  • A linear ultrasonic motor was designed by a combination of the longitudinal and bending mode. Linear ultrasonic motors are based on an elliptical motion on the surface of elastic body, such as bar or plates. The corresponding eigen-mode of one resonance frequency can be excited twice at the same time with a phase shift of 90 degrees in space and time. That is excite symmetric and anti-symmetric modes. Then it determines the thrust and speed of the motor. Linear ultrasonic motors are investigated experimentally in according to be fabricated a general classification to motor structure and material characteristic. There was the first to simulate as use of finite element analysis ANSYS 9.0. The AL-T2W8-ARM14-LEG18-ANGLE80 motor has a maxim efficiency 17 [%] under the speed 0.14 [m/s], thrust 345 [gf] and preload 280 [gf], operating frequency is 57.6 [kHz].

  • The ultrasonic piezo motor is a new type motor that has an excellent performance and many useful features that electromagnetic motors do not have. But, it suffers from severe system non-linearities and parameter variations especially during speed control. Therefore, it is difficult to accomplish satisfactory control performance by using the conventional PID controller. In this paper, to achieve the precise control, we analyzed response time & change with a driving time, and proposed PD controller combined with neural network. The backpropagation algorithm is used to train a given trajectory. The effectiveness of the used method is confirmed by experiments. The effectiveness of the used method is confirmed by experiments using the ultrasonic motor made in Korea.

  • As industrial technology was developed, necessity for small size motor was increased on various fields such as medical treatment and robotics. The motor should be simple structure, and it has easy process of manufacture to overcome the limit of miniaturization. So, "the windmill type ultrasonic motor" is enough to satisfy these conditions. In this paper, windmill type ultrasonic motor which was proposed by B.Koc and K.Uchino, was analyzed and fabricated with modified endcap shape. Displacements of arms of the proposed endcap were compared with the previous endcap, using the finite element analysis program (ANSYS). Better rotational characteristics was expected in proposed model as result of FEA. Experimentally, rotary motors of 3.5 [cm] diameter were fabricated, and the speed and torque of the motor were measured. As a result, speed and torque were changed in proportion to the electrical input voltages. And low efficiency which was different from an expectation was obtained in this motor. So, various problems should be improved for practical use.

  • The rotational force of ultrasonic motors is able to get from the frictional force of elliptical vibration by contact between rotor and stator. Generally, ultrasonic motors are suitable for driving at resonant frequencies of about 20∼80[KHz]. The driving characteristics of ring type ultrasonic motors are the object of this study. A two-phase driving signal is delivered to the tested ultrasonic motor, which has a $90^0$ phase difference respectively with both sine and cosine voltage waveforms. The driving frequency is almost equal to the mechanical resonant frequency for the proper operation, and the driving signal is supplied by the two-phase parallel resonant inverter. The validity of the proposed driving method is verified by experimental results with stable operation.

  • In this paper, we proposed windmill type ultrasonic motor which has modified shape of Endcap. The motor was especially designed by FEM for high speed. As results, displacements of the windmill and the clover type motor was compared. Using clover type motor, more smooth rotation of rotor was achieved. If Z component of the displacement of the clover type motor can be applied for linear motor.

Shock analysis of a new ultrasonic motor subjected to half-sine acceleration pulses

  • This paper aims to examine the dynamic response of a newly designed ultrasonic motor under half-sine shock impulses. Impact shock was applied to the motor along x, y or z axis respectively with different pulse widths to check the sensitivity of the motor to the shocks in different directions. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with the ANSYS software was conducted to obtain the relative displacement of a key point of the motor. Numerical results show that the maximum relative displacement is of micro meter level and the maximum stress is five orders smaller than the Young's modulus of the piezo material, which proves the robustness of the motor.

  • In this paper, the design and characteristics of a novel ultrasonic motor are investigated. Such a motor is appropriate far use in the optical zoom or auto focusing functions of the lens system in mobile phones. Its design and simulation of performances are carried out by FEM commercial software (ATILA). The shape of the motor is similar to a square without one side, on which an optical lens can be mounted. Two sheets of piezoelectric ceramics are adhered to both sides of two legs of the elastic body, respectively To drive the ultrasonic motor, the voltage is applied to two sheets of piezoelectric ceramics bonded to one leg. The rotation direction can be easily changed by switching the piezoelectric sheets bonded to the other leg, to which voltage is applied. A proto type of the motor is fabricated and its outer size is $10^*10^*2[mm3]$ including the camera lens of which the diameter is 7.5(mm). Its power consumption is about 0.3[W] and the speed of rotation is adjustable from 10 to 200[rpm] according to the applied voltage

Thin-Type 초음파모터의 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of a Thin-Type Ultrasonic Motor)

  • In this paper, the characteristics of a thin-type ultrasonic motor generating elliptical displacements analyzed by FEM are presented, and then fabrication of the motor is then described. The structure of the motor consists of sixteen ceramic pieces attached to the upper and bottom surfaces of an elastic body. The principle of the motor is to apply alternating voltages which have a 90 phase difference to the attached ceramics, and then elliptical displacements are generated at four edges of the elastic body. Then the rotor is moved by the elliptical displacements. In the case of a ceramic thickness of 1.5, the highest speed was obtained at 79 kHz. In the case of a ceramic thickness of 2 mm, the highest speed was obtained at 77.5 kHz. Consequently, the speed and torque of the ultrasonic motor (USM) increased linearly with increasing applied voltage.

  • 초음파 결함 분석 프로그램은 초음파 반사법을 기반으로 초음파 신호처리 기법을 적용하여 개발되었고, FRP 층간분리 및 FRP/내열고무 미접착 결함을 정량적으로 측정할 수 있었다. 복합재 연소관에서 검출된 결함은 절단하여 전산화 단층촬영 및 영상 현미경으로 분석하였고, 결함 분석 프로그램의 결과와 일치하였다. 본 논문은 복합재 연소관의 초음파시험 데이터를 C-Scan 영상으로 변환하여 결함을 분석할 수 있는 프로그램 개발 과정을 기술하였다.

  • 초음파를 이용한 추진기관의 접착 계면 검사는 결함 검출 능력과 경제성이 우수하다고 알려져 있다. 하지만, 추진기관의 접착 구조는 다중 계면이므로 송신 펄스와 수신 펄스의 시간 간격이 짧아서 반사 신호의 분리가 어렵기 때문에 초음파의 신호 분석에는 많은 시간과 노력이 소요된다. 이런 이유로 추진기관의 초음파시험은 연소관과 내열재 사이의 미접착 결함과 같이 극히 제한된 영역에 대해서만 자동화 시스템으로 수행하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 초음파시험으로 검출이 불가능했던 라이너와 추진제 미접착 결함을 초음파의 공진 현상과 램파 특성을 이용하여 검출하는 새로운 기법에 대해 기술하였다.
