A Modified UWB Channel Model Considering The Circular Polarization Wave in Indoor Radio Propagation Environments (실내무선전파환경에서의 원형편파 전파를 고려한 수정된 UWB 채널 모델)

  • 협대역 다중접속 방식의 한계를 벗어난 Ultra-wide band(UWB) 기술이 고속 데이터 전송을 위해 많이 개발되어지고 있다. UWB 시스템은 방사전력 제한을 두고 있어서 근거리 실내 무선통신 분야에서 활용 범위가 확대되고 있다. 하지만 실내 무선 환경에서는 벽, 천장, 바닥 그리고 실내에 위치한 장애물 등에 의한 다중경로 페이딩 영향으로 초고속 실내 무선통신 서비스를 제공하는데 어려움이 있다. 이러한 실내 다중경로 성분에 의한 페이딩을 경감시키는 여러 가지 방법 중에서 원형편파를 이용하면, 상대적으로 긴 지연을 갖는 강한 다중경로 성분을 효과적으로 제거할 수가 있기 때문에 수신신호의 RMS 지연 감소, 페이딩 경감 및 신호강도 개선효과 등을 얻을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 원형편파를 고려한 수정된 UWB 채널의 파라미터를 수정 정립하였고, 수정된 채널모델을 UWB 시스템에 적용하여 성능 개선을 시도하였다.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of pulse position modulation-time hopping ultra wide band (PPM-TH UWB) systems with antenna diversity technique in indoor wireless channel. A modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model is adopted as a UWB indoor channel model. Perfect synchronization between a transmitter and a receiver is assumed. Therefore, coherent equal gain combining (EGC) scheme to collect the energy available in the multipath components is investigated. It is shown that the performance is improved by increasing the number of antennas at the receiver. The results of this paper can be applied to the applications of UWB.

  • In this paper, we suggest the novel MIMO-UWB transceiver structure which can easily be adapted for various MIMO schemes and presents MIMO channel model for obtaining correlation characteristics among channels to analyze the performance. From the indoor channel modeling, we obtain the interferences among antennas due to the MIMO channel formation through numerical simulation and analyze the performance of MIMO-UWB system under frequency selective fading. Especially, to reduce the excessive computational complexity due to the inverse matrix computation of channel transfer function, we take the scheme combining the transmitting signals estimated from each receiving antenna after recovering each transmitting antenna signal from a receiving antenna.

  • Recently wireless intra-vehicle communication has received a great interest from the automotive industry and ultra wideband (UWB) technology is considered as one of the potential candidate for this system. Many research works have been done on the measurement and modeling of intra-vehicle communication channel. However, very little work has been reported for the performance analysis of various PHY layer methods under the intra-vehicle communication environment. This paper is to study IEEE 802.15.4a standard in intra-vehicle channel and to evaluate its performance. Channel model in chassis and engine compartment is considered for evaluation. Through simulation BER performance of system with different receiver structures is analyzed.

  • The implementation of a common control channel is one of the most challenging issues in cognitive radio networks, since a fully reliable control channel cannot be created without reserving bandwidth specifically for this purpose. In this paper, we investigate a promising solution that exploits the ultra wide band (UWB) technology to let cognitive radio nodes discover each other and exchange control information for establishing a communication link. The contribution of this paper is threefold: (i) We define the communication protocol needed to let cognitive radio nodes discover each other and exchange control information for link set up, (ii) we overcome the gap in coverage, which typically exists between UWB and long-medium range technologies, by using multi-hop communication, (iii) we evaluate the performance of our approach by adopting an accurate channel model and show its benefits with respect to an in-band signaling solution.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of ultra wide band (UWB) systems in indoor wireless channel in accordance with the number of pulses per bit at transmit signals and the decision types of receiver. The indoor channel is modeled as the modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model which has been proposed as a UWB channel model by the IEEE group, IEEE 802.15.SG3a. Two types of UWB signals are considered One is the pulse position modulation-time hopping (PPM-TH) signal. And the other is the pulse amplitude modulation-direct sequence (PAM-DS) signal. It is assumed that the receiver is an ideal receiver which can receive all signals of the multipath.

  • This paper proposes an efficient scheme to estimate the channel parameters such as channel gain and delay for the IEEE802.15.4a LR-UWB systems. Sliding window (SW) method is generally used for the channel estimation of LR-UWB systems, which extracts the channel parameters by performing the cross-correlation with the repeatedly transmitted signal. However, the SW method experiences the severe performance degradation because the cross-correlation is performed just once for the received signal. In this paper, we propose a novel channel estimation scheme, which can achieve a great performance gain by performing the cross-correlation repeatedly with the repeated receive signal. In order to verify the performance gain of the proposed scheme, we performed the intensive simulation with the Saleh-Valenzuela channel model. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a performance improvement of 4dB compared to the conventional SW channel estimation scheme.

  • In the case of Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS), common telecommunication systems typically have Rayleigh distributed amplitude characteristics. However measurement result of Ultra Wideband (UWB) Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) system which is proposed as one of candidate standard in IEEE 802. 15. 3a for Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) shows that it has independent log normal fading in each cluster as well as in each ray within the cluster. Based on this clustering phenomenon observed, MB-OFDM channel model derived from Saleh-Valenzuela model with a couple of slight modifications. In this paper, channel remodeling for RF frequency hopping in MB-OFDM system is achieved, and performances of MB-OFDM system for each channel mode and data rate are verified using modified channel model.

  • In this paper, we analyzed channel performance of PPM modulated UWB communication system in indoor radio fading environment that consider amplitude characteristic of channel. Fading channel considered various channel environments by fading index m utilizing Nakagami-m distribution model with data through an UBW radio signal experiment that announced in existing. Also, we improved performance of system that it is decreased in fading environment employing convolution encoding techniques.
