  • Dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) 생산과정의 부산물로서 폐기 처리되어왔던 methyl 4-formylbenzoate (MFB)를 출발 물질로하여 고급 형광증백제 family인 Uvitex FP와 동일한 4,4'-di((E)-styryl)-1,1'-biphenyl 기본 골격을 갖는 새로운 형광증백제(fluorescent whitening agent) 후보 물질 6종을 합성하였다. 후보 물질 6종은 MFB 및 그의 유도체와 tetraethyl biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(methylene) diphosphonate (3)와 Wittig-Horner 반응을 이용하여 합성하였다. 합성된 6종에 대하여 형광증백제로의 가능성을 확인하기 위하여 UV spectrum을 기록하여 몰흡광 계수를 얻었으며, 6종 모두 Uvitex FP 127(log ${\varepsilon}$ 4.85)보다 낮은 몰흡광 계수(log ${\varepsilon}$ 3.95~2.60)를 보임으로서 형광증백제로는 적합하지 못한 것을 확인하였다.

천연과 CVD 합성 다이아몬드의 감별을 위한 물성 연구 (Properties of the Natural and CVD Synthetic Diamonds for Identification)

  • Recently, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) synthetic diamonds have been introduced to the jewelry gem market, as CVD technology has been making considerable advances. Unfortunately, CVD diamonds are not distinguishable from natural diamonds when using the conventional gemological characterization method. Therefore, we need to develop a new identification method that is non-destructive, fast, and inexpensive. In our study, we employed optical microscopy and spectroscopy techniques, including Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR), UV-VIS-NIR, photoluminescence (PL), micro Raman, and cathodoluminescent (CL) spectroscopy, to determine the differences between a natural diamond (0.30 cts) and a CVD diamond (0.43 cts). The identification of a CVD diamond was difficult when using standard gemological techniques, UV-VIS-NIR, or micro-Raman spectroscopy. However, a CVD diamond could be identified using a FT-IR by the Type II peaks. In addition, we identified a CVD diamond conclusively with the uneven UV fluorescent local bands, additional satellite PL peaks, longer phosphorescence life time, and uneven streaks in the CL images. Our results suggest that using FT-IR combined with UV fluorescent images, PL, and CL analysis might be an appropriate method for identifying CVD diamonds.

자외선 조사에 따른 태양전지 보호용 EVA의 열화 (The degradation of EVA for the protection of solar cell by UV-rays irradiation)

  • We studied the degradation of EVA for the protection of solar cell by UV-rays irradiation. We investigated the reduction of electrical efficiency, photo transmmitance and degradation of EVA by UV-rays irradiation. We utilized the UV irradiation equiped with fluorescent 313nm UV lamp and radiated for 400 hours. For the chemial analysis, we used the UV-vis spectrometer, XPS and examined the degradation mechanism by UV irradiation. It is found that the discolored phenomena, the decrease of photo transmmitance and oxidation reaction is occured by UV irradiation on the EVA sample for the protection of solar cell.

UV 형광과 X-선 Lang 표면이미지를 이용한 천연유색다이아몬드의 감별 연구 (Identification of natural colored diamonds using UV fluorescent and X-ray Lang images)

  • 보석용 다이아몬드의 합성, 처리기술의 발달로 천연 유색다이아몬드를 신속하고, 경제적이고, 재현성있게 감별할 필요가 커지고 있다. 천연다이아몬드의 감별을 위해 UV광원에 의한 다이아몬드의 형광 이미지 분석과 X-ray Lang 분석을 통하여 4개의 천연 유색다이아몬드와 1개의 합성 유색다이아몬드를 분석하여 보았다. 천연다이아몬드가 UV 형광이미지와 X-선 Lang분석에 대해 상대적으로 균일한 이미지를 보임에 비해 합성석은 국부적으로 균일한 이미지를 보여 효과적인 감별이 가능하였다. 특히 X-선 Lang 이미지 분석이 천연 유색다이아몬드의 감별에 더 높은 분해능으로 효과적인 감별이 가능하였다.

UV 임프린트 공정을 이용한 평면 광회로 기반 형광 산소 센서 프로브 모듈 제작 (Fabrication of Fluorescent Oxygen Sensor Probe Module Based on Planner Lightwave Circuits using UV Imprint Lithography)

  • 본 논문에서는 UV 임프린트 기반의 평면 광 회로층을 이용한 산소농도 검출용 집적형 형광 프로브 모듈을 제안하였다. 제안된 형광 프로부 모듈은 광원과 형광 신호를 고효율로 전송할 수 있게 동일 광 경로를 가지는 비대칭 $1{\times}2$ 빔 분배기 형태로 설계되었으며, 이를 UV 임프린트 공정을 통해 제작하였다. 제작된 광 회로층의 끝단에 최적의 형광 염료 농도로 센서막을 코팅하여 산소 농도 검출용 광학 프로브 모듈을 구현하였다. 제작된 형광 프로부 모듈을 이용한 산소 농도 측정용 센서 시스템은 0%에서 20%의 가스 농도 범위에서 약 0.3%의 분해능까지 산소 농도를 검출 할 수 있었다. 이러한, 평면 광회로 기반의 형광 프로브 모듈은 저가의 집적형 산소 센서 검출 시스템을 가능하게 하여, 화학분야, 바이오 분야, 그리고 대기 및 수질 환경을 모니터링 하는 분야에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

