Reinforced Concrete (RC) shear walls are one of the civil structures in nuclear power plants to resist lateral loads such as earthquakes and wind loads effectively. Risk-informed and performance-based regulation in the nuclear industry requires considering possible accidents and determining desirable performance on structures. As a result, rather than predicting only the ultimate capacity of structures, the prediction of performances on structures depending on different damage states or various accident scenarios have increasingly needed. This study aims to develop machine-learning models predicting drifts of the RC shear walls according to the damage limit states. The damage limit states are divided into four categories: the onset of cracking, yielding of rebars, crushing of concrete, and structural failure. The data on the drift of shear walls at each damage state are collected from the existing studies, and four regression machine-learning models are used to train the datasets. In addition, the bagging ensemble method is applied to improve the accuracy of the individual machine-learning models. The developed models are to predict the drifts of shear walls consisting of various cross-sections based on designated damage limit states in advance and help to determine the repairing methods according to damage levels to shear walls.
This paper presents a method of the reliability analysis for a tension leg platform(TLP)in severe storm waves by using the first passage concept of the random tensile stress in the tendons. In the present method, two failure conditions are considered ;i.e., the exceedance of the ultimate tensile capacity and the occurrence of the negative tension. In order to consider the correlation effects between the failure events for each corner resulted from the rupture of all tencons at one corner, a new system limit state for a rectangular shaped TLP is developed, which is defined in terms of the TLP motions in the vertical plane ;i.e., heave, roll, and pitch. To illustrate the validity of the present method, the numerical analysis is carried out for two TLP's with different structural dimensions. Then, the results are compared with those by other methods.

With recent rapid increases in the power generation capacity of offshore wind power generators, reliable structural analysis of the large-scale infrastructure needed to install wind power generators at sea is required. Therefore, technology for heavy marine equipment such as barges and excavation equipment is needed. Under submarine conditions, rock drilling technology to install the substructure for offshore wind pile excavation is a very important factor in supporting a wind farm safely under dynamic loads over periods of at least 20 years. After investigating the marine environment and on-site ground excavation for the Saemangeum offshore wind farm, in this study we suggest.
As a key reinforcement connection between a tower and a substructure in offshore wind turbine system, the transition piece is inevitably subjected to cyclic dynamic environmental loads such as wind, current and wave. Therefore, well designed transition piece with high strength and good fatigue resistance is of great significance to the structural safety and reliability of offshore wind power systems. In this study, the structural behavior of the transition piece was studied by an extensive sets of finite element analyses. Three widely used types of transition piece were considered. The characteristics of stress development, fatigue life and weight depending on the type of the transition piece were investigated in the ultimate limit state (ULS) and the fatigue limit state (FLS) of a 5-MW offshore wind turbine to be placed in Korea. An optimal form of the transition piece was proposed based on this parametric study.
Two cases of design are performed for the hyperbolic paraboloid saddle shell (Lin-Scordelis saddle shell) and the hyperbolic cooling tower (Grand Gulf cooling tower) to check the design strength against a consistent design load, therefore to verify the adequacy of the design algorithm. An iterative numerical computational algorithm is developed for combined membrane and flexural forces, which is based on equilibrium consideration for the limit state of reinforcement and cracked concrete. The design algorithm is implemented in a finite element analysis computer program developed by Mahmoud and Gupta. The amount of reinforcement is then determined at the center of each element by an elastic finite element analysis with the design ultimate load. Based on ultimate nonlinear analyses performed with designed saddle shell, the analytically calculated ultimate load exceeded the design ultimate load from 7% to 34% for analyses with various magnitude of tension stiffening. For the cooling tower problem the calculated ultimate load exceeded the design ultimate load from 26% to 63% with similar types of analyses. Since the effective tension stiffening would vary over the life of the shells due to environmental factors, a degree of uncertainty seems inevitable in calculating the actual failure load by means of numerical analysis. Even though the ultimate loads are strongly dependent on the tensile properties of concrete, the calculated ultimate loads are higher than the design ultimate loads for both design cases. For the cases designed, the design algorithm gives a lower bound on the design ultimate load with respect to the lower bound theorem. This shows the adequacy of the design algorithm developed, at least for the shells studied. The presented design algorithm for the combined membrane and flexural forces can be evolved as a general design method for reinforced concrete plates and shells through further studies involving the performance of multiple designs and the analyses of differing shell configurations.

