제조사업장 식당 종사자의 홍반 등 건강장해 원인 규명 및 예방 방안 (Identification of Causes and Prevention Measures for Health Disorders Such as Erythema of Restaurant Workers in Manufacturing Company)

  • Objectives: A collective of workers in the company's cafeteria encountered symptoms such as stinging and watering in and around the eyes, a sensation of sand in the eyes, erythema, swelling, and peeling of the skin on the face and neck. The objective of this study is to pinpoint the causes of these symptoms and propose preventive measures. Methods: Following preliminary on-site investigations, worker interviews, and literature research, it was determined that the most probable cause of the symptoms was ultraviolet rays emitted from a UV sterilizer. Consequently, the study measured and assessed the effective amount of ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sterilizer. Results: When operating with the curtain-type door of the ultraviolet sterilizer open, it was observed to surpass the 0.1 μW/cm2 8-hour work exposure standard recommended by ACGIH TLV in most kitchen workspaces. The evaluation of the maximum allowable exposure time based on the distance from the ultraviolet sterilizer indicated only 4.2 seconds at a distance of 0.2 m with the curtain door open, and merely 1.7 minutes at a distance of 1 m. Conclusions: This study confirmed that the symptoms among restaurant workers emerged immediately after the installation of the ultraviolet sterilizer, and these symptoms were consistent with those associated with exposure to ultraviolet rays. Furthermore, the assessment revealed that the exposure level to ultraviolet rays could be exceeded established exposure standards. It was recommended that the existing ultraviolet sterilizer be replaced with one featuring a glass door, and facility improvements should be made, such as implementing an automatic mechanism to turn off the ultraviolet lamp when the door is opened.

한국산(韓國産) 옻칠도막(漆塗膜)에 관한 주사전자현미경적(走査電子顯微鏡的) 고찰(考察) (A Scanning Electron Microscopic Study on Korean Rhus Lacquer Coats)

  • This study was executed to investigate scanning electron microscopic characteristics of Korean Rhus lacquer coats. With the unrefined coat, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, acetic acid, ethyl alcohol, cold-check test, and accelerated weathering were performed after refining treatment. These treated lacquer coats were discussed through observation by scanning electron microscope and the obtained results were summarized as follows: 1. Compared with unrefined coat, the refined coat of Korean Rhus lacquer showed more even surface with regular distribution of dispression. 2. Korean Rhus lacquer coat heated at $120^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours revealed no observable difference irrespective of refining and unrefining. 3. Korean Rhus lacquer coat treated by distilled water, sodium hydroxide, acetic acid. ethyl alcohol, cold-check test. and ultraviolet radiation showed significant characteristics compared with untreated coat. Especially. large deformation and checkings were observed by cold-check test and ultraviolet radiation respectively. 4. The Korean Rhus lacquer coat radiated by ultraviolet ray showed 0.11 duller and 1.41 brighter than non-radiated coat through color difference calculator.

  • Using of geosynthetics with linear materials(sand, gravel, clay soil) is rapidly increased in landfill. With geosynthetics, geotextiles often expose to solar radiation(Ultraviolet) on long terms during the installation. In this paper, the results will represent the strength retention rate and tensile retention rate of geotextiles between outdoor exposed and protected by 15cm thickness of soil. As a result of cumulating solar radiation in geotextiles was increased, the strength retentions rate of P.P(500g/$m^2$), P.P(700g/$m^2$) and P.P(1000g/$m^2$) were decreased and the lower weight of unit area of geotextiles, the faster decrease of strength retention rate. P.E.T(600g/$m^2$) was showed a distinctive trend that the strength retention rate increased. The tensile retention rate of tested geotextiles was decreased during the simulation. However, the strength and tensile retention rate of geotextiles covered by soil had changed insignificantly. Therefore, it can surmise that the soil covering will help geotextiles to be protected from UV effecting

  • In this study we assessed the influences of ultraviolet (UV) light B radiation on epidermal ATPase-positive dendritic cell (DC) and the effect of green tea treatment in ICR mouse. The extent of changes following 200 mJ/$cm^2$ (0.5 mW/sec) was studied at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 or 36 hours after exposure. SBCs were decreased by 6 hours after irradiation. There was tendency to decrease from 6 hours to 24 hours and had little further change from then to 36 hours after irradiation. The mice that received 0, 50, 100, 200, 300 or 400 mJ/$cm^2$ of UVB were examined 24 hours after irradiation. The DCs were decreased as the radiation dose increases from 100 to 400 mJ/$cm^2$. The frequency of UVB (200 mJ/$cm^2$)-induced DC decrease was reduced by treatment of green tea (i.p. and topical application, p<0.01).

