  • This paper describes the assessment of proper location of lightning arrester in combined transmission line which is connected with overhead line and underground cable. The modeling for simulation is established using the actual system in ATP Draw and EMTP. Simulation is carried out to find out the best point to install the arrester in given the model system. And also voltage and current is analyzed on cable covering protection unit(CCPU). The simulation result demonstrated the best location of arrester in the given transmission line through the detailed analysis and its assessment.

  • The necessity of compact high temperature superconducting cables is more keenly felt in densely populated metropolitan areas. Because the compact high-temperature superconducting cables can be installed in ducts and tunnels, thereby reducing construction costs and making the use of underground space more effective, the effect of introducing it to the power system will be huge. Seoul, Korea, is selected as a review model for this paper. The loads are estimated by scenario based on a survey and analysis of 345kV and 154kV power supply networks in this area. Based on this, the following elements for an urban transmission system are examined. (1) A method of constructing a model system to introduce high-temperature superconducting cables to metropolitan areas is presented. (2) A case study is conducted through the analysis of power demand scenarios, and the amount of high-temperature superconducting cable to be introduced by scenario is examined. (3) The economy involved in expanding existing cables and introducing high-temperature superconducting cables(ducts or tunnels) following load increase in urban areas is examined and compared., and standards for current cable ducts are calculated. (4) The voltage level that can be accommodated by existing ducts is examined.

  • In the analysis of lightning surges, transmission towers are usually simulated by ATPDraw. The modeling of transmission towers is an essential part of the traveling wave analysis of lightning surges in transmission lines. The tower model is applied to the 154kV transmission tower of which surge performance characteristics are measured Tower surge response is computed using nonuniform, single-phase line models for both transmission tower and ground wire. The overvoltage will effect to the underground transmission line. The underground cable is combined by duct and trefoil type, and the each arrester is placed on the leading-in tube and outgoing tube. This paper analyzed the effect of lightning overvoltage on the underground cable system.

  • In this study, the new segment assembling method using cable tensible force was developed to improve the problem of bolt assembling method of shield tunnel. In the field test construction, cable assembling method reduced the assembling time of segment in comparison with bolt assembling method because of guide role of segment shear-key. In the result of measuring the necessary time for segment assembling process, it took 420sec to assemble one segment in bolt method and 400sec to assemble one segment in cable method, but in case of using the cable automatic feeder, it could reduce the necessary time as 60sec in comparison with bolt assembling method. The cable automatic system modeling using BIM, that connected shield TBM also will be utilized in the area of design TBM, excavation plan, method process understanding, construction management and so on.
