Ni-CNT(Carbon Nanotubes) composite coating is often used for the surface treatment of mechanical/electronic devices to improve the properties of the Ni coating. For the Ni-CNT coating, the dispersion of CNT fibers is a critical process. In this study, ultrasonic treatment instead of the conventional ball milling was attempted as a dispersion method for the electroless Ni-CNT coating. SEM-EDX analysis was performed and contact angle, sheet resistance, and micro-hardness were measured. Results showed that the ultrasonic treatment was comparable to the ball milling, as a dispersion method, but the difference was negligible. However, combined ball milling and ultrasonic treatment(double treatment) showed much improved micro-hardness value, above 350Hv(close to the value obtained by the Ni-CNT electroplating). In addition, electroless Ni-CNT(double-treated) coatings formed on the thin Ni film deposited by the electroless plating(double coating) showed better mechanical properties. Thus, double treatment and double coating are suggested as an improved electroless Ni-CNT coating method.
In the present study, $Ni-TiO_2$ composite coatings were electrodeposited in a sulfamate bath containing $TiO_2$ particles. The influence of the ultrasonic treatment on the co-deposition of $TiO_2$ particles in the coating and the hardness of the electrodeposited $Ni-TiO_2$ composite has been investigated. Three different ultrasonic treatments (pretreatment before the electrodeposition (pre-UT), pretreatment + applied during the electrodeposition (UT), and the electrodeposition without the ultrasonic treatment (w/o UT)) were performed. The $Ni-TiO_2$ composite coatings are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), image analyzer, and hardness tester. Comparison of results indicates that the volume fraction is more important factor than the agglomerated particle size in terms of the strength improvement, and the strength of the electrodeposited $Ni-TiO_2$ composite coatings is enhanced with pre-UT condition.
Recently, there were many researches for efficiency improvement of DSC. Among of these works, research of surface treatment is still a prerequisite for electron diffusion, light-harvesting and surface state of DSC.[1] Using of the surface treatment, it can be raise up porosity of $TiO_2$ nano-crystalline structure on photo-electrode. There are chemical, physical, electrical and optical methods which raise up its porosity. In this paper, we have designed and manufactured MOPA-type ultrasonic circuit (100W, frequency and duty variable). Manufactured ultrasonic circuit to use to force cavity density and power into $TiO_2$ paste. Then, we have optimized forcing time, frequency and duty of ultrasonic irradiation for surface treatment of photo-electrode of DSC. In I-V characteristic test of DSC, ultrasonic and thermal treated DSC shows 19% improved its efficiency against monolithic DSC. And it shows stability of light-harvesting from drastically change of light irradiation test.
Artificial aging was performed to simulate the microstructural degradation in 2.25CrMo steel arising from long time exposure at $540^{\circ}C$. It was found that the carbides became coarser and spheroidized as aging time increased. An attempt was made to evaluate the microstructural degradation in artificially aging heat treated 2.25CrMo steel by the ultrasonic attenuation and velocity measurements. Ultrasonic velocity was found essentially insensitive to the microstructural changes resulting from aging heat treatment. However, the ultrasonic attenuation was observed to increase with increasing aging time. Also, it was noticed that the change of ultrasonic attenuation with aging time was more sensitive at high frequency regions.
In this study, we attempted to solubilize protein in slaughter blood (SB) using ultrasonic technology. The application of ultrasonic technology can make enzymatic degradation of SB more effective, which has no comparable alternative for treatment. The SB was homogenized by grinding it for 10 minutes at 10,000 rpm as a pretreatment for preventing its clotting, and then ultrasonic treatment was attempted to solubilize protein in SB. To maximize the efficiency of ultrasonic treatment for SB, the optimum condition of ultrasonic frequency (UF) was determined to be 20 kHz. To optimize the operation conditions of ultrasonification with 20 kHz of frequency, we used response surface methodology (RSM) based on ultrasonic density (UD) and ultrasonification time (UT). The solubilization rate (SR) of protein (%) was calculated to be $101.304-19.4205X_1+0.0398X_2+7.9411X_1{^2}+0.0001X_2{^2}+0.0455X_1X_2$. From the results of the RSM study, the optimum conditions of UD and UT were determined at 0.5 W/mL and 22 minutes, respectively, and SB treated under these conditions was estimated to have a 95% SR. Also, experimentally, a 95.53% SR was observed under same conditions, accurately reflecting the theoretical prediction of 95%.
This experiment was mainly performed with a mechanical treatment using ultrasound. We got the following conclusions : At seven minutes-ultrasonic treatment using nonionic surfactant, yield, brightness and residual ink contents were superior to other treatment, but several strength properties were decreased. On the other hand anionic surfactant was considerably low ink removal efficiency. For ultrasonic treatment using nonionic surfactant, yield and brightness were dropped when temperature was over 4$0^{\circ}C$, but were observed to be insensitive to the pulp consistency and flotation time. In the case of nonionic surfactant, tensile and burst strength were improved when ultrasonic treatment was used comparing to non-treatment, and nonionic surfactant was generally better than anionic surfactant in terms of tensile and burst strength regardless of ultrasound conditions. Several properties were decreased when anionic surfactant was used in comparison with nonionic surfactant except yield, therefore, anionic surfactant. was not proper to be used in this condition.
The microstructural changes with pearlite formation heat treatment in eutectoid steel(railway steel) consisting of only pearlite structure were evaluated by the ultrasonic attenuation and velocity measurements. The result of this investigation showed a strong linear dependence of ultrasonic attenuation on pearlite interlamellar spacing, and accordingly on fracture strength of the pearlite.
