  • This paper deals with a robust speed control problem of a vertical one-link manipulator in the presence of parameter uncertainties and unknown input disturbance. Uncertain load weight causes an additional sinusoidal disturbance in the rotation of the link. In order to improve the robustness against parameter uncertainties and external input disturbances, this paper employs an internal model-based disturbance observer approach. Comparative computer simulations are performed to test the performance of the proposed controller. The simulation results show the enhanced performance of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive sliding mode control method for trajectory tracking of nonholonomic mobile robots with model uncertainties and external disturbances. The kinematic model represented by polar coordinates are considered to design a robust control system. Wavelet neural networks (WNNs) are employed to approximate arbitrary model uncertainties in dynamics of the mobile robot. From the Lyapunov stability theory, we derive tuning algorithms for all weights of WNNs and prove that all signals of an adaptive closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded.

  • In this study, an extended-state-observer (ESO) based non-linear servo control is introduced for an electro-hydrostatic actuator (EHA). Almost hydraulic systems not only are highly non-linear system that has mismatched uncertainties and external disturbances, but also can not measure some states. ESO that only use an output signal can be used to compensate these uncertainties and estimate unmeasurable states. To improve the position tracking performance, the barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) that can guarantee an output tolerance is introduced for the position tracking error signal of back stepping control procedures. Finally, the proposed servo control is compared with the proportional-integral (PI) control.

  • This paper presents a composite control strategy for the active suppression of vibration due to the unknown disturbances, such as external excitation, harmonic effects and control spillover, as well as high-frequency accelerometer measurement noise in the all-clamped stiffened plate. The proposed composite control action based on the modal approach, consists of two contributions including feedback part and feedforward part. The feedback part is the well-known PID controller, which is widely used to increase the structure damping and improve its dynamic performance close to the resonance frequencies. In order to get better performance for vibration suppression, the weight matrixes is optimized by chaos sequence. Then an improved disturbance observer (IDOB) as the feedforward compensation part is developed to enhance the vibration suppression performance of PID under various disturbances and uncertainties. The proposed IDOB can simultaneously estimate the various disturbances dynamically as well as measurement noise acting on the system and suppress them by feedforward compensation design. A rigorous analysis is also given to show why the IDOB can effectively suppress the unknown disturbances and measurement noise. In order to verify the proposed composite control algorithm (IDOB-PID), the dSPACE real-time simulation platform is used and an experimental platform for the all-clamped stiffened plate active vibration control system is set up. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness, practicality and strong anti-disturbances ability of the proposed control strategy.

  • This paper proposes a robust adaptive fuzzy tracking control scheme for a nonholonomic mobile robot with external disturbances as well as parameter uncertainties in the robot kinematics, the robot dynamics, and the actuator dynamics. In modeling a mobile robot, the actuator dynamics is integrated with the robot kinematics and dynamics so that the actuator input voltages are the control inputs. The presented controller is designed based on a FBFN (Fuzzy Basis Function Network) to approximate an unknown nonlinear dynamic function with the uncertainties, and a robust adaptive input to overcome the uncertainties. When the controller is designed, the different parameters for two actuator models in the actuator dynamics are taken into account. The proposed control scheme does not require the kinematic and dynamic parameters of the robot and actuators accurately. It can also alleviate the input chattering and overcome the unknown friction force. The stability of the closed-loop control system including the kinematic control system is guaranteed by using the Lyapunov stability theory and the presented adaptive laws. The validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme are shown through a computer simulation.

  • In this paper, a robust controller using $H_{\infty}$ control theory has been designed for the load frequency control of interconnected 2-area power system. The main advantage of the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller is that uncertainties of power system can be included at the stage of controller design. Representation of uncertainties is modeled by multiplicative uncertainly. In the mixed sensitivity problems, disturbance attenuation and uncertainty of the system is treated simultaneously. The robust stability and the performance of model uncertainties are represented by frequency weighted transfer function. The design of load frequency controller for each area was based on state-space approach. The comparative computer simulation results for the proposed controller and the conventional techniques such as the optimal control and the PID one were analyzed at the additions of various disturbances. Their deviation magnitude of frequency and tie line power flow at each area were mainly evaluated. Also the testing results of robustness for the cases that the perturbations of the all parameters of power system were amounted to about 20% were introduced. It was approved that the resultant performances of the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller with mixed sensitivity were more robust and stable than the one of conventional controllers.

  • In this paper we consider the problem of global finite-time stabilization for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems which include uncertainties. The uncertainties are time-varying disturbances or parameters belong to a known compact set. The proposed design method is based on backstepping and dynamic exponent scaling using an augmented dynamics, from which, a dynamic smooth feedback controller is derived. The finite-time stability of the closed-loop system and boundedness of the controller are preyed by the finite-time Lyapunov stability theory and a new notion 'degree indicator'.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of LMI based H$_{\infty}$ controller for a line of sight(LOS) stabilization system. This system which is even linearized to analyse nonlinear characteristic has also a lot of uncertainties. In addition, the angular velocity disturbance from the vehicle's driving deteriorates the stabilized LOS, main purpose of this system. In case of fast driving, particularly, all components which are ignored and skipped to make mathematical modelling act as the uncertainties against this system. The robustness against these uncertainties has been also continuously demanded including the well tracking performance for the target. Therefore, this paper employed H$_{\infty}$ control theory to satisfy these problems and LMI method to make suitable controller with few constraints for this system. Although this system matrix doesn't have full rank, this method make it possible to design H$_{\infty}$ controller and deal with R and S matrices for reducing its order. Consequently, this paper shows that the re-analyses on the real disturbances are achieved and the proposed robust controller for them has better disturbance attenuation and tracking performance. This paper contributes the applicability of reduced order H$_{\infty}$ controller to real system by handling LMI..

  • This paper considers feedback error learning neural networks for robot manipulator control. Feedback error learning proposed by Kawato [2,3,5] is a useful learning control scheme, if nonlinear subsystems (or basis functions) consisting of the robot dynamic equation are known exactly. However, in practice, unmodeled uncertainties and disturbances deteriorate the control performance. Hence, we presents a robust feedback error learning scheme which add robustifying control signal to overcome such effects. After the learning rule is derived, the stability is analyzed using Lyapunov method.

  • In this paper we present a variable structure systeme-model following adaptive control (VSS-MFAC) method for an uncertain turbo-generator system which is apt to suffer from the unmodeled parameter uncertainties and the external disturbances. The simulation results for the power system stabilizer(PSS) exhibit robust adaptive model-following properties well in the PSS designed by the proposed VSS-MFAC methodology when a step change in the mechanical torque and a parameter variation is applied.
