The paper presents the unbalance response of a rotor-bearing system supported by an active control bearing. The proportional, derivative and integral controls are employed for the control algorithm of an active control bearing to suppress the unbalance response of a rotor-bearing system. Results of analytical investigations on the unbalance responses of a rotor supported by an active control bearing are presented for various control gains. It is found that the unbalance response of a rotor can be greatly suppressed by the proportional, derivative or integral control of the bearing. The proportional control is more effective than the derivative control at low rotational speed, and the derivative control is more effective than the proportional control at high rotational speed. In the case of the integral control of the bearing , the unbalance response of a rotor is increased as a general rule. However, the integral control of the bearing is extremely superior to proportional or derivative control at very low rotational speed.

This paper describes real-time unbalance moment compensation method for line of sight(LOS) stabilization control systems. The factors of system inertia, frictions and unbalance moment affect the control accuracy of drive systems that are equipped to on the move(OTM) platforms requiring LOS stabilization function. In case of the unbalance moment among those factors is continuously changed as variation of relative angle between gravity vector and drive torque vector. Then, consideration of the effect in real-time is very complicate. Therefore, its effect should be designed to be minimized, however, designing it almost zero is impossible in real condition. In other words, it is hard to achieve target performance overcoming stability issue of highly unbalanced systems. To solve these problems, this paper proposes calculation method of unbalance moment by using measured sensor data for LOS stabilization control and its use for control compensation. Also, kinematical converting process and control structure for compensation are explained. The effectiveness of the proposed method as variation of unbalance moment is verified under simulation circumstance modeled by assuming LOS control system with 2-axis gimbal structure.
The voltage unbalance of an LVDC bipolar distribution system was controlled for high power quality. Voltage unbalance may occur in a bipolar distribution system depending on the operation of the converter and load usage. Voltage unbalance can damage sensitive load and lead to converter accidents. The conditions that may cause voltage unbalance in a bipolar distribution system are as follows. First, three-level AC/DC converters in bipolar distribution systems can lead to voltage unbalance. Second, bipolar distribution systems can be at risk for voltage unbalance because of load usage. In this paper, the output DC link of a three-level AC/DC converter was analyzed for voltage unbalance, and the bipolar voltage was controlled with algorithms. In the case of additional voltage unbalance according to load usage, the bipolar voltage was controlled using the proposed converter. The proposed converter is a dual half-bridge converter, which was improved from the secondary circuit of a dual half-bridge converter. A control algorithm for bipolar voltage control without additional converters was proposed. The balancing control of the bipolar distribution system with distributed power was verified through experiments.
Unbalance analysis is essential in the rotor system. However, some problems still remain in the aspects of computational efficiency and accuracy. In the present paper a new method is proposed for estimating the mass unbalance of a rotating shaft by using the vibration signals. This is an advanced new method for the detection of a mass unbalance and its phase position. Based on the signal processing with FFT, an estimator is designed to detect the mass of unbalance. And an improved Lissajous diagram is also introduced with statistical analysis, which make it possible to compute the phase position of the mass unbalance efficiently and arranged at a certain location of the shaft. The proposed method is demonstrated and validated through several test examples.

The aim of the work is to present a new method of estimating the existence of a mass unbalance and mass unbalance under a crack on a rotating shaft. This is an advanced new method for the detection of a mass unbalance and a new way to estimate the position of it under crack influence. As the first step, the shaft is physically modelled with a finite element method and the dynamic mathematical model is derived by using the Hamilton principle; thus, the system is represented by various subsystems. The equation of motion of the shaft with a mass unbalance and a crack are established by adapting the local mass unbalance and the stiffness change. this is a reference system for the given system. Based on a model for transient behavior induced from vabrations measured at the bearings, an elementary Estimator is designed to detect mass unblance on the shaft. Using the Estimator, a bank of the Estimator is established to estimate the estimate the position of the mass unbalance and arranged at a certain location on the shaft. The informations for the given system are the measurements of bearing displacements and velocity.
With the rotational speed of the hard disk drive (HDD) increased, the low frequency structural vibration induced by the unbalance force gives rise to the structure home noise of the personal computer, and finally degrades the noise quality. As the unbalance of the hard disk drive is decided by the mechanical assembly allowance between clamping and platter disk, there is limit to control this unbalance by the improved assembly method. To improve the noise and vibration performance of PC, basically the unbalance of HDD needs to be measured absolutely and reduced during the stage of the disk assembly. This study introduces the HDD unbalance measurement methods of the absolute magnitude based on the mobility concept, and the unbalance location information with the acceleration orbit.
A cascaded H-bridge multi-level STATCOM(STATic synchronous COMpensator), which is composed of many cell inverters with independent dc-sources, generates inevitably dc-side voltage unbalance among phases when it compensates unbalanced load. It comes from the difference of flowing active power in each phase when this compensator makes negative-sequence current to eliminate the unbalance of source-side current. However, this unbalance can be controlled by injecting zero-sequence current which is decoupled with grid currents, so the compensator can work well during this balancing process. Both a feedback control algorithm, which produces zero-sequence current proportional to dc-side voltage unbalance within each phase, and a feedforward control algorithm, which makes zero-sequence current directly from the compensator's negative-sequence current, were proposed. The dc-side voltage of each phase can be controlled stably by these proposed algorithms in both steady-state and transient, so the compensator can have fast response to satisfy control performance under rapid changing load. These balancing controllers were implemented and verified via simulation and experiment.
In this paper synchronous whirl of bearing is employed as control algorithm of actively controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing to suppress the whirl instability and unbalance response of a rotor-bearing system. Also, the cavitation algorithm implementing the Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson boundary condition is adopted to predict cavitation regions in the fluid film more accurately than conventional analysis which uses the Reynolds condition. The stability and unbalance responses of a rotor-bearing system are investigated for various control gain and phase difference between the bearing and journal motion. It is shown that the unbalance response of a rotor-bearing system can be greatly improved by synchronous whirl of the bearing, and there is an optimum phase difference, which gives the minimum unbalance response of the system, at given operating condition. It is also found that the speed at onset of instability can be greatly increased by synchronous whirl of the bearing.
The unbalance heavy-load elevation driving systems are composed of rotating link-mechanism and hydraulic cylinder which actuates elevation and compensates the static unbalance moment of supporting mechanism. Control and compensation of gun driving is very difficult because these mechanism imply highly nonlinearities due to hydraulic fluid characteristics and mechanical rotation of link-mechanism. In this study, through the analysis of manufactured link-mechanism, the optimal link-mechanism design of the elevating system is suggested. Also to estimate the control performance of the unbalance heavy-load elevation servo-control driving system, modeling and simulation of the system are carried out. To prove the reliability of performance estimation program, simulation results are compared with the experimental results. Both results are similar, therefore this program will be helpful to study the control performance improvement of the system.
