An artificial photoreceptor composed of bacteriorhodopsin(bR)/flavin complex Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films was developed by mimicking the human visual system. bR and flavin molecules were deposited onto solid substrate by LB technique, and the deposition of two molecules was proved by UV/VIS absorption spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy(AFM). Based on AFM images and photocurrent generation from the LB films, the optimal conditions for device fabrication were determined. With a series of light illuminations, the generated photocurrent could be detected, and the response characteristics of two molecules could be clearly distinguished from each other. According to the obtained signal shapes, three distinctive regions could be found in the obtained action spectrum. Using a correlation between the photocurrent generation and the wavelength of the input light, it was possible to organize the basic rules to interpret the wavelength of the input light. It is concluded that the proposed artificial photoreceptor would e applicable to the bioelectronic device for color recognition.

The red emission properties of $Bi^{3+}$ co-doped $Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ prepared by the solid-state reaction was investigated, in order to verify its potential to act as the red emitting phosphor of white LEDs. The emission spectrum consisted of a weak band at 581, 587, 5931 and 599 nm, with maximum sharp peaks occurring at about 611 nm due to the $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_2$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$, while the excitation spectrum exhibited a broad band between 290 and 430 mm with peaks occurring in the range of $310{\sim}390nm$. Also, SEM image of the sample containing 0.43 mol% $H_3BO_3$ and 2.08 mol% $BaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ phosphor particles grew to achieve diameters of $700{\sim}800nm$.
The antimicrobial substance produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa KLP-2 strain was purified and identified. The substance was identified as a pyocyanine by the fast atom bombardment mass(FAB-MS). In physic-chemical properties, the pyocyanine was dark blue needles, and was soluble in various organic solvents such as chlorogorm, methanol, ethanol and ethyl acetae. The pyocyanine possessed a ultraviolet absorbance spectrum in methanol, 0.1 M HCl, and chlorogorm. The maximum absorption peak of the pyocyanine showed at 318 mm in methanol. The molecular formula of the pyocyanine was determined to the $C_{13}$ H$_{10}$ N$_{2}$O and protonate molecular ion species (M+H)$^{+}$ was observed at m/z 211 by FAB-MS. The pyocyanine showed antimicrobial against Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Rodococcus equi, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, E. col, Legionella pneumophila, Shigella flexneri Shigella boydii, shgella sonnei, NAG Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibro vulnificus, Yersinia enterocolitica, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. However, Salmonella spp. Shigela dysenteriae, 3 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiela pneumoniae, and Aspergillus niger were resistant to the pyocyanine. The pyocyanine showed the highest antimicrobial activity aganist Legionella pneumophila based on the size of inhibition zone by the disk contained 0.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$ of the pyocyanine.e.

Ethoxylacetyl oxime ligands [HL, (1) and $H_2L^1$, (3)] react with copper(II) acetate monohydrate yield octahedral and square planar complexes, respectively. The complexes have been postulated due to elemental analyses, IR, UVVis. spectra, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity and ESR spectra. Molar conductance of the complexes in DMF indicates a non-ionic character. The ESR spectra of [$(L)_2Cu(H_2O)_2$], (2) complex at room temperature and 77K are characteristic of an axial symmetry ($d_{x2-y2}$) with covalent bond character and have a large line width typical of dipolar interactions. However, [$(L^1)Cu$], (4) complex in the solid state showed spectra of marked broadening and loss of hyperfine splitting confirming spinexchange interactions between the copper(II) sites. The spectrum of the doped copper(II) complex at room temperature showed super-hyperfine splitting from coordinated nitrogen atoms and it has an axial type ($d_{x2-y2}$) with covalent bond character and an essentially square-planar arrangement around the copper(II) ion. The spectrum of [$(L^1)Cu$], (4) in frozen methanol at 77K was characteristic of the triplet state of a dimer species and the distance found between the two copper(II) centers was calculated and is equal to 4.8 ${\AA}$.
UVR-induced immunosuppression contributes to skin cancer. The aim was to construct accurate dose response curves for primary and secondary contact sensitivity for solar-simulated UVR (ssUVR; 290-400nm), UVA and UVB as the role of UVA in immunosuppression is controversial. We used a xenon arc source. The mice were immobilised, enabling accurate dosing. C57BL/6 mice were immunosuppressed at half the dose of ssUVR required to cause sunburn but not by higher doses (up to the sunburn dose). Thus, ssUVR causes systemic immunosuppression only over a narrow, low dose range. UVA caused suppression at low but not high doses whereas UVB induced immunosuppression at all doses tested. 8 weeks later the mice were resensitised to assess tolerance. Mice exposed to the minimum immunosuppressive dose of ssUVR prior to primary sensitisation were tolerant to re-sensitisation. However, at higher doses of ssUVR, these mice were protected from tolerance. Interestingly, while low doses of UV A caused immunosuppression, even lower doses enhanced the response to the second sensitisation. Higher doses of UVA had no affect. UVB induced tolerance in a dose related manner. Thus, ssUVR only induces immunosuppression and tolerance over a narrow dose range. Both UVA and UVB are immunosuppressive at this dose, while higher doses of UVA protect from the suppressive effects of UVB. Surprisingly very low doses of UVA enhanced memory development. Thus UVR has complex effects on the immune system depending on dose and spectrum.

