  • The study establishes the analytical frame composed of 22 items according to the category of passageway, shop, entrance and amenity for the purpose of executing the empirical investigation of the Underground Public Pedestrian Facilities in Daegu Metropolitan City of Korea. As a result of the research work, the study finds out some problems about the facilities as follows: (1) Passageway elements - the skylight was constructed only in one place. In contrast, the standards of passageway and plaza were well-fulfilled except for one or two cases. (2) Shop elements - the cases of installing shops where they should not be located were found the most, and a case of over-establishing the shop area was found as well. (3) Entrance elements - the cases not matching roof or canopy standard over entrance facilities were found the most. Overall, the entrances and their connection to the adjacent buildings are appraised as not well-established. (4) Amenity elements - these were appraised as insufficient in all except two cases. Regarding this, not only necessary are the establishment of facilities and the effort of facility managers, but also urgent is the institutional improvement.

  • An underground ammunition facility requires less quantity distances than the aboveground counterpart. However, chamber blast doors which resist the high blast-pressures are necessary for prevention of the consecutive explosions when an accident explosion occurs at any chamber. This paper aims to propose an procedure for calculation of the design loads for the chamber blast doors. Modeling considerations are drawn through analyzing the influences of the geometrical shapes and mechanical properties of rocks on the propagation of pressure wave along with the tunnels. Additionally, the design loads for the chamber blast doors in a newly-built underground ammunition facility are calculated based on the proposed procedure.

  • With increasing interest in an underground-type ammunition storage facility, several design results have been provided recently. However, since not only experts in the tunnel but also military persons in charge of ammunition have not fully understood the safety distance standard, reliable design results are not being produced. In this study, the effective design method of an underground-type ammunition storage facility was provided by analyzing the current safety distance standard. First, the critical safety distances that dominate the size of construction site for underground-type ammunition storage facilities were evaluated, which are the layout of chambers and the configuration of the entrances. Then, the decreasing effect of inter-chamber distance was studied according to the rock type and the storage density of ammunition. In addition, the method of designing tunnels with parallel lines and two-floors was considered for arranging more chambers while complying with the safety distance standards. In particular, numerical simulations were carried out to determine the satisfaction of the safety distance standards when an underground-type ammunition storage facility is composed of two-floor and the decreasing effect of inter-chamber distance according to the inner explosive pressure reduction. Finally, the method to adjust the size of entrances and the path of pressure were studied for decreasing the safety distance at the entrance.

  • Recently, as underground space safety issues such as sink hole, ground subsidence and damage to old underground facilities have been increasing in urban areas, the precise management of underground facilities ins more required. Thus, this study developed a function to that, visualize on Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information a real-time survey data of underground facilities acquired on site or underground facility survey data acquired through on-site survey after underground facility exploration and developed a function convert to surveying-results. In addition, using the on-site survey performance utilization function in connection with the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information developed through this study, the surveying -results obtained with the Total-station at the water pipeline burial construction site in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul are visualized on the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information and On-site verification was performed by converting spatial-information performance files and transmitting the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information to the mobile center. Based on this, it was possible to verify the work procedure using the surveying-results in the area where the Integration Map of Underground Geospatial Information was built, and to review the direction of future improvement directions.

  • Due to frequent fire incidents in underground culverts, many live are lost and the function of city is paralyzed, and consequently they bring tremendous damages to fortunes and live of people. It brings my attention that there are many problems presented when the current standard of smoke prevention facility is applied to prevent fire. Among many methods to prevent smoke in underground culverts this study concentrates on water-mist method witch is not currently applied in Korea and introduces installation method.

  • Nowadays, a source of all water, which has been spent by a lot of people, is the rainwater The rainwater is directly relating human being' life. According to how to use rainwater. human being' life is abundant or poor. Due to the lack of underground filtration quantity, the water circulation of the city is discontinued and the underground ecosystem is destroyed. This study suggest that the unused underground space of building and temporary structure can be used into rainwater storage tank in the facility to use rainwater. Moreover, in this study, while the building is constructed, It is showed that the water used in construction can be replaced in the rainwater.

  • 2008, Seoulmetro transports an average of 3,952,000 passengers every day with a 0.8% increase of the daily ridership compared to last year.(Korean Economics '09.01.21) Seoul subway systems ridden by a considerable number of Seoul citizens place their top priority on swiftness, safety and clean underground air quality so as to meet the customer satisfaction. One of the most important problems is to eliminate minute dust(PM10) among the pollutants such as the gas attributable to air pollution and floating particulate matter defined by the ordinance of the Ministry of Environment. Seoulmetro install and operate many kinds of air filtration facilities, however we've launched a research on "Standardization Plan on Underground Air Filtration Facility" for the installation and improvement of optimum standardized air filtration system. As a preliminary study, we're going to consider ventilation system and air filter to supply filtered metropolitan outdoor air aimed at ensuring clean underground environment.

  • This paper describes the safety assessment algorithm applied for the underground electrical utilities submerged due to flooding. In implementing the algorithm, several factors pertaining to utility safety were introduced into the process flow, and safety weight was given to each factor. It is considered that this algorithm can ensure the safety of electrical utilities installed underground when they are submerged.

  • GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), developed as a technology for geotechnical investigations such as sinkhole exploration, was used limitedly as a method to resolve undetectable lines in underground facility exploration. To improve the accuracy of underground facility data, the government made it possible to explore underground facilities using a non-metallic pipeline probe from July 2022. However, GPR has a problem in that the exploration rate is lowered in the soil with high moisture content, such as soft soil, such as clay layer, and there is a lot of variation in long-term accuracy. In this study, as a way to improve the accuracy of exploration considering the characteristics of GPR and the environment of underground facilities, we propose a GPR exploration method for underground facilities using permittivity constant correction and pattern analysis of GPR image data. Through this study, the accuracy of underground facility exploration and high reproducibility were derived as a result of field verification applying GPR frequency band and heterogeneous GPR.

  • Facilities located in the underground space are closely related to the sanitation and safety of the city, and the underground spatial information is precisely constructed and used as important information for facility maintenance, safety, and underground space development. In this study, a method was studied to increase the field usability by increasing the reliability of underground spatial information constructed in Korea and used in the field. For this study, the current status of the construction of underground spatial information in Korea was summarized, and cases of the underground spatial information quality grading system applied in the US, UK, Canada, France, and Australia, which are advanced geospatial information countries, were investigated. In terms of field usability, a questionnaire was conducted on the systems, standards, and management methods related to underground spatial information of field experts and consumers working in related fields in Korea, and statistical analysis was conducted to analyze the relevance of the introduction. Through this study, it was concluded that it is necessary to introduce a quality grading system according to the construction method of underground spatial information, accuracy and reliability, and to improve related systems and regulations.
