  • Fresnel lens has number of applications in the optical systems because of its advantages. It is nearly flat lens that has small weight. It is conventionally used in lighthouse beacons, condensing unit of overhead projector and etc. Recently, demands of small size optical systems such as display units, information storage systems, optical detecting units had increased. Conventional manufacturing process of high quality Fresnel lens is direct machining. But it is not suitable for mass production because of high cost and long cycle time. Replication process is more suitable for mass production. But the Fresnel lens has number of sharp blade shape prism. In the replication process, this blade shape causes defects that can affect optical efficiency. In this study, replication process of blade shape pattern that has maximum height of $280{\mu}m$, aspect ratio 1.4 for Fresnel lens application.

  • Polymer microneedles can be fabricated by a micromolding method, an easy and cost-effective method. However, it is not easy to achieve uniform coating with an aqueous coating solution due to hydrophobic surface of polymer microneedles. 3-Dimensional coating polymer microneedles could deliver more than twice as much dose as in-plane metal microneedles by increasing coating area and the number of microneedles per unit area. A uniform coating was not obtained by addition of coating additives in the coating solution. The satisfied coating was achieved by treatment of surface of polymer microneedle with metal deposition and UV/ozone, and UV/ozone treatment was an ultimate surface treatment method based on biological safety. Calcein coating polymer microneedles were prepared by using UV/ozone treatment and followed dip-coating, and they delivered calcein in porcine skin successfully after 15 min of insertion.

  • A simple method is presented for fabricating micro/nanoscale combined hierarchical structures using a two-step UV-assisted capillary molding technique. This lithographic method consists of two steps: (i) fabrication of partially cured polymer microstructures using a PDMS mold and (ii) subsequent nanofabrication using a high-resolution polyurethane acrylate (PUA) mold on top of the pre-formed microstructures. Using this technique, various micro/nano hierarchical structures were fabricated with minimum resolution down to 70 nm over a large area with very good reproducibility.

  • In this study, UV curing and crosslinking process was introduced for synthesis of acrylic foam tape that can be applied to the the automotive assembly process. Polymerized adhesive are laminated to baseform and varying the thickness of specimens were prepared. To measure basic mechanical properties, stainless steel was used. And in the test peel, dynamic shear and t-block were used. The acrylform adhesive show better results compare with typical adhesive and the properties depand on external factors - thick, wetting time -. To analysis functions of acrylic foam adhesive used to automobile production, evaluate the adhesive properties on the various plastic substrate. In PP and PE are categorized low surface energy materials, their properties have not been expressed. But dynamic shear tests show that some properties could be expressed by the difference break mechanism.

  • To increase the tolerance for passive fiber alignment, a single mode polymer waveguide with a large core structure is demonstrated. The large core waveguide is designed to have a mode profile comparable to that of a thermally expanded core (TEC) fiber, and it can be connected to a high-contrast waveguide through an adiabatic transition taper structure. From a waveguide with a rectangular core of 25 ${\times}$ 25 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$^2$, a single mode propagation is observed when the index contrast is as low as 0.0005. A UV-cured injection molding method is used to fabricate the thick core structure. Due to the large mode size, the insertion loss of the device is below 0.5 dB until the lateral displacement of the TEC fiber is 4.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The low insertion loss is important for reproducible passive alignment.
