Development of UV-screening Polysilsesquioxane Spheres (자외선차단 기능을 갖는 폴리실세스퀴옥산 구형 입자의 개발)

  • A silsesquioxane precursor that contains p-methoxycinnamoyl group was synthesized to produce UV absorbing spherical polysilsesquioxane (PSQ) spheres with diameters of 10nm to a few ${\mu}m$ under different conditions. A dispersion of $10wt\%$ in Vaseline of these PSQ spheres with diameters of approximately $0.6{\mu}m$ showed SPF values of 5.7 and the identical dispersion did not turn white when applied to human hands. These UV absorbing PSQ spheres showed higher boosting effect of sun protection factor (SPF) than the well known UV blocking octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC). The results indicated that the PSQ spheres with p-methoxycinnamoyl group should be useful as the ingredients in UV screening functional cosmetics without causing allergies and whitening.

  • Recently, encapsulation studies have been tarried out to protect active agents using shell materials such as polymers, lipids, inorganic materials and the other protective materials. We have prepared copolymers of methylmethacrylate (MMA) and trimethoxysilylpropylmethacrylate (TMPMA), and the copolymers as shell materials were used for encapsulating active agents. Poly(MMA-co-TMPMA) spheres were very efficient for encapsulating active agents such as vitamin derivatives (such as retinol, retinyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate) and oil soluble licorice extract etc. Mean diameters of poly(MMA-co-TMPMA) core-shell spheres containing active agents varied between about 0.1 to $10{\mu}m$ according to the experimental conditions. The loading amount of encapsulating active agents was 15 to 25% (w/w) and the loading yield was above 90%. The stability of active agents in poly(MMA-co-TMPMA) core-shell spheres prepared with an UV absorbing precursor increased by 25% compared with that of active agents in spheres prepared without an UV absorbing precursor.

Synthesis of Subphthalocyanine Compound Derivatives and Their Properties (Subphthalocyanine 화합물 유도체들의 합성 및 특성 비교)

  • Subphthalocyanine (SubPc) derivatives consisting of the different kinds and positions of substitute group were successfully synthesized using various types of the precursor as the intermediate compound. The chemical structure of precursor and product was determined by the means of $^{1}H-NMR$ and FT-IR spectrometer. Also, spectroscopic and crystalline properties were determined by means of UV-Vis spectrometer and XRD, respectively. It was found that SubPc derivatives absorbed selectively visible light ranging from 560 to 600 nm, their solubility was enhanced by introducing substitute groups, and their maximum absorbing wavelength was shifted by changing the kind and position of substitute groups.
