish behavior in cyber underwater smartly, and which generated the animating the behavior automatically, reducing the time and cost.

A Method of Biofouling Population Estimation on Marine Structure (수중구조물 표면에 부착된 해양생물의 개체 수 예측 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a method to estimate the number of biofouling attached to the surface of marine structures. This method estimates the number of biofouling by calculating the region maxima using images taken in underwater. To do this, we analyze the correlation between the region maxima and the number of biofouling. The analysis showed that there is a significant correlation between the number of region maxima and the number of biofouling. By using the results of this analysis, the experiments were conducted on images taken in the underwater. Experimental results show that the higher the region maxima of the image, is greater than the number of biofouling in the image. The proposed method can be used as an important technology in computer vision for underwater images.

  • This paper discusses the development of an acoustic vector channel simulator for the performance analysis of an acoustic digital communication system. The channel simulator consists of transmission module, acoustic channel model, receiver, beamformer, and adaptive equalizer. The source signal (QPSK) is generated by the specified parameters. The transmitted signal generates multipath signals which have a different delay, amplitude and doppler frequency. The paper presents in details the approach to the performance analysis of an acoustic digital communication system according to the antenna structure and the various baseband signal processing techniques.

  • The time reversal mirror (TRM) method for underwater communications has been developed to improve transmission performance with low complexity. However, digital communication parameters for TRM have not been researched deeply. This paper demonstrates that the TRM scheme obtains spatial diversity gain similar to multiple antennas, and proposes design methodologies of symbol interval, frame duration and transmission protocol for time reversal mirror transmission. Simulation results show that spatial diversity gain is achieved and the effect of ISI decreases as the number of transducer increases.

  • Recently the crowd environment in the department of the animation is necessary to the digital industry. The goal of researching a proper crowd animation is to design character animation that is defined by the reality of scenes, performance of system and interaction with users to show the crowd vividly and effectively in cyber underwater. It is important to set up the crowd behavior patterns to represent for moving crowd naturally in cyber space. In the paper, we expressed the behavior patterns for flocks of fish in cyber underwater, and compared with the number of mesh, the number of fish, the number of frame, elapsed time, and resolution and analyzed them with the fish behavior simulating system.
