  • This paper is to aim the microdefect evaluation of If package into a quantitative from NDI's image processing of ultrasonic wave. (1) Automatically repeated discrimination analysis method can be devided in the category of all kind of defects on IC package, and also can be possible to have a sampling of partial delamination. (2) It is possible that the information of edge section in silicon chip surrounding can be extractor by the partial image processing of IC package. Also, the crack detection is possible between the resin part and lead frame.

  • 초음파전파영상화(UPI) 시스템은 2007년에 첫 논문 발표를 통해 시스템 개발이 보고된 이후 소프트웨어 및 하드웨어적 측면에서 다양한 형태로 발전된 시스템의 개발이 이루어졌다. 본 기고에서는 기본 UPI 시스템, 섬유파트랜스듀서 UPI 시스템, 순수광학시스템으로서 광섬유 센서 UPI 시스템, 완전비접촉 시스템으로서의 공기정압압전센서 UPI 시스템 및 레이저도플러진동계 UPI 시스템, 장거리 UPI 시스템, 옥외 적용성에 필수적인 저온환경 UPI 시스템 등을 소개한다.

  • It is difficult to detect such flaws as stress - corrosion cracking or corrosion wastage(loss of bolt diameter) in the threads. In many cases the critical size of a flaw is very small(1-2 mm order). This paper describes how it is possible to discriminate small flaw indications in threads using the time difference or thread signals(TDTS) by a signal-conditioning technique.

  • Nondestructive method can include both testing itself and analysis or evaluation of the testing results. Although vast amount of testing can be accomplished in a fairly short amount of time due to the advancement of electronic technology. it is really difficult matter to identify whether the indication found during testing corresponds to be a real defect. Thus, in ultrasonic testing, advanced digital signal processing techniques have been widely studied in order to identify the shape of the defect during testing, and one of the signal processing techniques, synthetic aperture focusing technique(SAFT) was tried for holes machined in carbon steel plate in this study. Result showed that signal to noise ratio has been improved considerably compared to the result from original RF signals.

  • Carbon-fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) composite laminates often possess strong in-plane elastic anisotropy attributable to the fiber orientation and layup sequence. The layup orientation thus greatly influences its properties in a composite laminate. It could result in the part being rejected or discarded if the layup orientation of a ply is misaligned. A nondestructive technique would be very beneficial, which could be used to test the part after curing and to require less time than the optical test. In this paper, ultrasonic scanners were set out for different measurement modalities for acquiring ultrasonic signals as a function of in-plane azimuthal angle. The motorized scanner was built first for making transmission measurements using a pair of normal-incidence shear wave transducers. Another scanner was then built fer the acousto-ultrasonic configuration using contact transducers. A ply-by-ply vector decomposition model has been developed, simplified, and implemented for composite laminates fabricated from unidirectional plies. We have compared the test results with model data. It is found that strong agreement are shown between tests and the model developed in characterizing cured layups of the laminates.

  • The simulation of nondestructive testing has been used in the prediction of the signal characteristics of various defects and in the development of the procedures. CIVA, a simulation tool dedicated to nondestructive testing, has good accuracy and speed, and provides a three-dimensional graphical user interface for improved visualization and familiar data displays consistent with an NDE technique. Even though internal validations have been performed by the CIVA software development specialists, an independent validation study is necessary for the assessment of the accuracy of the software prior to practical use. In this study, time of flight diffraction signals of ultrasonic inspection of a calibration block for reactor vessel head penetrations were simulated using CIVA. The results were compared to the experimentally inspected signals. The accuracy of the simulated signals and the possible range for simulation were verified. It was found that, there is a good agreement between the CIVA simulated and experimental results in the A-scan signal, B-scan image, and measurement of depth.

  • Ultrasonic pulse-echo methods measuring the transit time through specimens have been widely used in determination of ultrasonic velocity and thickness of specimens. Usually, to determine the velocity of the ultrasonic. the transit time of the ultrasonic pulse through specimen is measured by using the ultrasonic measuring equipment such as the oscilloscope including ultrasonic pulser/receiver and the thickness of the specimen is measured by using the length measuring instrument such as micrometer or vernier calipers etc., i. e. each parameter is measured by using each measuring method. In the case of the measuring the thickness of a specimen by using the ultrasonics. the ultrasonic equipments, which measure the thickness, such as the ultrasonic thickness gauge must be calibrated by using the reference block of which the ultrasonic velocity is known beforehand. In the present work, we proposed a new method for simultaneous measurement of ultrasonic velocity and thickness without reference blocks. Experimental results for several specimens show that proposed method have good agreements with those by traditional ultrasonic method.

  • Inspection of dissimilar metal welds using phased array ultrasound is not easy at all, because crystalline structure of dissimilar metal welds cause deviation and splitting of the ultrasonic beams. Thus, in order to have focusing and/or steering phased array beams in dissimilar metal welds, proper time delays should be determined by ray tracing. In this paper, we proposed an effective approach to solve this difficult problem. Specifically, we modify the Oglivy's model parameters to describe the crystalline structure of real dissimilar metal welds in a fabricated specimen. And then, we calculate the proper time delay and incident angle of linear phased array transducer in the anisotropic and inhomogeneous material for focusing and/or steering phased array ultrasonic beams on the desired position.

  • Crack detection technique by ultrasonics in structures and components made of austenitic stainless steel often loses its reliability due to the material characteristics during inservice inspection of nuclear power plants, especially in the area of detection and sizing in centrifugally cast stainless steel pipings. In order to understand and overcome this problem, computer program for tracing the ultrasonic rays within material has been developed to simulate the process of defect detection within weld. The program simulates through transmission and reflection technique in crack detection of austenitic stainless steel as well as ultrasonic beam propagation through multiple media including stainless steel cladding interface.

  • Many pressure vessels for power and industrial plant are fabricated from low alloy carbon steels. The inner sides of pressure vessels are commonly weld-cladded with austenitic stainless steels to minimize problems of corrosive attack. Disbonding cracks are often detected at the transition region of welding interlayer, which is serious problem to reliability of pressure vessels. We have developed C-scan system to high speed inspection of overlay weld using DSP(digital signal processor). This system consists of signal processing parts (oscilloscope, pulser/receiver, digitizer, DSP), scanner, program and position controller. The developed system has been applied to a practical ultrasonic testing in overlay weld, and demonstrated high speed with precision