The concrete structural design provisions in Korea are based on ultimate strength design. Up to service load stage, it is assumed a linear stress-strain relation, but there is no stress-strain relationship for a concrete material from service load stage to limat state. According to the current provisions, an independent method is provided for the each calculation of deflection and crack width. In EC2 provisions based on limit state design, however, a stress-strain relationship of concrete is provided. Thereby, it is able to calculate a strength as well as a deflection directly from concrete stress-strain relationship. In this paper the moment-curvature relationship is directly calculated from a material law using equilibrium and compatibility conditions. Then strength and deflection are formulated. These results are compared with the values from the current provisions in Korea. From the results, the deflection based on a moment-curvature relationship is well agreed with experimental results and it is appeared that the deflection after the yielding of steel is also possible.

The ship plating is generally subjected to combined in-plane load and lateral pressure loads. In-plane loads include axial load and edge shear, which are mainly induced by overall hull girder bending and torsion of the vessel. Lateral pressure is due to water pressure and cargo. These load components are not always applied simultaneously, but more than one can normally exist and interact. Hence, for more rational and safe design of ship structures, it is of crucial importance to bitter understand the interaction relationship of the buckling and ultimate strength for ship plating under combined loads. Actual ship plates are subjected to relatively small water pressure except for the impact load due to slamming and panting etc. The present paper describes an accurate and fast procedure for analyzing the elastic-plastic large deflection behavior up to the ultimate limit state of ship plates under combined loads. In this paper, the ultimate strength characteristics of plates under axial compressive loads and lateral pressure loads are investigated through ANSYS elastic-plastic large deflection finite element analysis with varying lateral pressure load level.

Aging ships can suffer structural damage due to corrosion, fatigue crack etc., and possibility of catastrophic failure of seriously damaged ships is very high. To reduce the risk of loss of ships due to hull collapse, it is essential to evaluate ultimate hull strength of aging ships taking into account various uncertainties associated with structural damages. In this paper, ultimate strength-based reliability analysis of ship structures considering wear of structural members due to corrosion is described. A corrosion rate estimate model for structural members is introduced. An ultimate limit state function of a ship hull is formulated taking into account corrosion effects. The model is applied to an existing oil tanker, and reliability index associated with hull collapse is calculated by using the second-order reliability method (SORM). Discussions on structure safety of corroded ships are made.

Common structural rules of JBP(Joint Bulker Project) and JTP(Joint Tanker Project), which will come into effect in 2006, invoke the necessity of the ultimate limit state(ULS) design for ship structures. Even though the many applications of ULS analysis have been performed for ship structures, there have few studies carried out for deck machineries and their supporting structures. Recently four major Korean shipbuilders(DSME, HHI, HHIC, SHI) jointly developed and proposed a new design standards for mooring fittings and also proposed the SWL (Safety Working Load) obtained based on the first yield criterion. In this study, various ultimate strength analyses were performed for bollards and their foundation structures whose yield strengths were quantified by the research consortium. Prior to performing the ultimate strength analyses, the numerical calculation method was substantiated with the test results provided in the joint work report. Based upon the results of this study, it can be concluded that the reinforcements to increase the yield strength are not always resulted in the enhancement of the ultimate strength. Furthermore, the additional production costs for the reinforcements can not be rewarded by the ultimate strength. Therefore, another alternative arrangements should be developed in the view point of ultimate strength.

The purpose of this study is to practical use with increase safety, usablility and economical. In this study, the property of fatigue behavior was tested by comparing reinforced concrete and steel fiber reinforced concrete. The basic test, the static test and fatigue test were used as the research methods. Basic on the test, the material compressive strength test and split tensile strength test ware conducted 7 days and 28 days after the concrete was poured. In the static test, there ware four types of experimental variables of the steel fiber mixing ratio : 0.00%, 0.75%, 1.00%, and 1.25%. The ultimate load initial diagonal tension crack, and initial load of flexural cracking were all observed by static test. A methodology for the probabilistic assement of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) which takes into account material variability, confinement model uncertainty and the uncertainty in local and globa failure criteria is applied for the derivation of vulnerability curves for the serviceability and ultimate limit states, the reliability of SFRC using the proposed practical linear limit state model is evaluated by using the AFOSM(Advanced First Order Second Moment) method and MCS(monte-Calrosimulation) method.
