  • Today's manufacturing industry is facing challenges from advanced difficult-to-machine materials (WC-Co alloys, ceramics, and composites), stringent design requirements (high precision, complex shapes, and high surface quality), and machining costs. Advanced materials play an increasingly important role in modem manufacturing industries, especially, in aircraft, automobile, tool, die and mold making industries. The greatly-improved thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties of the material (such as improved strength, heat resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance), while having yielded enormous economic benefits to manufacturing industries through improved product performance and product design, are making traditional machining processes unable to machine them or unable to machine them economically. In this paper, mechanical characteristic evaluation test of fine powder type WC-Co alloy was accomplished to obtain clear data for miniaturized special die parts machining with high reliability and high quality.

  • Recently PZT is used in ultra precision mechanism field. PZT itself has a small driving range although it has a high resolution. Many methods, such as inchworm, impact driving, inertial sliding method, etc., have been applied for moving range expansion. In this study, a new actuating mechanism for rotational motion with two driving PZT is proposed. The Fixed-Fixed beam support is applied for compensation of the difference in driving force between expansion and contraction of PZT. The behavior and design parameters of the proposed mechanism are analyzed for improving performance.

  • This paper deals with the micro turning property of setting angle using diamond tool. The bed of the system has used the granite which has the thermal and vibrational characteristics superior to the cast iron bed for the common machine tool. To minimize the inner and outer vibration of the fuming system, an air pad system was manufactured and tested. The aero-static spindle system which has the excellent rotation accuracy was designed and manufactured. As a result of the micro-cutting test on aluminum alloy, tool setting angel have effected on surface roughness. From the results, the micro-cutting conditions hope to provide the useful actual data using in industrial fields.

  • Micro end-milling is one of effective technology that is able to do ultra-precision machining while increasing the productivity and has wide application field. But selection of machining condition is very difficult because of complicated machining mechanism. Therefore this study was carried out to select working factors to get the optimum surface roughness. Machining condition are depth of cut, feed rate and spindle revolution. The result of this study showed that Surface roughness was affected, in the other of depth of cut, spindle revolution, feed rate. And this study provided an regression equation relating surface roughness to working factors through Regression Analysis and determination coefficient of regression equation had a satisfactory reliability of 79%.

  • Recently, it has been studied machining of micro parts with increasing demands for ultra precision parts. However, many engineering problems have already begun in polishing of optical parts or lens. As a method to overcome such problems, a new technology for the polishing of the target surface is being studied by controlling abrasives using MR fluids which are sensitive to magnetic fields. Since the current MR polishing system uses a big electromagnet, and is difficult to polish micro parts or spherical lens. Therefore, in this study, a round endmill type MR polishing system was developed to polish a three-dimensional structure which has spherical or inclined plane. And then, series of experiments were performed to verify the polishing performance of the developed round endmill type MR polishing system.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine precise linear motion and rotary motion. A six-degrees-of-freedom fine motion mechanism is introduced to drive an object precisely in directions of X, Y and Z-axes and around them : three rectangular linear motion and rotary ones. An experimental mechanism is introduced in which a $70$\times$70$\times$70$\times$(${mm}^3$) cube object is driven by six PZT actuator. The study is to establish the six-degrees-of-freedom fine motion mechanism of linear motion and rotary motion using PZT actuator.

GAIA PARALLAX ZERO POINT FROM RR LYRAE STARS

  • Like Hipparcos, Gaia is designed to give absolute parallaxes, independent of any astrophysical reference system. And indeed, Gaia's internal zero-point error for parallaxes is likely to be smaller than any individual parallax error. Nevertheless, due in part to mechanical issues of unknown origin, there are many astrophysical questions for which the parallax zero-point error ${\sigma}({\pi}_0)$ will be the fundamentally limiting constraint. These include the distance to the Large Magellanic Cloud and the Galactic Center. We show that by using the photometric parallax estimates for RR Lyrae stars (RRL) within 8kpc, via the ultra-precise infrared period-luminosity relation, one can independently determine a hyper-precise value for ${\pi}_0$. Despite their paucity relative to bright quasars, we show that RRL are competitive due to their order-of-magnitude improved parallax precision for each individual object relative to bright quasars. We show that this method is mathematically robust and well-approximated by analytic formulae over a wide range of relevant distances.

  • The aspherical lens are used as objective lens of optical pickup. The sample product is made before manufacturing the injection mould of lens to examine the design factor. The optimum cutting conditions of the main spindle speed, the depth of cut, the feed rate are found when we cut PMMA and PC lens sample with ultra-precision SPDT. The demanded surface roughness 10 nm Ra, aspherical form error 0.5 ${\mu}m$ P-V for aspherical lens of optical data storage device are satisfied for PMMA, but not satisfied for PC.

  • 선박의 운동을 시뮬레이터 하기 위해서는 Pitch, Roll, Yaw의 세가지 선박 운동 요소를 시뮬레이터 할 수 있어야 한다. 이를 위해 선박의 운동을 시뮬레이터 할 수 있는 6축의 자유도를 가지는 모션 시뮬레이터를 설계 개발 하였다. Gyro Sensor based Servo Motion Control 알고리즘은 선박의 6자유도운동을 분석하여 그에 대응 할 수 있는 Motion Control 동요안정화 제어장치를 개발하였다.

  • In this paper, a new positioning method with incoherence of white light is described and practically implemented to attach VCR heads on a drum very accurately. This method utilizes the Michelson Interferometer which uses white light with short coherence length as the light source to generate interference fringes only in case the optical path difference is shorter than about 2.mu.m. The course position of VCR heads and the fine are determined by appearance and visibility of interference fringes, respectively. The appearance are detected by an image processing technique using FFT(Fast Fourier Transform).
