  • The results of the specific radioactivity study for Rn-222 in mineral spring water of Khalzan mountain and Janchivlan of Mongolia, using the HP-Ge gamma-spectrometer, are discussed. Some physical and chemical properties in some sample of mineral spring water are determined.

Study on the Causes of Open Space Loss of Schools in Ulaanbaatar City (울란바타르시 학교 내 녹지 감소원인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the loss of open space of schools in Ulaanbaatar city and found out main causes of the conversion trend of open space to suggest alternatives. 76 designated sites were selected from 118 public schools within 6 districts of Ulaanbaatar city. These 76 schools were eligible for analysis of the open space change between 2005 and 2015 with Google Earth Pro. The results showed that $175,048m^2$ open space was developed and two dominant types of open space conversion were found; 1) constructions of school facilities such as soccer field, extended school buildings, parking lot, sidewalk, and square, and 2) constructions of apartment buildings and service facilities such as community center, pedestrian, sports facilities, and parking lot. Apartment complex development has commonly happened in all districts and caused bigger open space loss than other types of development. Chingeltei district is located in the center of Ulaanbaatar city, and schools in this district lost the biggest open space, $50,036m^2$/35.24% over 10 years. The rate of open space loss seemed to be related to the distance from the urban center and open space loss was an ongoing event in Ulaanbaatar city. This trend would not be improved without a strong regulation, so, in this study, making strict regulations that prevent conversions of open space were suggested to conserve open space in Ulaanbaatar city.

  • The specific radioactivity concentrations of $\^$238/U, $\^$232/Th, $\^$40/K were measured in soil samples around Zuunmod town of Mongolia using HP-Ge gamma-spectrometer. Also the specific radioactivity concentrations of above elements were measured in coal and ash samples which were collected from the Central steam heating in Zuunmod town. It was determined the effective equivalent dose.

  • The results of the measured specific activities of Rn-222 in water for public water supply pump houses (wells) of Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia using the HP-Ge gamma-spectrometer, are described. The average of the specific radioactivies for the Rn-222 were for the station “Centre” 82.59 Bq/l, station “Combinat” 91.35 Bq/l and station “Makh” 158.25 Bq/l, respectively.

  • The results of the measured specific activities of Rn-222 in sewerage and drinking water of Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia using the HP-Ge gamma-spectrometer, solid state nuclear track detector and liquid scintillator, are compared. The specific radioactivity for the Rn-222 in water of Ulaanbaatar City ranged 10-250 Bk/l, with an average of 110 Bk/l.

  • The purpose of this study is to discourage urban sprawl that optimize the use of natural resources and reduce demand for transportation, energy consumption, and also protect green and blue networks. For this purpose, this study discusses about the Sustainable Development (SD), urban systems toward SD and defines the concepts and the goals of Green Compact City (GCC). It then finds out the basic planning strategies to agree with GCC. Based on these strategies, it reviews the foreign case study, to obtain a mainly significance development of these planning strategies. As well as then conducts a questionnaire survey to experts and residents of Ulaanbaatar (UB) city to obtain a better understanding of the current condition and the most significant planning strategies in UB city. Therefore the basic planning strategies which can more suits in UB city and it could be the GCC is derived from the most complied planning strategies in other developed countries compared with most significant planning strategies in UB city.

  • Ulaanbaatar city, the capital of Mongolia and the center of Mongolian economy, increasingly needs to have a long-term urban planning and a system to impose a tax on land effectively as insufficient development of land and the moving of nomad into urban areas increases during its rapid growth. Therefore, Mongolian government has to prepare a land management system which provides the infrastructure to improve work efficiency and service quality by integrating digitalized data about land and main facilities and sharing data between related departments. This research analyzed the environment to operate the existing land management system and working environment and redesigned database. Furthermore, it integrated all the existing systems, configured service network, and made working environment for land registration, land permission, land payment management to be processed online. With this, it provides the foundation to improve quality of people's life through the preparation of long term urban planning, clean tax administration of real estate, and reconsideration of efficiency about urban infrastructure investment.

  • This paper summarizes a preliminary geoid computation for western Mongolia, utilizing the airborne data collected fall 2004, as part of the NGA-DNSC-ALAGaC-MonMap cooperative airborne gravity project. A gravimetric geoid has been computed using the airborne gravity data, SRTM terrain models and GRACE/EGM global fields. The gravimetric geoid has subsequently been fitted to GPS-leveling data across Western Mongolia, as well as for a special Ulaanbaatar city geoid model.