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate a relationship between ultraviolet radiation and initial cell density (ICD) of microalgae using a floating marine photobioreactor (PBR). To examine the effect of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in sunlight on biomass productivity as a function of ICD, 0.5-L floating PBRs covered with or without UV cut-off film were placed in an outdoor rectangular tank containing 200 L of water. At the lower ICDs, 0.01 and 0.05 g/L, biomass productivities in the PBRs without UV cut-off film decreased by $278{\pm}21%$ and $222{\pm}3%$ compared with those with the film, respectively. In contrast, the presence of UV cut-off film did not have a significant effect on biomass productivities at the higher ICDs, 0.25 and 1.25 g/L. When the differences in biomass productivity made by the UV cut-off film were plotted against the sum of cell projection area per light receiving area of the PBR, the results revealed that the inhibitory effect of UV on biomass productivity can be negligible when the sum of cell projection area is equal to the light receiving area of the PBR. These results show that photoinhibition caused by UV radiation could be eliminated via operating the PBR with a proper ICD.

FUV Images and Physical Properties of the OES region

  • The far-ultraviolet (FUV) H2 and C IV emission images and spectra of Orion Eridanus Superbubble (OES) is hereby presented. The OES seems to consists of multiple phase through the detection of highly-ionized gas and pervasive neutral hydrogen. The former is traced by hot gas while the latter is traced by cold medium. A spectral image made with H2 fluorescent emission shows that the spatial distribution of hydrogen molecule is well correlated with the dust map. The model spectra was taken from a photodissociation region (PDR) radiation code which find a best suitable parameter such as hydrogen density, gas temperature and incident uv intensity of the radiation field. C IV emission is caused by intermediate temperature ISM about 10^4.5 K~10^6 K. Therefore we could get more clear evidence to reveal the structure of OES. Feature of spectra for the each sub region is also presented and discussed. The data were obtained with the Far-Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (FIMS) and the whole data handling were followed by previous FIMS analysis.

오존층파괴와 건강영향 (Overview of the Current State on Depletion of the Ozone Layer and Health Consequences)

  • There is increasing concern that depletion of the ozone layer may have important health consequences. Each $1\%$ decline in ozone concentration is expected to cause a $2\%$ increase in ultraviolet radiation this in turn has been suggested to lead to up to a $4-6\%$ increase in certain kinds of skin cancer. In Colorado state, malignant melanoma patients increased form 7.4 cases per 100,000 to 12.6 per 100,000 in the general population between 1979 and 1985. In Australia, 4,000 new melanomas are diagnosed each year and 800 people die every year from melanoma. Strong international controls CFCs production are necessary to lower the destruction of ozone in the stratosphere. Only then will the increase in ultraviolet radiation to the skin be halted and the incidence and mortality from melanomas be reduced.

감압대기 및 불활성가스 분위기에서 적합한 정전기 제거장치의 개발 (Development of the Most Optimized Ionizer for Reduction in the Atmospheric Pressure and Inert Gas Area)

  • In LCD Display or semiconductor manufacturing processes, the anti-static technology of glass substrates and wafers becomes one of the most difficult issues which influence the yield of the semiconductor manufacturing. In order to overcome the problems of wafer surface contamination various issues such as ionization in decompressed vacuum and inactive gas(i.e. $N_2$ gas, Ar gas, etc.) environment should be considered. Soft X ray radiation is adequate in air and $O_2$ gas at atmospheric pressure while UV radiation is effective in $N_2$ gas Ar gas and at reduced pressure. At this point of view, the "vacuum ultraviolet ray ionization" is one of the most suitable methods for static elimination. The vacuum ultraviolet can be categorized according to a short wavelength whose value is from 100nm to 200nm. this is also called as an Extreme Ultraviolet. Most of these vacuum ultraviolet is absorbed in various substances including the air in the atmosphere. It is absorbed substances become to transit or expose the electrons, then the ionization is initially activated. In this study, static eliminator based on the vacuum ultraviolet ray under the above mentioned environment was tested and the results show how the ionization performance based on vacuum ultraviolet ray can be optimized. These vacuum ultraviolet ray performs better in extreme atmosphere than an ordinary atmospheric environment. Neutralization capability, therefore, shows its maximum value at $10^{-1}{\sim}10^{-3}$ Torr pressure level, and than starts degrading as pressure is gradually reduced. Neutralization capability at this peak point is higher than that at reduced pressure about $10^4$ times on the atmospheric pressure and by about $10^3$ times on the inactive gas. The introductions of these technology make it possible to perfectly overcome problems caused by static electricity and to manufacture ULSI devices and LCD with high reliability.
