  • To resolve land demand by the development of various industries and the cityward tendency of population, the construction of ultra-soft ground that is unused in the past has been progressing with activity. The ultra-soft ground has very small shear strength and large deformation, so leads to many problems in ground improvement in construction. In order to dispose of these problems, it is necessary to develope the chemical materials that can be applied to the surface stabilization of ultra-soft ground. In this study, the new ground treatment that is using cement and SCS is compared, analyzed with existing ground treatment. In addition, through the laboratory tests that check the characteristic of congealment and strength, the application of SCS in field is affirmed.

  • In this paper, novel device structures in order to realize ultra fast and ultra small silicon devices are investigated using ultra-high vacuum chemical vapor deposition(UHVCVD) and Excimer Laser Annealing (ELA). Based on these fundamental technologies for the deep sub-micron device, high speed and low power devices can be fabricated. These junction formation technologies based on damage-free process for replacing of low energy ion implantation involve solid phase diffusion and vapor phase diffusion. As a result, ultra shallow junction depths by ELA are analyzed to 10~20nm for arsenic dosage(2${\times}$10$\_$14//$\textrm{cm}^2$), exciter laser source(λ=248nm) is KrF, and sheet resistances are measured to 1k$\Omega$/$\square$ at junction depth of 15nm and realized sub-50nm n-MOSFET.

  • The MIM industry is currently focusing on parts that are used in automobiles and medical instruments. Many of the parts in these categories are very small and often not easy to machine because of its complex geometry. Therefore MIM is well suited for the production of these parts. We tested the sinterability of SUS316L ultra fine powders (3,4, 6, 8micron) produced by ATMIX high-pressure water-atomization, and it showed excellent results. A density of 97% theoretical was obtained by sintering at 1373K when using the ultra fine powder (3micron). Specifically, the finer the powder size, higher was the sintered density. The surface roughness and accuracy are also greatly improved with ATMIX ultra fine powder.

  • There is an increasing demands of more efficient and economical ways of mold making according to the spreading trend of small quantity batch production system. Therefore, this study aims to examine the applicability of ultra high strength concrete, which has a compressive strength over 80MPa, as a mold material. The ultra high strength concrete has several advantages such as lower cost, lighter weight and convenience of shape making compared to the traditional mold materials. Although the strength of the ultra high strength concrete is lower than that of the tool steel, it was considered to be useful for small batch processes with relatively low pressure. Therefore, in this study, a prototype mold for reaction injection molding of polyurethane was developed using ultra high strength concrete and it was examined that the possibility and characteristics of concrete as a mold material.

  • Narrow gap welding has many advantages over conventional V-grooved butt welding such as high productivity, small deformation and improved mechanical property of joints. With narrower groove gap, less arc heat input is expected will all the other advantages of narrow gap welding. The main defects of narrow gap welding include the lack of root fusion, convex bead surface and irregular surface, all of which have negative effects on the next welding pass. This paper suggests an up-and-down torch oscillation for ultra narrow gap welding with gap size of 5mm and investigates the proper welding conditions to fulfill the reliable and high welding quality. First, GMA welding model was suggested for ultra narrow gap welding system with Halmoy's model referenced for wire melting modeling. And the arc length in ultra narrow gap was defined. Secondly, based on the experimental results of up-and-down torch oscillation welding, phase shift of current and wire extension length were simulated for varying oscillation frequency to show that weld the bead shape in ultra narrow gap welding can be predicted. As the result, it was confirmed that reliable weld quality in ultra narrow gap welding can be achieved with up-and-down torch oscillation above 15Hz due to its ability to provide uniform heat input along the sidewall of gap.

  • This study present a direct steering system using rack and pinion for ultra-small vehicles. The traditional small vehicles for special use had the limitation of space by reason of short wheel tread. These vehicles has adopted a indirect steering system or a center arm system for steering. The disadvantages of these system were deterioration of gear efficiency and increase of parts. For direct-linkage to both knuckles, steering system is made up of out-side tie rods, tie-rod ends, and gear box. Thus, the proposed system has a minimum number of parts. The experimental results show a maximum efficiency at minimum steering angle and a minimum clearance circle. These effects were accomplished by adopting a Ackerman-Jantaud theory.

  • In ultra dense networks (UDNs), macro user equipments (MUEs) have significant interference from small-cell access points (SAPs) since a number of SAPs are deployed in the coverage of macro base stations of 5G mobile communication systems. In this paper, we propose a dynamic channel assignment scheme to increase the performance of MUEs for the uplink of UDNs even though the number of SAPs is increased. The target of the proposed dynamic channel assignment scheme is that the signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) of MUEs is above a given SINR threshold assigning different subchannels to SUEs from those of MUEs. Simulation results show that the proposed dynamic channel assignment scheme outperforms others in terms of the mean MUE capacity even though the mean SUE capacity is decreased a little lower.

  • We investigated the effects of salinity and three food species of microalgae on the growth of three types of the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis, with the aim of improving mass culture of rotifers in hatcheries. Three types (large, small, and ultra-small) of the rotifer were cultured at 16 ppt and 32 ppt salinity with the green algae Chlorella ellipsoidea, Nannochloris oculata, or Tetraselmis tetrathele. The maximum density and specific growth rate were compared for each rotifer type. Ultra-small rotifers grew significantly faster at 16 ppt salinity than at 32 ppt, and C. ellipsoidea and T. tetrathele promoted significantly higher growth than did N. oculata. However, small rotifers grew significantly better at 32 ppt salinity than at 16 ppt, and small rotifers fed on N. oculata achieved the highest density at 1,185 individuals/ml. Large rotifers grew faster at 16 ppt salinity than at 32 ppt, with a diet of T. tetrathele resulting in the fastest growth. Each type of rotifer thrived under different regimens of microalgae and salinity.

  • This paper presents the mechanical and microstructural properties of the geopolymer paste which was developed by utilizing the industrial by-products, rice husk ash (RHA) and ultra-fine slag. Ultra-fine slag particles with average particle size in the range of 4 to 5 microns. RHA is partially replaced with ultra-fine slag at different levels of 0 to 50%. Sodium silicate to sodium hydroxide ratio of 1.0 and alkaline liquid to binder (AL/B) ratio of 0.60 is taken. Setting time, compressive, flexural strengths were studied up to the age of 90 days with different concentrations of NaOH. The microstructure of the hybrid geopolymer paste was studied by performing the SEM, EDS, and XRD on the broken samples. RHA based geopolymer paste blended with ultrafine slag resulted in high compressive and flexural strengths and increased setting times of the paste. Strength increased with the increase in NaOH concentration at all ages. The ultra-small particles of the slag acted as a micro-filler into the paste and enhanced the properties by improving the CASH, NASH, and CSH. The maximum compressive strength of 70MPa was achieved at 30% slag content with 16M NaOH. The results of XRD, SEM, and EDS at 30% replacement of RHA with ultra-fine slag densified the paste microstructure.