To study the encapsulation method for large-area organic light emitting devices (OLEDs), OLED of ITO / 2-TNATA / NPB / $Alq_3$:Rubrene / $Alq_3$ / LiF / Al structure was fabricated, which on $Alq_3$/LiF/Al as protective layer of OLED was deposited to protect the damage of OLED, and subsequently it was encapsulated using attaching film and flat glass. The current density and luminance of encapsulated OLED using attaching film and flat glass has similar characteristics compared with non-encapsulated OLED when thickness of Al as a protective layer was 1200 nm, otherwise power efficiency of encapsulated OLED was better than non-encapsulated OLED. Encapsulation process using attaching film and flat glass did not have any effects on the emission spectrum and the Commission International de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinate. The lifetime of encapsulated OLED using attaching film and flat glass was 287 hours in 1200 nm Al thickness, which was increased according to thickness of Al protective layer, and was improved 54% compared with 186 hours in same Al thickness, lifetime of encapsulated OLED using epoxy and flat glass. As a result, it showed the improved efficiency and the long lifetime, because the encapsulation method using attaching film and flat glass could minimize the impact on OLED caused through UV hardening process in case of glass encapsulation using epoxy.
New candidates composed of anthracene and 4-alkylethynylbenzene end-capped oligomers for OTFTs were synthesized under Sonogashira coupling reaction conditions. All oligomers were characterized by FT-IR, mass, UV-visible, and PL emission spectrum analyses, cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), $^1H$-NMR, and $^{13}C$-NMR. Investigation of their physical properties showed that the oligomers had high oxidation potential and thermal stability. Thin films of DHPEAnt and DDPEAnt were characterized by spin coating them onto Si/$SiO_2$ to fabricate top-contact OTFTs. The devices prepared using DHPEAnt and DDPEAnt showed hole field-effect mobilities of $4.0{\times}10^{-3}cm^2$/Vs and $2.0{\times}10^{-3}cm^2$/Vs, respectively, for solution-processed OTFTs.

A hyper branched 10-butylphenothiazine with in-situ thermally curable methacrylate (1,3,5-tris-[$\{$10-Butyl-3-(4-(2-methyl-acryloyloxy)-phenyl)-7-yl-10H-phenothiazine$\}$]-benzene, (tris-PTMA)) was synthesized successfully. From the TGA thermogram of tris-PTMA was thermally stable up to $336^{\circ}C$. In the first heating scan of DSC thermogram, tris-PTMA showed glass transition temperature (Tg) at $140^{\circ}C$ and broad endothermic process in the region of $144-179^{\circ}C$, which is thermally curing temperature. In the second heating process, $T_g$ exhibited at $158.7^{\circ}C$ and endothermic process was not observed. Thermally cured tris-PTMA showed no big change in the UV-visible spectrum after washing with organic solvent such as methylene chloride, chloroform, toluene, indicating that thermally cured film was very good solvent resistance. Thermally cured tris-PTMA was electrochemically stable and the HOMO energy level of tris-PTMA was -5.54 eV. The maximum luminance efficiency of double layer structured polymer light-emitting diode based on in-situ thermally cured tris-PTMA was 0.685 cd/A at 16.0 V, which was higher than that of the device without thermally cured tris-PTMA (0.348 cd/A at 15.0 V).

We report the electro-optical properties of the sensory rhodopsin II using a near-field scanning microwave microscope(NSMM). Rhodopsin was known as a photoreceptor pigment with a retinal as a chromophore via a protonated Schiff base and consists of seven ${\alpha}-helical$ transmembrane segments. The sensory rhodopsin II, expressing E. coli UT5600 with endogenous retinal biosynthesis system and purified with $Ni^{-2}-NTA$ affinity chromatography in the presence of 0.02 % DM (Dodecyl Maltoside) from Natronomonas pharaonis. We measured the absorption spectra and the transients difference of sensory rhodopsin II from Natronomonas pharaonis using a UV/VIS spectrophotometer with Nd-Yag Laser (532 nm). The absorption spectra of NpSR II showed a typical rhodopsin spectrum with a left shoulder region and the photointermediates spectra of NpSR II-ground state (${\lambda}max=498\;nm$), NpSR II-M state (${\lambda}max=390\;nm$), and NpSR II-O state (${\lambda}max=550\;nm$) during the photocycle. The observed photocycle reaction was confirmed by measuring the microwave reflection coefficient $S_{11}$ at an operating frequency of f=3.93-3.95 GHz and compared with the results of a photocycle of NpSR II.
The gene encoding Thermus thermophilus HJ6 laccase (Tt-laccase) was cloned, sequenced, and comprised of 1,389 nucleotides encoding a protein (462 amino acids) with a predicted molecular mass of 51,049 Da. The deduced amino acid sequence of Tt-laccase showed 99.7% and 44.3% identities to the Thermus thermophilus HB27 laccase and Synechococcus sp. RS9917 laccase, respectively. Tt-laccase gene was expressed as a fusion protein with six histidine residues in E. coli Rosetta-gami (DE3) cells, and the recombinant protein was purified to homogeneity. UV-Vis spectrum analysis revealed that the enzyme has copper atoms, a type I Cu(II) and a type III binuclear Cu(II). The optimum pH for the oxidation of guaiacol was 5.0 and the optimum temperature was $90^{\circ}C$ The half-life of heat inactivation was about 120 min at $90^{\circ}C$ The enzyme reaction was inhibited by sodium azide, L-cystein, EDTA, dithiothreitol, tropolone, and kojic acid. The enzyme oxidized various known laccase substrates, its lowest $K_m$ value being for 4-hydroxyindole, highest $k_{cat}$ value for syringaldazine, and highest $k_{cat}/K_m$ for guaiacol.
