  • The objective of the study was to analyze the regional variance of late preterm birth (LPT: 34-36 weeks) by analyzing 2008-2012 birth certificated data of seven metropolitan cities (536,984 births: primiparous singleton birth) from Korea Statistics. The odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals were calculated from multinominal logistic regression analyses to describe the regional variance of LPT adjusted for maternal and infantile variables. The highest incidence of LPT rate by region were observed in Ulsan metropolitan city (3.7 percent), and the lowest in Deajon metropolitan city (3.1 percent). After adjustment by logistic regression for infantile sex, maternal variables, there was a significant increase in the risk of late preterm birth in Ulsan metropolitan city (odds ratio: 1.21) as compared with the incidence of LPT in Deajon metropolitan city. The odds ratio of LPT by region were 1.17 in Daegu metropolitan city, 1.13 Busan metropolitan city, and 1.12 in Incheon metropolitan city. More research is required to understand the risk factors for late preterm birth in this area including socio-demographic factors, medical factors, and regional and environmental factors.

The elderly people aged 65 and 1,274 persons or over in Ulsan Metropolitan City were selected as the subjects using the raw data of the 2015 community health survey. A multilevel analysis was conducted using a hierarchical linear model to find out the factors affecting the number of days of walking according to the level of regional level factor according to the five wards of Ulsan Metropolitan City. The number of walking days increased with the number of sports facilities and the number of walking days decreased with the number of amusement facilities mainly used by children. In the case of Jung-gu in Ulsan, the number of walking days was low even though the number of parks and the area of the park were large, In the case of Buk-gu, the number of walking was high even though the number of parks and the area of the park were small. Elderly people in Jung - gu, Ulsan metropolitan city are expected to need a health promotion project to promote walking, and it is necessary for seniors in Buk - gu, Ulsan Metropolitan City to make a good walking environment.

  • In this study, we investigated in pesticide residues and heavy metals in fermented liquor products (wine, beer, makgeolli). Targeted analysis of 400 pesticide residues in the sample was performed using the quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) extraction method, followed by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and LC-MS/MS. The contents of heavy metals (Pb, Cd) were determined by ICP-MS using the microwave method. The mercury was measured using a mercury analyzer. From the analysis of 150 cases, 102 (68.0%) cases of fermented liquor were detected, and 35 pesticide residues (including metalaxyl, mandipropamid, azoxystrobin, and fenhexamid) were detected among the 400 pesticide residues tested. Pb, Cd, and Hg were tested in 150 samples. Lead was detected in 73 samples (48.7%), cadmium in 9 samples (6.0%), and mercury in 36 samples (24.0%). Exposure assessment was conducted to determine the safety of the detected pesticide residues and heavy metals. According to this assessment, the pesticide residues and heavy metals showed very low %ADI values (less than 1%).

  • This study investigated pesticide residues in 367 agricultural products from local food markets in Ulsan. Pesticide residues in these samples were analyzed using multi class pesticide multi-residue methods on the Korean Food Code for 350 pesticides using GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS. Residual pesticides were detected in 79 (21.5%) samples and exceeded maximum residual limits (MRLs) in 4 (1.1%) samples (chwinamul, narrow-head ragwort, green onion, apricot). The range of the hazard index (%) was 0.0000-63.1043%, and values for the pesticides that violated the MRLs were 63.1043 (green onion), 0.5417 (chwinamul), 0.0684 (apricot), and 0.0100 (narrow-head ragwort). This risk assessment study showed that the values of hazard index (%) were less than 100%, indicating that the consumption of these local agricultural food products was not harmful for human health.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the heavy metal pollution of playgrounds of elementary schools in the Ulsan Metropolitan City. Soil pollution is one of the most dangerous problems of the utmost concern to both children and teachers. The result of this study would be an educational datum for improving children's health and establishing educational policy. Methods: For the analysis, fifteen representative schools were selected from five sample areas such as Dong-gu, Nam-gu, Jung-gu, Buk-gu and Ulju-gun of the Ulsan city. And from each school playground, soil was extracted from five spots and mingled into one sample. These fifteen samples were pretreated by the microwave extraction method, and the extracted heavy metals(As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Cr⁶⁺, Zn and Hg) were quantified by the ICP(Inductively Coupled Plasma) system. Results: The results of the analysis shows that the level of heavy metal pollution of elementary school playgrounds in Ulsan city did not exceed the permitted limit of each heavy metal. This means that the soil pollution of playgrounds in the Ulsan Metropolitan City is not so serious as it is expected. But it should be added that the soil is not too safe to be ignored.

The evaluative criteria of eating scale with 4 components - the eating atmosphere factor, the preference factor, the quality factor and the table factor- is described and interpreted in the context of consumption oriented culture. 4 clusters were decided through cluster analysis; preference and quality pursuing type, high involvement type, consumerism culture pursuing type and low involvement type. Among socio-economic variables, the evaluative criteria pattern of eating was significantly associated with occupation.
