Recently, ubiquitous computing and sensor networks are making a rapid development. These technology can enable a new way of biomedical signal processing and healthcare. that is, they can improve care giving by a more flexible acquisition of relevant vital sign data, and by providing more convenience for patients. In this paper, we realize the biomedical sensor networks by applying IEEE 802.15.4/Zigbee networks to some various biomedical sensing unit. For address this, we developed minimized zigbee module and set-up procedure using PDA. The main advantages that we achieve are interference-free operation of different body sensor networks in the vicinity, as well as intuitive usage by the nontechnical personnel.

For realizing an ubiquitous home network(uHome-net), various sensors should be able to be connected to an integrated wire/wireless sensor network. This paper describes an application case of applying LonWorks technology being widely used in control network to wire/wireless sensor network in uHome-net and the design and application of LonRF device that consists of a neuron chip including LonTalk protocol, a 433.92MHz RF transceiver, a sensor, and application programs. As an application example of the LonRF device, the LonRF smart badge that can measure the 3D location of objects in indoor environment and interwork with the uHome-net was developed. LonRF device based home network services were realized on the uHome-net testbed such as indoor positioning service, remote surveillance service and remote metering service were realized. This research shows that LonWorks technology based sensor network could be applicable to the control network in an ubiquitous home network and the LonRF device can be used as a wireless node in various sensor networks.
Sensor networks applications can be employed by a vast range of applications. Environmental information monitoring systems and ecosystem surveillance are representative application using sensor networks. But, limited battery capacity of sensor node is a key feature that determines lifetime of networks and system. It also affects quality of collected data. We recognized factors that affects lifetime of environment sensor nodes through the experiment of environment information system deployed over campus. We will show useful proposals for future construction of sensor network application systems.

Ubiquitous computing is one of the key technology areas in the "Project on Development of Ubiquitous computing and network technology" promoted by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a frontier business of the $21^{st}$ century in Korea, which is based on the new concept merging physical space and computer-based cyber space. With recent advances in Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) technology, low cost and low-power consumption wireless micro sensor nodes have been available. Using these smart sensor nodes, there are many activities to monitor real world, for example, habitat monitoring, earthquake monitoring and so on. In this paper, we introduce web-based real environment monitoring system incorporating wireless sensor nodes. It collects sensing data produced by some wireless sensor nodes and stores them into a database system to analyze. Our environment monitoring system is composed of a networked camera and environmental sensor nodes, which are called Mica2 and developed by University of California at Berkeley. We have modified and ported network protocols over TinyOS and developed a monitoring application program using the MTS310 and MTS420 sensors that are able to observe temperature, relative humidity, light and accelerator. The sensed data can be accessed user-friendly because our environment monitoring system supports web-based user interface. Moreover, in this system, we can setup threshold values so the system supports a function to inform some anomalous events to administrators. Especially, the system shows two useful pre-processed data as a kind of practical uses: a discomfort index and a septicity index. To make both index values, the system restores related data from the database system and calculates them according to each equation relatively. We can do enormous works using wireless sensor technologies, but just environment monitoring. In this paper, we show just one of the plentiful applications using sensor technologies.

In the sensor network, a lot of sensor nodes are scattered sparsely and organizes a united communication network between each node. After that, environmental information around each sensor node are gathered and analyzed. Because each node operates under resource constraint, the efficiency and hardware specification of a node should be maximized. There exist technical constraints until now but recent technical progress in IC fabrication and wireless network enables to construct a tiny embedded system, which has the properties of low cost, low power consumption, multi functions. Wireless sensor network becomes a modern research field with technical improvements, is studied in numerous laboratories, and is called as diverse different project names - Wireless Integrated Network Sensors (WINS), Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET), Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN). TinyOS is one of leading project and is widely used. In this paper, we suggest a sensor network, which uses TinyOS platforms and aims for context awareness in a home environment.

In this article a novel constant amplitude precoding for impulse UWB system is proposed. According to IEEE 802.15.4a, impulse UWB can be used in indoor localization and sensor data transmission. Most USN(ubiquitous sensor networks) needs multiple access. However impulse UWB system has a limited capability to detect superpositioned signal induced by multiple access. To overcome this problem we have adopted the concept of CAMC(Constant Amplitude Multi-Code) deviced by Wada and Kim. The proposed system consists of systematic constant amplitude precoding and LDPC decoding. And this system shows a good BER performance in computer simulation.

Recently, it is progressing a study for supporting various application services using OpenAPI(Application Program Interface). But it is not enough a study related OpenAPI(Open Application Interface) to access many collected context data of sensor networks for ubiquitous application services. Therefor, this paper presents Pull/Push service model based on sensor networks, and implements OpenAPI fer Pull/push application services. And, we design and implement OpenAPI using web service for Pull application services. This Pull OpenAPI supports users the context data of temperature and humidity using the remote service based on .Net framework in sensor networks. And, we design and implement OpenAPI using TCP/IP socket interface for Push application services in sensor network. This Push OpenAPI provides users a state of temperature, humidity collecting in sensor networks. Consequently, user can develop easily various application services as supporting OpenAPI instead of closed application interface of sensor networks based on existed specific database.

Maintenance systems are demanded to manage malodor-information and deal effectively with the odor-related civil complaints by constructing the database for sources of malodor compounds in real time. In this paper, to carry out these tasks, a real-time monitering system for malodor based on ubiquitous sensor networks(USN) is presented. The constructed monitering system stores the malodor data collected periodically from industrial complex into the database and shows in real time the circumstances of the odor sources being emitted around the industrial complex by indicating on the map where it is taking place. Besides, by clicking an icon indicating the sensor node on the map, we can figure out what firms are located near the malodor source and possible material related with those firms. The proposed system is considered to enhance the efficiency of management of malodor-emitting firms based on the malodor-related information.

In this paper, a new cluster configuration process is proposed. The energy consumption of sensor nodes is reduced by configuring the initial setup process only once with keeping the initial cluster. Selecting the highest power consumed node of the member nodes within the cluster to the header of next round can distribute power consumption of all nodes in the cluster evenly. With this proposed way, the lifetime of the USN is increased by the reduced energy consumption of all nodes in the cluster. Also, evenly distributed power consumptions of sensors are designed to improve the energy hole problem. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is confirmed through simulations.

Most of the current research works on high-technology is being carried on to provide ubiquitous services to people. To make that possible, ubiquitous computing networks should be deployed in the first place, where ubiquitous sensor network (USN) will take a very big role. This paper is devoted to introduce a new transmission technique to make USN more independent and reliable as an infra-structure for ubiquitous services. The proposed scheme can elevate the network performance by ensuring the reliability of data transmission. Especially, the proposed scheme can reduce network traffic and communication cost by detecting data error without additional data and communication. In addition, it has an advantage of using the legacy routing protocols.
