A Lighting Plan and Operation Strategy for Underground Parking Garages in Residential Areas (주거단지 지하주차장의 조명계획 및 운영방법)

  • The improvement of perspectives on dark and limited underground space could be an important factor in successful underground space development. The Current trend in the apartment underground parking garages requires not only quantitatively energy efficient design and operation but also qualitative improvement of the space. For this, we need to consider two factors: Firstly, to understand the characteristics of the lamps; Secondly, to improve the uniformity ratio of illuminance. In a winter season, a way to keep the uniformity and a method not to lower the indoor illuminance level by cold ambient air should be established. Therefore, a change in interval and arrangement of the lighting fixtures is required. Also, in their operations, the current time-fixed control method needs to be changed into the control which method considers the use pattern.

  • We studied the risk analysis of fire and explosion caused by gas leak in underground-parking of gas vehicle. However, an entrance regulation of gas vehicles (H2/LPG/CNG etc.) to underground garages has not been enacted in Korea. Incase, a gas explodes in an underground parking garage placed in overcrowded residential area, such as an apartment, the scale of the damage would cause tremendous disaster. Faults of vehicle parts and management problems were evaluated by using the Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), which is a qualitative analysis method. The range of the damaged area by the explosion and the damage scale by the explosion pressure were analyzed by using the process hazard analysis software tool (PHAST). The study is expected to facilitate enactment of the regulation for the underground parking to restrict the gas vehicle.

Multi-directional DRSS Technique for Indoor Vehicle Navigation (실내 차량 내비게이션을 위한 다방향 DRSS 기술)

  • While indoor vehicle navigation is an essential component in large-scale parking garages of major cities, technical limitations and challenging propagation environments considerably degrade the accuracy of existing localization techniques. This paper proposes a proximity detection scheme using low-cost beacons where a handheld mobile device within a moving vehicle autonomously detects its approximate position and moving direction by only observing Received Signal Strength (RSS) values of beacon signals. The proposed approach essentially exploits the differential RSS technique of multi-directional beams to reduce the impact of the environment, vehicle, and mobile device. A low-cost multi-directional beacon prototype is developed using Bluetooth technology. The localization performance is evaluated using 96 beacons in an underground parking garage within an area of 394.8m×304.3m. Experimental results show that the 90th percentile of the average proximity detection error is 0.8m. Furthermore, our proposed scheme provides robust proximity detection performance with various vehicles and mobile devices.

Flexural Test on Composite Deck Slab Produced with Extruded ECC Panel (압출성형 ECC 패널을 이용하여 제작된 복합바닥슬래브의 휨 거동)

  • This paper presents a reinforced concrete composite deck slab system newly developed using a high ductile ECC extrusion panel. In the construction practice, the cracking of reinforced concrete slab often becomes a problem especially in parking garages, underground structures, and buildings. The ECC panel manufactured by extrusion process as a precast product has not only a high-quality in control of cracking but also a merit in applying the construction of concrete slab because the use of ECC panel can realize a formless or half-precast construction with cast-in-place concrete. In the newly developed deck slab system, the ECC extrusion panel is located in the bottom of slab with the thickness of 10 mm, reinforcements are assembled and located on the ECC panel, and finally the topping concrete is placed in the field. In order to evaluate the newly developed slab system, experimental works by four point bending test are conducted to compare with the conventional reinforced concrete slab system. From experiment, the developed deck slab system using a ECC panel gives many improved performances both in control of bending cracking and in load-carrying capacities of slabs.