누에고치의 분광성에 관한 계통별 변이 및 한성적 발현 (Variation and Sex-limited Expression of Fluorescent Color by Ultraviolet Spectrum on the Silkworm Cocoon)

  • Ultraviolet weavelength (UV) of 366 nm produced clearer fluorescent dolor than that of 254 nm for the inspection of silkworm cocoons. Fluorescent color of silkworm cocoons varied in color, appears no relationship with the natural color under the normal light. Uniformity of fluorescent color was improved by selection of blue or yellow line from wild types. Blue and yellow, located at the opposite poles on the color solid and L*a*b* color system, confirmed as pure standard of fluorescent color in the silkworm races for commercial white cocoons. the cocoons with blue fluorescence occupied as high as 1.7 to 8.6 times than those with yellow in the Japanese silkworm races. Fluorescence of silkworm cocoon was not affected by forced flow dry at 70$^{\circ}C$ for 6 hrs. While the Japanese races revealed no sexual difference in fluorescent color, sex-dependence of the color was common in the Chinese races for commercial white cocoon. The fluorescence of cocoon shell of Chinese races showed clear separation of blue of median color. Silkworm strain of Dc20 and Fc24 were sexualy segregated 98.8${\pm}$1.20%, 99.0${\pm}$1.00% by cocoon fluorescence, as that of 99.3${\pm}$0.44% by typical larval marking of sex-limited inheritance. Specific expression of cocoon fluorescence, applicable to breeding of simple discrimination of sex for Chinese races, inspected thoroughly on the surface and inner layer of cocoon shell.

Rutile-$TiO_2$를 이용한 Mordant Yellow-12의 광촉매 분해반응 (Photocatalytic Destruction of a Mordant Yellow-12 Using Rutile-$TiO_2$)

  • $TiO_2$ 촉매 하에 염료 Mordant Yellow-12를 광촉매 분해하였다. 이때 사용한 광원은 각각 15-W, 21-W와 26-W 형광 램프를 이용하였다. 분해 정도는 자외선-가시광선 분광기와 pH 메타를 이용하였다. 실험 결과 반응 1시간 후에 각 광원에 따라 각각 17%, 24%, 34% 이상의 분해를 보였고 완전히 분해되는데는 각각 3, 4, 5시간 걸렸다. pH의 변화는 흡광도의 변화와 같이 급격한 결과를 나타내지 않았다. 분해 반응 속도는 15-W 보다 26-W에서 2배의 빠를 분해 반응속도를 보였다.

Use of DNA-Specific Anthraquinone Dyes to Directly Reveal Cytoplasmic and Nuclear Boundaries in Live and Fixed Cells

  • Image-based, high-content screening assays demand solutions for image segmentation and cellular compartment encoding to track critical events - for example those reported by GFP fusions within mitosis, signalling pathways and protein translocations. To meet this need, a series of nuclear/cytoplasmic discriminating probes have been developed: DRAQ5$^{TM}$ and CyTRAK Orange$^{TM}$. These are spectrally compatible with GFP reporters offering new solutions in imaging and cytometry. At their most fundamental they provide a convenient fluorescent emission signature which is spectrally separated from the commonly used reporter proteins (e.g. eGFP, YFP, mRFP) and fluorescent tags such as Alexafluor 488, fluorescein and Cy2. Additionally, they do not excite in the UV and thus avoid the complications of compound UV-autofluorescence in drug discovery whilst limiting the impact of background sample autofluorescence. They provide a convenient means of stoichiometrically labelling cell nuclei in live cells without the aid of DMSO and can equally be used for fixed cells. Further developments have permitted the simultaneous and differential labelling of both nuclear and cytoplasmic compartments in live and fixed cells to clearly render the precise location of cell boundaries which may be beneficial for quantitative expression measurements, cell-cell interactions and most recently compound in vitro toxicology testing.

Accumulation of Chlorogenic Acid as a near UV-shielding Compound in Cauliflower Grown under Enhanced UV-B Radiation

  • Since solar radiation contains wavelength essential for photosynthesis accompanying with near-UV light, UV-B effects on biological parameters and acclimation mechanisms are influenced by photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Therefore, to elucidate near-UV shielding mechanism in higher plants, we cultivated cauliflower under usual solar radiation and increased UV-B from fluorescent lamps, two- or three-fold excess over continuously estimated UV-B dose in PAR during daytime, using computer regulated systems. Increased UV-B radiation had little effect on growth expressed as fresh weigh and leaf area. Water soluble low molecular weight compounds showing absorption in near UV region were enhanced according to the irradiated UV-B dose. One of compounds in cauliflower leaves was identified as chlorogenic acid. This was found to have no near-UV photosenSitizerable activity and is known to have an ability to scavenge a wide species of active oxygen. Another pro-oxidant compound that generates superoxide anion radical under near-UV irradiation was not induced by increased UV-B during cultivation, and identified as lumazine, a degradation product from folic acid.
